Yeah. Ryan is definitely the nicest person on the cast. Geoff is a quarterback typ of guy (always leading from the front, sometimes forgetting to look back if his men actually follow) and he knows it and JP sometimes forgets to switch on the filter between brain and mouth - and I think he does it on purpose, as he stated in R&D that Bubba was basically his constant thought of "how could I screw this up". Tudagub is not much different. It's hard to judge how Neal would do as a co-player rather than a DM, because he has do be quite laid back and let the group evolve as to not interfere. Still, I would really like to see how Gen would've done in the R&D group as Wheat, Maggie and Steve seem so much more accepting of silly errants or flatout mistakes.
I already realized Gen's mistake, but let's say I was her and I hadn't, when someone comments like that, you have to know something is up. I don't think she should have gotten shit. And I highly doubt that nobody has ever looked at chat before now. *rolls eyes* Not that I'm saying they should, but she shouldn't get more shit then they do for it.
You can tell some of it isn't messing, I would say it's mostly JP ragging on her rather than Geoff to be fair. You can tell Geoff is laughing with her rather than at her. JP's and Genns character seem to have some animosity towards each other and JP seems to take his characters personality into real life when it comes to their banter out of the game.
I was expecting much worse. Honestly, I see her point, but when something is said and done, and then you read the chat and go back on your statement it does become a problem. Geoff shouldn't have said anything(he was probably looking at the chat) and Gen shouldn't have gone back on an action like she did. They were both wrong.
this .. even if JP didnt really mean it .. the way he said that was really hurtful and you could even see on Gen that she was shocked that he acutally said that .. the end of this part was over the line by JP and Geoff .. even if they mean it as a fun they still should watch what they actually say
In no way were JP's reaction justified. Not only was it a gross overreaction to streamcheating in an insignificant event, while other players in the game have streamcheated multiple times, but the fact that Gen is made fun of by Geoff constantly just makes it worse.
I'm enjoying watching most of the time, but there are some cringe-worthy moments that make it pretty hard to watch. Abigael can be mildly annoying asking about ferrets way too often, but JP and Geoff constantly picking on Gen is way more tiresome IMO. Let's be honest, they all do stupid or silly things on occasion, but Gen is the only one that gets treated in a mean way about it. Geoff and JP are absolutely hilarious at times, but damn they can be such pricks.
In All fairness, they started treating Gen this way because shes a fucking douchebag. If you look back at the earlier weeks, they indugle her up to a point. But Gen is a fucking annoying person to play with. She does not seem to have the abillity to emphatize with the others. She is constantly just trying to piss people off. Of course they have to fire back. She has spent weeks just trolling people, Making fucking horrible jokes. that only she finds funny. Reading chat. Metagaming. And Just generally forgeting its supposed to be a team game. Shes like a 13 yearold in a ?? yearolds body If it was me I would have set her aside and had a real talk with her Ages ago. To the gist of : Change your attitude or Fuck off.
Gen is comic relief... that comic relief usually comes from her making a dumb decision, having chat tell her what to do doesn't really let her fill that goal.
Kind of funny of Bregor to ask to roll with their dice, then has to /roll on the program, lol! My idea was to have them roll with his dice. Then again, maybe they have a magical ring or some shit that rigs any dice they throw. 2 tens is very suspicious, indeed. I was surprised at Jaypes at the end there, but amused and chuckling, as I think they're right to object to her chat-sourcing. Then again, it's no big deal, she isn't really going back on her action, she made another action as though she thought of something. I'm just bummed we didn't get to see her original request get filled, that would've been a hilarious moment, to be sure.
Well had I any idea who Geoff was before watching this series then perhaps your fan boy comment would be valid. JP was the only participant I knew of before. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series from the start, and although some of the RPing had been shaky I would say they've all (Gen included) found their comfort with the game and all do a great job of playing in the mindset of their characters.
For the most part his movie references are either out of character or to help draw a picture for a badass move he wants to execute in combat, it's entertainment. I wouldn't say he looks frustrated between combat, but then people read into expressions that fit or conflict w/ their disposition. The "exciting bits" could mean anything, the whole ordeal with Feng was exciting but not all combat.
i think having chat interaction with the rollplay livestream is a good thing. Taking suggustions that is mentioned in chat seems like it would be more fun. There might be more ingenuitive ideas which might make for more enjoyable viewing and it might make the audience watching, even those not chatting, seem more intertwined with the game.
perfect description :) and if I may add, im kind of like that with my best friends, constantly teasing them and stuff but in the end of the day, we know its just fun and jokes. I wish, you, RoughlyGentle1, could see them offstream. They are just having fun.
Did you read the other two comments I posted below? I'm still waiting for examples. And ok this whole show isn't the finest example of roleplaying (it is a cut above what most people will experience with their friends) but I completely disagree when you say that Gen is a better roleplayer than Geoff. Her roleplaying for the most part is a checklist of things her class would do, but she hasn't developed much of a personality gor Abi. Geoff has for Vincent.
