This made me tear up. As a young woman growing up w/o a father was difficult. Parents, especially fathers tend not to see their mistakes until its too late. I'm glade Iyanla is back!!! We can't make up for lost time, but we can stop the cycle and forgive. For the sake of future generations.

It's true you cannot makeup for lost time. But as long as you are alive you should try to seek a new relationship. We are not perfect parents but we can ask for forgiveness and work on a new beginning. Thanks

I agree with that thought...It's not fair to the wife nor the kids. The father is just being manipulating and really not loving at all. a father that truly loves their children will always want to make sure that their children are happy, even if the children want to be with the mother. I also think that it would be a very selfish choice considering the wife is not an addict.

It's hard to really grasp how difficult the situation is until you've been a divorcee. Imagine having a child that you don't see very often but have a financial obligation to support.
That's crazy, these men can barely see their kids enough to properly instill their values but have to pay a considerable percentage of their income to support them. It's wack.

I agree you can't "make" anyone be a parent but I just can not fathom the thought of a man or woman to have a child and get up each and every morning, look at themselves in the mirror and not feel some sort of wrath for not being there for that seed " they" created! Whether you don't want to be a parent, you do know right from wrong and have to "know" you are wrong for doing that to "your" child!!

And I say this to all women...IF U DON"T KNOW HIM........THEN DON"T GIVE IT TO HIM and you will not experience that in your life! Lots of Love..

But you can't make someone be a parent. Some woman try their hardest but you can't force someone to do the hard work.

Very well said young man...It's said the sins of the fathers are passed on to the next generation...what they didn't say, the fathers sins can be forgiven by the new generation and I believe that. No one was born to carry out someone elses sins. They can be eliminated by simply just FORGIVING them. Amen on that!!

Children are growing up with so much pain. If men and women do not want to be parents then practice safe sex...or no sex at all. Creating a precious child only to leave the child and let them fend for themselves in this wicked world is criminal. I will never, never, understand how you can have a child a then leave. Why you don't think about that child every waking moment of your life. So many children are hurting. And they continue to hurt during adulthood.

I would like to "think" that most women would take that into consideration but let's look at it at a different angle, say the couple was married and then got a divorce and the father said...I'll be father to our kid but you have to apart of the deal and if you're not, I don't want to be a father....how is that fair to his kid?

This is so sad.....Did anyone notice, it wasn't until he started talking about what his father missed, did a tear actually dropped. This child can not be completely honest about his feelings for his dad. Help is on the way!!!

I make it a point to urge women to really get to know these men before you just have a baby with someone. Not saying that this lady did not but I know a lot of women who barely know men and have baby's by them multiple times and know that they didn't take care of the one's they had with other women. Women have to learn to say no & value themselves. Men lie look at him for who he is and not what he tells you. Having a child with someone doesn't make a man stay.
