I put in 1o hour days working at a bar in Kentucky way back in the 70's......listening to whatever was blasting on the jukebox. My girlfriend picked me up one day after work and as I reached for the radio knob to turn it off....Popsickle Toes began and it was like breath of fresh air! Been a Michael Franks fan ever since!
Love this Cat, he's been doing amazing things over the years and seems like he never got his just due! Just my opinion, I see on this video from The International San Javier Jazz Festival , the late great Chuck Loeb is on guitar!! #RIPGreatness, and Eric on Sax. Great festival. Thanks for sharing, posting this @Dotz2ro viewed 03/09/2024.
I've followed him throughout the years. He has a timeless quality in his music and his voice hasn't really changed much. A unique talent, and his lyrics are the best!
Been listening to Michael Franks for 30 years. He surrounds himself with such talented musicians. I have watched this countless times. Just LOVE Till Bronner's sound and style on trumpet. What an amazing musician!!!!
tube sounds great ever!. the piano theme was short, but cool also . surprisingly, but for a half a century no one singer allows to play jazz musicians in his band so freely and much!
Michael Franks is AMAZING....Been listening for many years. And Till Bronner....WOW!!! When he begins to play the trumpet, all that preceded seems like a perfect set up to his MAGNIFICENT solo. It simply does not get any better than this!!!
I love the humility michael franks displays with his voice and gestures, just always mentally reclined. He keeps me focused in realizing there is paradisaic conditions that awaits us. very JAZZY INDEED....Gracias
well said...spockOFRock...he is one and only michal franks..i have 4 of his oldies music and no one, no one can top his style, his voice....just smooth...smooth jazz.the lady wants to know...
Imprescindible.
I'm amazed... all these years and still so beautiful. I can't tell by his voice that he's in his 60's; I'm assuming that's his age in this recording. - a favorite musician; a passion found in my youth. ...Thank you, Taro, for introducing him to me all those years ago.
Since I first discovered this song, I've been liking it so much and enjoy listening to it every time!!!!!! Michael Franks, you're so great yet so simple and humble.....................
hard to make it better than the studio version, but Michael SOJG is like a good wine and you never get bad surprises with a such bright man......:-) Amazing Till Bronner's final solo....reminds me my hero Freddie Hubbard. I need to find my lost island and in the evening watch the sunset.
The trumpet is Till Bronner is from germany, is a young new value for jazz and hes an important trumpet now in jazz, maybe like Rick Braun. Its great see that something you like its feeled by other people. Thanks
This is amazing that you two are talking about the connection between John Mayer and Michael Franks. When Room for Squares was first released, the New York Times compared these two wonderful artists to each other. As you have both said, JM and MF both have that smooth airy sound to their voices that is just amazing. I am glad to hear that JM and MF is up there on your list, because they are both very high on mine.
E a bossa nova se tornou internacional. Seu estilo e espirito foi exportado e incorporado por muitos artistas, dentre os quais este agradabilissimo Michael Franks. É um prazer ouvir boa bossa nova produzida fora do Brasil!
Michael, how could or CAN I PLAY IN YOUR JAZZ BAND playing timpani or Latin percussion drums. No professional experience. But your fav fan for soooo long!! Both same age. It’s all good Michael. Thank you for a dream come TRUE👍
Who's the trumpeter? He's hot and a fine trumpeter, too. I can't get enough of this song! It's wonderful to see Michael Franks back in fine voice. Most of his songs are insinuatingly haunting and conjure up places I want to be. One of his very best songs!
i love michael franks his music is so smooth and jazzy with a latin touch. i love the sounds of the piano and guitar. his songs tells stories, not just words that rhyme. can you pls have a video of him at the jacksonville jazz fest?
Its true, and he proudly say it constantly in his music and cds, he recorded a long called Antonios song, dedicated to Jobim, and the CD Abandoned Garden, it was a tribute for him, after Jobim sadly died in 1995. Despite of this, he has his "unique" style. Thanks
wtfomglmfaog2g that is amazing that you made that connection too. MF has been my very favorite ever since The Art of Tea came out. No one since has really caught my ear. Then Room For Squares came out and my wife heard J. Mayer on the radio. She said to me "Hey I just heard someone you might like". Ever since Mayer has been my 2nd fav. They both hit that certain button in my brain. That is so weird that you and I both see that. I don't think others make that connection. Sonny, Penn Hills, PA
This musical night out would have been worth every penny it cost. Every musician is jamming, holding nothing back. You can feel the vibe, feel how they are grooving and enjoying it as much as the audience. This is not just a gig for them you are making music, very sacred music.
This is great! please keep sending the other songs (especially Michael Franks). Please let us know if you post/upload the better quality version to somewhere else Thanks a lot
Is Jim Beard, but Michael Francks has so many influenced from Jobim, they were great friends, His song "Antonio" his dedicated to Jobim, and the CD "Abandoned Garden" was made when Jobim died in 1995. I recomended to you.

Christ Hunter is also skilled on sax & flute --two of my favorite instruments.
The trumpet player is fantastic. Belisimo! And its great to see Michael Franks again. He is most famous in the US for popsicle toes!
A great song by Michael Franks. Makes me think of sitting on beach just chillaxin' and drinking frozen cocktails.