I've since seen the Rollplay folks mention that they don't bother with the alignment system, and that's fine; it can be useful, but playing without it is just as legit. But the issues I pointed out in his character's motivation are still valid. He usually just takes the shortest route to a fight, and I think that has more to do with Geoff's impatience than a vision of a character (he often looks frustrated between combat and will say he wants to get to the "exciting" bits). ->
Geoff also doesn't involve others in conversing for the most part. Like the past few episodes. HE completely ignored Gen when she mentioned the goblins being hired by Fellstar and he didn't believe her.
Maybe they're cracking up about it now but if there are issues,it's up to the players to sort out. And if you can't resolve things, don't stay if you're not having fun. Ain't worth it. Line up change or not, this is still hands down the most hilarious entertaining show of it's genre. Good Job.
It can get frustrating but what we have to remember is that although most of us watch an episode a day, the players and the DM do this once a week nad have a shit ton of things to do in between. So although events of a previous week might be fresh in our minds still, they are liable to forget - which is probably the most common source of frustration. It isn't just the players either, Neal is a brilliant DM but he gets things wrong occasionally.
Geoff was alright and yes it should have pointed out the Gen wasn't acting on her own thoughts, but JP took it too far. there is one thing in telling a person to try and stay in their own realm of thought but lashing out like that was unprovoked and all around wrong to do. perhaps try to be less controlling itmeJP
Well, to be fair I didn't see the end of the episode which was admittedly harsh. Gen made a fair point with not feeling like having to look at the chat if she wasn't ridiculed. We don't know what happens between the shows though, I'm sure making personal borders clear helped/would help.
They're always bringing up the chat so clearly they all read it now and then and they often suddenly 'get' things by reading comments between sessions etc. Jumping Gen because she changed an action to avoid being screwed over yet again in an inconsequential manner was pretty uncalled for.
You're continually disregarding that it is essentially asking a tailor to bring you a cotton flower in a vase. It's the end of the resource chain, the producer of the end product. Nobility would, like i said, buyer's market. The group have overpaid by a lot for their drinks, and paying a lot of gold just for tiny hints. Considering the range of pets/familiars in DnD, it would be moronic for a pet trainer/seller to only stock hounds, and Neal hinted that some merchant in the south might have one.
I never said that she was the only bad player. It's not a tired excuse just because you don't agree with it. He does it because he thinks that it's for his alignment. Whether or not you agree with that is matter to consider when you play a neutral evil character on your own campaign.
And also...YES!! They FINALLY called her out on her constant chat influence. I was wondering when it was going to catch up to her. She's had her face in the chat since the first episode.
he never said it was to satisfy his bloodlust. Geoff said he though he was doing the right thing. Then everyone freaked out on him and he realized that that wasn't the best solution. That is what he said during the Q&A he never said it was to sate his bloodlust.
The price is irrelevant in a buyers market. even if he was paid a thousand gold he'd still kill the deer unless told not to, he'd just make sure the customer got the absolute best product he could find. Tanners do NOT deal in living animals. She should have found a "pet salesman", not the pelt/leather end product merchant if she wanted to not have to specify it had to be alive
It's more 'These men are bad people, they gamble, so they're rich and we *need* to kill them and take all their loot, guys!' She was just trying to play to Vincent, to get the money, which I thought was perfectly okay for her brand of thievery.
Oh the irony. As a side note, I love Geoff, I think he's fucking hilarious. It doesn't change the fact that he's not the amazing roleplayer you imagine him to be.
It's Geoff's fault that she figured it out, chat or not, since he should have kept quiet instead of tipping her. But I can also understand that Jp got a bit mad concerning the way it played out, since each of us has his idea of how they want to RP, and seeing other people "cheat" can be frustrating, regardless of the importance of the act.
RP ranking: Tudagub > Vincent (changes alignment at-will) > Bregor > Mr.Mugwoggles (even dead) > Abigael (although she has improved) That being said I still want to say that I have enjoyed every second of hating this series. I find myself, mouth agape shaking my head too often to not laugh.
Everything in this series is for fun, and it doesn't really matter as long as people are having fun. Having other people make decisions for you isn't very fun, the chat reminding people of names isn't going to really effect that. And JP didn't go off on gen, it was more of him going off on the twats in chat.
Well, the difference being that having a major influence in a town can have (and has had) significant impacts on the other characters, rp and story, whereas Gen having a ferret just means "I high-five my ferret" gets repeated literally a dozen times each episode. Nothing against her, I get that she's new and inexperienced, but she needs to take cues from the others and start learning to focus on things and actions which actually are meaningful to the rp, story or just anyone other than herself.
Also, there are plenty of times that the other players try to come up with alternatives to "I chop their head off," but Vincent (or Geoff) always seems to get impatient and pissy and shoot it down because he's sick of talking, so I don't buy that excuse.
Well lets see there is JP who is really just doing all he can to troll the others, Ryan who is just kinda there to fill a spot, Geoff the wooden plank who only seems to have emotion when he is upset out of character because things aren't going his way, and finally Gen who is flailing still not really understanding how things work. Now Gen is probably the weakest at RPing but she is also the only one that actually seems to be trying.
