Now he is in the World Cup squad. Overcame a lot of obstacles to make it to this point. Could not be more happy for him. Going on loan 7 times after being sidetracked at Tottenham. He decided enough is enough and made the permanent move to Celtic. He has been a mainstay in the defence and that has got him his World Cup dream come true. Now go get em, Cam!

US soccer system has to import great working class athletes from the UK because they ignore working class American kids in their own country. Get rid of Pay to play. Carter-Vickers grew up in England where pay to play doesn't exist and kids play on travel teams for nothing.

Plus they aren't really "travel teams" they're academies, if there were travel teams im sure the wouldnt be funded by our FA, also its much easier to fund academies to play in their academy league due to revenue coming in throughout the season. Hence why teams like Brentford have closed the door of their academy and focused on putting all their profit back into the first team and backroom staff facilities, instead of worrying about academy cost. My argument isn't where he was born. He grew up in a free system in England that is about producing the best players regardless of their background and family wealth. This is not the case in the US system and so many American born players of Carter-Vickers background are ignored because of the extra costs in US soccer development that don't exist in most other countries. It is the irony that the US are importing working class English kid with an American passport and he been raised in the US system he would have been too poor to getting into soccer and ignored.
