I bought this as my third lock to pick and I've been having a lot of trouble with it. I've only picked it once but I'm glad it's actually difficult and I'm not just completely incompetent.
That's actually really good to hear. I had on on hand so instead of buying a new lock (after the clear plastic practice lock) I thought I'd give it a shot... I'm easily a week into it. I'll just go buy the MasterLock that everyone says is an easier "first lock"
Had one of these at home and i still can't get it. My pick gets stuck and I'm pretty sure pin 4 is the spool. Its a booger for sure. At least for a noob
I purchased an Ace Maximum Security Lock today thinking it would be easy to pick... NOT! Got lucky once but have a feeling it will be an uphill battle. 🤯
I am just getting into picking locks. It’s a fun way to keep my hands occupied. I’ve defeated a couple cheapo MasterLocks, and found one of these brass Aces. It is absolutely stopping all my advances with a Gandalf level of security. But, I guess it wouldn’t be fun, if it was too easy. Great Video 🇺🇸
I still can't get mine to open. I swear that it has 3 or 4 spools and is constantly resetting. I've gotten lucky a few times and gotten a false set but that's it. Nothing ever binds when I apply tension.
Just encountered this fussy lock. Owner said she put it on the shed 8 years ago and hasn't touched it. Definitely rusted. Didnt even have any play. Ill be attempting this.
I got one of these the other day. It's been a challenge. Pin 3 is low and 4 is very high. I've got a really basic pick set (basic enough to be free at a conference) with no deep hooks. It's brutal.
I have a small all brass Ace lock and its my first lock with security pins, ive accidentally gotten it once, for the life of me i cant get it open on purpose, think its the marine version. HELP someone, could use tips and pointers
With mine, everything is very tight with little play. I've only had the one, but it looks like they are all kinda built that way. More than just a little bit of tension would cause some of the pins to seize and become unmovable. The first pins to bind almost had to be bound simultaneously, but it was very obvious when they did when I felt a sudden slight rotation. With BOK tension, I inserted a normal short hook all the way beyond the 5th pin and slowly rocked it to different sloping angles until I felt the tensioner give. At that point, only pin 4 was left and it was a spool pin I believe, but I had inserted my tensioner in too far and the pick was stuck beyond the 5th pin. So I did that again but with the tensioner inserted only a bit to leave enough room to remove the pick after those pins bound. Then I could feel my way to the 4th pin. It took a bit more pressure and a very tiny reduction in tension (just a bit too much and the other pins would drop) and the pin popped in and the lock opened. If rocking with a straight edge doesn't work, you could try the same technique with differently shaped rakes at varying depths of insertion.
Lol I just moved into a place I'm renting and these are on my back gate in my back yard (currently locked) and my cellar (thankfully unlocked). I was hoping there was some easy exploit that I could use on this but it looks like I either need to start learning how to pick or tell my landlord to get a locksmith out here or at least someone with some good sized bolt cutters.
Got this lock a few years ago and just started picking this week. Got several Master locks open but this one is not budging! Is there a way to take the cylinder out? Tried racking and spp to no avail. Any suggestions other than just keep trying?
If you can't pick it now, just set it aside for a week or two. As time goes by your skills will improve and one of these weeks you'll be able to pick it. Before long, you'll laugh at thinking it was a "hard" lock. No, the cylinder does not come out.

These things are BRUTAL. His Pin combo is really an easier one. Though He is much better then me.
Same
Came here to say exactly this. Whoda thunk a store- brand lock would be so good.

Thank You for being my Inspiration…sometimes when I get stuck on a lock, I watch you picking one and it helps me to see that it can be Picked!
These are Brutal. PLEASE Pick one with decent bitting. High Lows. THANKS !!

I have many of these locks. They are a nice cheap way to practice spools and can be a challenge. I also tried shimming to no avail

Nice...glad they have spools.
Great video brother,thanks

I finally got it and have picked it at least 20 times at this point. Pretty tricky.