-->It's entertaining (and that's really all I want from this series) but I don't think it should be confused with good RP. I think what Geoff does is mostly a thin excuse to skip to the parts he likes as a player, and while we can debate over what comes out better in the end, I think Gen puts in more honest effort into playing a character.
I get the feeling the ferret would have been alive anyway, the skinner would have probably realised someone offering 100g for ferret skin would have been completely nuts. Even so, I find it a huge shame when they check the chat like this >< I would have enjoyed the suspense of having to wait and find out if Abi had fucked it up or not. JP can I suggest you put the stream on delay? It won't affect the live viewers and will stop you guys from glancing at it during crucial moments.
Honestly they should just have JP Geoff Gen and Ryan play with chat hidden, that way none of this drama stuff would even happen. Neal wouldn't really be affected since he's DM and he's way too creative on his own to need chat to help.
->Still, there are real folks who just want to fight, and if that's what Geoff's going for he's playing it pretty consistently. But consistent RP doesn't mean good RP; the latter requires a complex character, and Geoff's is fairly flat. Geoff can be funny and has moments of brilliant improv, but it usually revolves around movie references, non-sequiturs, and pseudo-Medieval talk. -->
"Annoying" is subjective. I think personally I find it more annoying and cringe-inducing when Geoff gets all upset whenever Gen does something not strictly main-quest-related. Just remember how much everyone did and still is making fun of Abby for keeping and ferret and trying to get a new ferret. What's wrong with a pet? It's ROLEPLAY! What better way to roleplay then to keep and interact with an imaginary pet? I don't see anyone diss Ryan when Bregor tried to tame a bear.
Do you have any examples where the party has offered an alternative and he has said"no, let's fight"? Most of the time it seems like the rest don't have alternatives. Admittedly in recent episodes Gen has remembered things other party members or DM hadn't and has been unfairly dismissed, but most of her decisions are based on fleeing or looting. Yes that is correctly playing as a thief, but it is all she does. Her highlights are trying to seduce the shopkeeper and I guess saving the team at camp
The fact is all of them look at chat. So singling out Gen like that was mostly just confusing. Especially the way JP looked getting pissed off like that. It made him look bad to be honest.
I agree to some extend. But there is a "person you make fun of" in most social groups. And she manvouered herself in this position by constantly making very, very awkward decisions.
While I agree alignment shouldn't define a character, the erratic changes in Vincents belief system are what I have qualms with. One moment he's giving a speech about honor and justice, the next he's killing guards or stealing their armor because it suits his needs. "enjoyed every second of hating this series" was in reference to the constant frustration, albeit hilarity of the characters. On the whole I love this show, but few could claim they weren't frustrated at some of the player choices.
I have to agree. Geoff never laughs with her and often laughs at her expense. He makes fun of her accent, her decisions, her suggestions and now he felt the need to actually step out of the game to do it. Knock it the fuck off. Yeah, e-sports drama etc, but it always pisses me off to see a bully. It may not be intended that way, but when you constantly make fun of a person that's certainly the way it comes across.
First of all I hate the whole alignment picking in D&D, I understand it helps with character backstory but it should be malleable. Second of all, he acts noble - not lawful. He is a prince and addresses people with respect and acts unlawfully if he believes it is for the greater good. Most of the time combat ensues because nobody has any good ideas and I feel it more that Geoff can't be bothered to carry the team anymore. Vincent does evil because the party does.
Also, i imagined a gambling casino go bust because of one unlucky day where everyone won. Then again, they would accuse the biggest winners of cheating and get some money back or something.
The fact that JP stated in the group Q&A that he plays his character specifically to piss off/annoy other characters/players (not just characters mind you, players too), kind of invalidates your point about how Gen plays her character. Takes two to tangle. You don't see Gen and Ryan ever arguing over anything do you? That's because Ryan is chill (like Tyler) and doesn't get his panty in a bunch when things don't go exactly as he would hope.
I won't say Gen is a strong RPer, but I think she's doing fine for her 1st time. But I don't think Geoff deserves praise; all he does is act pompous and kill things. He's supposed to be Chaotic Good, but comes across as someone who thinks they're Lawful Good but is actually Neutral Evil. If that's by choice it's great, but I really think Geoff just doesn't care about the RPing and only wants combat, so he does whatever lets him fight, regardless of what makes sense for his character.
I don't get why he's so pissed..how did JP know the guy getting beaten was a gambler? He was outraged and charged into battle the second her saw them..And how did he know what his pink boots did? When he was asking to get them identified, he said he already knew.
Geoff not sticking on the alignment that DM specifically said has nothing to do in game.. (also he is lawful evil) He stays in character even if the char is not the original one, Gen is good and interesting tho
So if you take a test and the instructor/teacher doesn't come right out and say 'No cheating!', you would automatically assume it was allowed? Hmmm, interesting.... not really
RollPlay is a game, for people to enjoy playing. That's all players! Don't neglect any of the players. It's not the Geoff show, nor the JP show, nor the Genn show. Give her the stupid ferret and move on, or tell her that there's no more ferrets. I'm not sure if Geoff is acting aggravated by Genn's mention of ferrets. But his attitude, only in regards to the ferret, reminds me of prick players. Fuck have fun, it's a fucking game. nuff said
"They roll a 10."
What should have happened
"Reroll it."
"Bregor feels scolded" -- so good.
Gen complains about JP metagaming when it inconveniences her...
Metagames when it is convenient...

