    The same type of audiophile that would buy McIntosh components (or better) would have purchased one of these beauties back in 1935. That's just crazy cool to look at (and listen to) today!

      Checks out on internet.... But what company today would do technical work at $50 per hour? There are so many things that don't add up for me gut level looking at this at a glance.

    Definitely the Duesenberg of radios. So rare and in fantastic shape. I only hope to look that good at 86 years old!
    When you sell it at an auction let us know what it went for. Actually it would be great if the museum would actually do a
    live feed of the auction on YT.

    Love your channel. I’ve learned a lot. Was wondering if E H Scott is/was somehow related to H H Scott the famed manufacture of audio components in the 50’s and 60’s. H H Scott made wonderful tuners as well as amplifiers, preamplifiers and receivers back them. Probably in the same league as Fisher.

    • @Columba_Kos
      @Columba_Kos 2 года назад +2

      Sure there's a link... After WWII, Hermon Hosmer Scott developed a squelch circuit that was designed to suppress scratches, clicks, and pops on gramophone records, and it also was effective to suppress noise in radios, too. Those "Dynaural Range Suppressors" were first manufactured for and licensed to EH Scott, the premier radio manufacturer based out of Chicago. HH Scott set up shop in Putnam, Mass., in 1946, and yes, HH Scott produced premium audio products until it was forced into receivership in 1973. Sad to say, it was HH Scott's devotion to innovation that led to its demise. Have a look at the premium solid state receivers (the 477 is a good example) to understand how HH Scott's determination to manufacture quality fell out of step with the Japanese competition. HH Scott could not compete on price.

      @@Columba_Kos Thank you so much for this information. My parents purchased a Fisher 500B in 1961 or 1962. In the mid 70’s they were done with tubes so I happily took it. It’s in my bedroom connected to a VPI HW 19 turntable, an Oppo Blu-Ray SACD player and a pair of B&W speakers. I had the Fisher restored about 18 years ago. I continue to use it daily.

    These radios were designed by Dr. Thomas Henry Moray, a giant inventor in the same league as Filo Farnsworth and T T Brown, almost in the same league as N Tesla.
    His brief technical bio is in LOST-SCIENCE by Gerry-Vassilatos. Find the pdf online and read it twice if you want to learn what 'its' really all about. T T Brown will knock your socks off!

    Why not just test the cap for leakage? Could then be restuffed if desired. Sorry to be critical, I'm a friendly guy on the whole. Impressive set, I reckon they employed Charles Atlas to install it.

      @@wrenchhead944 We have done absentee bidding on the past: we have people who will be on the phone with live bidding. There will be an online catalog soon once more of the auction pieces are finalized. As far as shipping...we did ship a massive Magnavox Imperial a few years ago. I cant remember the name but they came and packed and shipped it. The buyer made the arrangements and one of us had to be back at the museum to meet the shipper. Anyway, if you go to the California Historical Radio Society web site info will appear as the date draws near.
