As long as you are wearing something to correct your vision you will be fine. For the best effect, it is important for your brain to be accustomed to optimal vision all of the time - going between nothing or glasses/contacts is less effective
Hello, i have astigmatism and contact lenses and learned that the contacts have to be in the perfect rotation place (which is marked on the lenses) or the astigmatism correction doesnt work and will affect the vision negatively. I also read that blinking can have the contacts rotate a bit so that they are not in the correct place anymore and the vision gets blurry. When i play tennis i often have the problem that my vision gets blurry in the middle of a play. And maybe after i blink it gets better or sometimes worse. I really dont know if i should use glasses because the periphal vision is also important in tennis and would probably affected. Do you have any tips on that? Because my local optician couldnt help improve my lense vision.
Thanks - yes, good questions ... you are correct about how you describe the "toric" contact lens - they are designed to correct astigmatism. If fit correctly, they really shouldn't rotate very much with the blink and your vision should not change - sounds like your contacts may be fit too loosely and you probably need a "tighter" contact lens fit. There are many brands available and a good Ophthalmologist to Optometrist should be able to make the necessary changes to give you stable clear vision. Have you tried different lenses?
@@SportsVisionbyDrLaby thank you for the reply! You seem to exactly understand my problem which im honestly amazed of. Yes i tried many different configurations in sphere (-3.75), cylinder (-0.75) and axis (180) until i found the best for me through optometrist advice and trial & error. But i havent tried changing diameter (14.5) or basis curve (8.6) yet which could definitely result in a too loose lense. Do you may have any kind of suggestion on that?
@@TJ_104 Fortunately you don't have a large astigmatism that would limit options - if you have an 8.6 base curve and the lens moves then you may want to try a steeper base curve (like an 8.5 with the Acuvue 1 day Oasys for astigmatism, or an 8.4 such as the BioTrue One day for astigmatism) - the Doctor will need to make sure the lens is not too tight and doesn't move at all since that will be a problem as well. Different brands fit differently and an 8.5 or an 8.6 from one company can fit very differently on a particular eye than the same BC from another. Also, 1-day lenses often fit differently than 2 week or monthly lenses ... bottom line, you need to work with the Doc and trial and error until it's perfect. Very very few people cant be fit at all, but occasionally it takes several trials to get it perfect ... Good luck!
Yes, I think in general soft contact lenses would be ok to wear even training, but please consult your sports vision specialist to decide in your specific case (it may depend on the amount of your prescription, your personal eye history, etc)
Hello! I have an eye condition that in turn, means I have to have a large amount of extra prism placed on my glasses for both eyes. (5 for each, 10 in total) This is absolutely necessary for me to play sports, and I cannot wear contacts, as they can only place up to 2 extra prism on each eye for a total of 4. Is it possible for me to get sports glasses that have extra prism in them? I couldn’t find anything on the internet about this specific topic. Anyway, thank you for your time kind sir!
Thanks for the question! Yes, you are correct, it is not possible to get the prism you require in contacts ... thus sports glasses with prism is the best alternative for you. I would suggest that you visit a good optical shop (not an optical chain store, but a shop owned by the optician). I have prescribed prism in sports glasses, more than the amount you require, and the athlete has been able to get that made. The frame may not have a high "wrap", but certainly can get it done - Realy all you need is a durable frame, with a safety lens+prism to have a pair of sports glasses!
@@bunnyman6321 I consulted my optometrist and he decided that I could get sports glasses temporarily, or, I could wait and see how much my eyes would improve in vision therapy and then go straight to contacts. For the time being, I have been using my regular glasses in sports and so far I have been able to work from a 5 on each eye to a 3! Next visit, (hopefully next month) I get to go down to a 2 in each eye and I can order contacts! 🎉 Thank you so much for asking!
I prefer contacts but I mostly use them for sports or If I am in the mood of wearing contacts. I use glasses mostly for work or to chill at home.