How ironic that the King of metagaming (JP) gives shit to Gen for looking at chat.
I like how often-silent Bregor, now armed with the title "Bregor's Boys", takes the lead around 22:22
this .. even if JP didnt really mean it .. the way he said that was really hurtful and you could even see on Gen that she was shocked that he acutally said that .. the end of this part was over the line by JP and Geoff .. even if they mean it as a fun they still should watch what they actually say
They need to make a shirt that says "Bregor and boys" with a picture of Bregor and the boys in the background.
In no way were JP's reaction justified. Not only was it a gross overreaction to streamcheating in an insignificant event, while other players in the game have streamcheated multiple times, but the fact that Gen is made fun of by Geoff constantly just makes it worse.
I know he was frozen, but Geoff knew that once Brightblade was unfrozen he would attack and try to kill them.
I'm enjoying watching most of the time, but there are some cringe-worthy moments that make it pretty hard to watch. You forgot to mention the fact that all gen say/does is "shoot her bow" in battles.
OH the person is right in front of you? I SHOOT MY BOW!
Kind of funny of Bregor to ask to roll with their dice, then has to /roll on the program, lol! My idea was to have them roll with his dice. Then again, maybe they have a magical ring or some shit that rigs any dice they throw. 2 tens is very suspicious, indeed.

