    Same here! Wifey and I went with a bunkhouse travel trailer instead of a 5th wheel. We didn’t want to spend an extra 20k. Got our TT on a great buy!

    I totally agree with you. I'm fixing to get us a Ram 2500 6.4 hemi night version and don't think we'll ever go to a fifth wheel. Jmo. All kids are grown so it's just me and wife and friends that have there rv where we can all go rving together. You can't beat the bumper pulls and with a bed cover keep things dry in back of truck. Again JMO. Not saying we won't ever buy a fifth wheel but not anytime soon. Love your videos. Have a blessed day.

    I think you made a wise choice. I have a 2500 Bighorn 6.4L and we switched from a 32ft TT to a 33ft fifth wheel. The bed space was a big thing for me, and after almost a year, I'm still grieving the loss. Our WD hitch was set up properly so the TT towed very well, and I can't notice any improvement in towing! Our 5th wheel is much nicer than our TT. But With the features going into some of these TT, such as yours, there's (almost) no need to move to a fifth wheel. Happy Camping!

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  Год назад +2

      Agreed! As long as you are happy with your choice that's all that matters. The bed of the truck being available is just really important to me

    • @Redfour5
      @Redfour5 Год назад +1

      AND, once you have been towing a TT and have all the equipment, have done it a couple hundred times and have the right truck, why take on ALL the new logistics associated with a 5th wheel. I'm practicing my arguments for my wife by the way...

    Maybe it doesn’t seem like it, but travel trailers outsell 5th wheels.
    One thing I wanna also add is that TTs are more family friendly than 5ers in terms of price. Dollar for dollar, you can get a TT that sleeps more people than a fifth wheel.

      I don't doubt it my friend. The point of connection of the 5th Wheel is so much more in tune with the truck than a bumper pull.

  • @ShawnPatterson402

    Very interesting. I do fall into your camp. No problem at all with 5th wheels, but we have decided to stick with travel trailers, for pretty much the same reasons you have. Definitely I want to keep my box. It carries 2 bikes, 2 sets of golf clubs with push cart, extra battery, extra propane for our portable propane fire pit, a tool box, charcoal for the grill and more. Also we like the lower height for the same reason. We do a lot of state and provincial parks and height can be as much or more of an issue than length (mind you we are just under 30' so shorter than your unit). My third reason is articulation. I have seen quite a few folks end up banging their box with their 5th wheel trying to get into some off level, uphill or downhill camp sites. With the trailer the hitch it is much less of a challenge in out of level spots...if necessary the weight distribution bars can even be quickly removed and you can put it almost anywhere without damaging trailer or truck as the hitch pivots quite a bit in any direction. And as far as towing I also agree with you. if your weight distribution hitch is properly set up, the travel trailer tows great. But hey, end of the day that is why there are all sorts of RV options. Something for everyone's needs and desires. As always, safe travels.....

    I agree with everything you said. We have always towed Travel Trailers and really never even consider a 5th wheel for every reason you mentioned. We currently have a Mesa Ridge 310 BHS, very similar layout to yours, and there is nothing else we need. As far as our tow rig, we did upgrade to a SRW 3500 GMC because our hitch weight is heavy and we use a Hensley Arrow hitch to tame the big trailer and nearly eliminate 100% sway. I find I can back a TT way easier, it reacts so quickly compared to a 5th wheel, I tried backing my father in laws fifth wheel and was screaming for it turn. Plus flat floor versus steps, flat floor all day. We also added a Leer Shell to the truck and the decked storage drawers, so when we are not hooked up to the trailer, all my tools, camp chairs, tables, etc are with me so if we wanted to just go hang out for a day trip its always there. Great content. I subscribed.

    Hi, love your videos, all informative and entertaining.
    I recently traded my 2020 Ram 1500 in for a 2023 Ram 2500 Hemi. I went with the Hemi for the higher payload.
    The trade-in happened because my wife and I are looking to purchase a travel trailer, something comparable to what you own. I hear you plug the Blue Ox and how satisfied you are with it. Can you what specific Blue Ox you could recommend?
    We have our top 3 trailers we are considering:
    Grand Design Reflection 310 MKTS
    Hitch WT 970
    Rockwood Signature 8337RL
    Hitch WT
    1,315
    Keystone Outback 328RL
    Hitch WT 1,075
    Highland Ridge Open Range 322RLS
    Hitch WT 1,215
    Thank you for any recommendations and any advice you can provide. Keep pushing their informative videos.

      We have the blue ix sway pro. For the trailer we have now, we kept the same hitch and just upgraded to the 2000lb bars. It works fantastic and we are very happy with it.
      I like your list of trailers. I am obviously bias toward Grand Design because I've had such a great experience with them. I don't regret being on my second one at all. I have heard great things about the Rockwood trailer. Those would be my personal top two out of that list. Please keep us posted on what you get! Thank you for watching and your support. I'm thinking about getting the same truck you have. What is your payload? Also, do you think it could safely tow a Momentum 29G or 31G with a dry hitch weight of 1600 lbs?

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  Год назад +1

      My payload is 2501lbs. With a loaded trailer I would budget for at least a 1900 lb tongue weight. Assuming your truck's payload was the same as mine, it would leave with 600lbs for people and luggage. I believe it will be just fine safety wise as long as its within the legal weight numbers.

    Smart moves bro! I feel the same way regarding financial responsibility, tongue weight, & payload! I have the Limited in a diesel. TT are just as comfortable as a 5th wheel and most cases cost less.

    I also have Ram 2500 and I have no plan to upgrade it to one ton. However, I am looking for a bigger rig. Particularly, I am looking at Reflection 31MB (aka 324MBS). It is as heavy as yours but the tongue weight is heavier since it is a fifth wheel. It will be definitively over my payload.. but I am thinking of beefing up my truck’s rear suspension. It is still not legal.. but I think it is the best choice given my situation. Anyway, your rig looks beautiful! Good choice 👍

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  Год назад

      Thank you my friend. Please be safe out there. From a frame and axle perspective, I wouldn't encourage going over weight. Naturally, it's your call but I would never recommend to go that route
