Zemun, Sırbistan'ın orta kesiminde Belgrad'ı oluşturan 17 ilçeden biridir.
Tarihinin çoğunda gelişmesi Belgrad'dan bağımsız olmuş fakat 20. yüzyılın sonunda Yeni Belgrad'ın gelişmesi ile beraber Belgrad'ın bir parçası olmuştur.
Zemun Kuşatması; 1521 Belgrad Seferi sırasında, Sadrazam Piri Mehmet Paşa komutasındaki Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ile Macaristan Krallığı arasında gerçekleşmiş ve Türklerin kaleyi ele geçirmesiyle sonuçlanmıştır.
Belgrad Kuşatması devam ettiği sıralarda ablukayı sıklaştırmak için, Belgrad'a çok yakın mesafede bulunan ve Tuna nehri üzerine yer alan bu kalenin de kontrol altına alınması gerekiyordu. Bu sebepten ötürü Sadrazam Pîrî Mehmed Paşa 3 Temmuz'da Zemun'u kuşattı. Yapılan hafif taarruzlarla kalenin düşmemesi üzerine Semendire valisi Hüsrev Bey, ağır toplarıyla kuşatmaya katıldı. Ağır topların açtığı bombardıman sonucu büyük gedikler açılan surlara taarruza kalkan Yeniçeriler, 12 Temmuz'da kalenin burçlarına sancakları çekti ve kaleyi ele geçirdi.
Zemun'un düşmesiyle beraber donanma Tuna'da daha rahat hareket ediyordu ve bu sayede Belgrad Kuşatması da sıklaştı.

Zemun is one of the 17 districts that make up Belgrade in the central part of Serbia.
For most of its history, its development has been independent of Belgrade, but with the development of New Belgrade at the end of the 20th century, it became part of Belgrade.
Siege of Zemun; During the 1521 Belgrade Campaign, it took place between the Ottoman Empire under the command of Grand Vizier Piri Mehmet Pasha and the Kingdom of Hungary and resulted in the Turks taking over the castle.
During the siege of Belgrade, in order to tighten the blockade, this fortress, located on the Danube, very close to Belgrade, had to be taken under control. For this reason, Grand Vizier Piri Mehmed Pasha besieged Zemun on 3 July. When the castle did not fall with the light attacks, the governor of Smederene Hüsrev Bey joined the siege with his heavy artillery. The Janissaries, who started to attack the walls, which opened big breaches as a result of the bombardment by heavy artillery, hoisted the banners to the bastions of the castle on 12 July and captured the castle.
With the fall of Zemun, the navy was moving more easily on the Danube, and the siege of Belgrade became more frequent.