JP needs to learn a 'summon ferret' spell......... and not tell Abigael about it, until he learns an 'explode animal' spell.
"Mark heading" The act of attracting your Mark (e.g. the target you intend to rob) to the place where said robbery will take place.
this is probably one of the funniest jp rants so far
"they pull out another set of dice"
at last someone actually told her something
Well had I any idea who Geoff was before watching this series then perhaps your fan boy comment would be valid. JP was the only participant I knew of before. I'm so glad Ryan has gotten into his groove. He's making me laugh every video.
When I heard that the dwarf's name was pof I instantly started singing Pof the magic dragon instead of puff the magic dragon.

Lol at "gambling is fine. They aren't bad people." They were using loaded (or magical) dice :p

Gladiate is the greatest made up adjective of this campaign

yea but you gotta remember that Gen has low INT on her character. so being narrow minded is technically her character
How is Vincent chaotic?

The price is irrelevant in a buyers market. even if he was paid a thousand gold he'd still kill the deer unless told not to, he'd just make sure the customer got the absolute best product he could find. Tanners do NOT deal in living animals.

Did I really just watch all the way from week 3 until now in like 3-4 days? Now I have to endure waiting. I feel the pain now..
Well, fine. If you can laugh at the Jar Jar Binks of Rollplay, then more power to you.
This isn't the first time JP has gotten pissed at chat for them trying to backseat.
It's more 'These men are bad people, they gamble, so they're rich and we *need* to kill them and take all their loot, guys!' She was just trying to play to Vincent, to get the money, which I thought was perfectly okay for her brand of thievery.
salty JP lmao
Oh the irony.
As a side note, I love Geoff, I think he's fucking hilarious. It doesn't change the fact that he's not the amazing roleplayer you imagine him to be.
does "Of Mice and Men exploding style" count as a movie reference?
>not wanting to be part of the elite order of the white knights
>not wanting that princess poontang
Dost thou even fantasy plebeian?
It's Geoff's fault that she figured it out, chat or not, since he should have kept quiet instead of tipping her. Of course, the animosity over the ferret is entertaining and controversial too.

I think Jexal's luck can only be used in combat, no?

Agreed! I didn't read the comments until I felt the need to right a 'wtf JP' one. Thankfully yours is a top comment.
yea i didnt mean to include the bloodlust part in "admitted"
God, please give her a ferret so she will shut up about it.
"Magical Crossbow," "Furret," "Loot da bodies." THAT'S. FUCKING. IT.
Wait, why would a gambling establishment have a game where there is a 50-50 chance? Usual idea is that the odds are stacked against you.
The paladin was going to fight them and the thugs weren't.
I am pretty sure neal was cockblocking a magic crossbow because he views crossbows as mechanically bad in AD&D
Vincent Longborn referencing CCR. Nice!
Also, i imagined a gambling casino go bust because of one unlucky day where everyone won. Then again, they would accuse the biggest winners of cheating and get some money back or something.
Well "What could he do me for...?" made me laugh, if that counts.
If you really believe that this must be the only episode you have watched and besides she used it for something that doesn't even matter.
Hmmm, interesting.... not really
Sure they're watching the chat, but she's the only one who uses the knowledge in game.
Dammit Geoff, if you had stayed quiet she could have paid 100 gold for a dead ferret.
You forgot magical crossbows.
Neal said she was the best roll player in the group, actually...
Back seating in dungeon's and dragons isn't unlike any other game.
Time for a ferret figurine of wondrous power :)
Verily - Dark and low fantasy for the victor, sir!
Fuck have fun, it's a fucking game. nuff said
