Christa. Thank you so much for your vids, they have helped me to learn so much. Last year I learned anout klondike striped blue ribbon from you and was determined to grow it, and yesterday I harvested my first and it is 17 pounds 10 ounces! I also have a moon and stars ready to pick. Tomorrow is the big day, I am going to taste it, I can't wait, and I can't wait to see if I got it at the correct ripeness. The tendril was brown so it should be good. O, and one more thing, I just found 3 more watermelons, hope they finish growing before the frost!
Man, Christa, you are definitely the watermelon queen! You should grow some good ol' fashioned jack o'lanterns next year. I did not realize there are so many varieties of watermelons out there, even yellow ones!! Thanks for the great video :) Lucas.
thanks. My husband actually grows a whole bunch of pumpkins across the street from our house. I may make a video about them soon if my husband wants to talk about them.
My way of harvesting real ripe water melon is to make sure that the Leaf is half gray or the CURLY parts of the vine connected to fruit is dried grayish totally.
Hi guys! I know that most of you have already watched this video. I had to remove the old one and upload this one to replace it. Apparently some of the words I used in the description were deemed not suitable for advertisers or monetization by an automated system so I made some edits and reuploaded. Funny thing is, my video description was squeaky clean..... so not sure what the problem was. Thanks to everyone that commented on my video previously! I really appreciate all of your support!
Christa's Garden I have a question about watermelon seeds I notice that some of your watermelon seeds look white with brown specks. I recieved a pack of seeds like that my question is are they valuable seeds to plant and produce a watermelon
@@reneebell1209 Different watermelon varieties have different colored seeds. I think most people are used to seeing the black seeded varieties at the store. Some varieties have black seeds, some brown, some red, some white, some speckled, all of them are good to grow.
tHANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO!! :) I am growing watermelons for the first time in Chicago. The Moon and Stars variety. I can't harvest them yet, but when I do, I will share my results. I hope that the weather cooperates with them. It has been an unusually cool August.
Yes this orangelo water melon is unique in flesh color and taste its from portugese since 2 seasons i am cultivating this orangelos orange color flesh water melons in saudi Arabia seeds sown in mid march harvesting mid july. 120 days we have a problum with this fruit craking may be due to heavy temperatures 40 c+ and blotchy ness tip of fruit become rotton we have saline soil this i control by providing calcium sulphate ..your sujjetions in this regards highly appreciated thanks ....
Got a couple of varieties that only take 80 days, so hopefully I'll have enough time to grow them, as I live in Western New York, which in not prime watermelon territory, and I have no experience growing them. Do you have a video on growing them?
I have a LOT of videos on growing watermelons. Try putting black landscape fabric on the ground. It keeps the soil extra warm and watermelons love that. Here is a playlist for you : ruclips.net/p/PLOq3ytujg1revBMN4u1bkWXsIAP0vz9WC
Christa's Garden I showed my wife this video today. She said an orange watermelon!? Lol 😊 We are gonna plant some orange and yellow next year now. 😉 We tried different reds this year, being our first. We had crimson, black diamond, sugar baby and icebox this year as well as some cantaloupe (I forget the strain) We struggled with some rotting melons this year and learned some lessons. 👍 I definitely want to try the moon and stars!, but I hear the orange isn't as sweet as the reds and the yellows aren't as sweet as the orange. 🍉 Have you had a yellow one, if so would you agree? Thank you for your response... made my day. 😉
No, I don't grow watermelon. But I usually eat them in summer, when it's season is on peak. I actually don't know much about varieties, but I have never seen yellow and orange watermelon. We only have red watermelon having seeds in Pakistan.
I only water them when they are first planted and during the hottest days of summer in July. Other than that we get enough rain here and I have clay soil (clay holds on to water longer than other soil types so I don't need drip irrigation.
How do you plant so many varieties of watermelons in the same area and they look like their suppose to look. They didn't get mixed up the yellows stayed yellow/orange and the reds stayed red....do I have to plant them in different places in my yard to keep them true to their variety or don't worry?
You can plant as many varieties as you want. This year's cross pollination will not have an effect on this year's fruit. Cross pollination only effects the next generation of seeds.
We get these weird types of melons here in western Australia they grow on the side of the road they get as big as a rock melon in America you call cantaloupe . These melons ive always called pig melon ive heard when western Australia was settled they brought them over here to feed camels cause they grown everwhere even in the desert plus they hold an incredible amount of water ive never had the guts to try them
I get my seeds from many different places. The hardware store, seed companies, etc. Most of the varieties in this video are from Baker Creek, rareseeds.com
I'm so disappointed I didn't get a moon and stars when I saw them in my local nursery! I'd never heard of them so I just went with the sugar baby because I knew that one. I might go back and get one! My mouth was watering throughout this whole video! They look great!
Hello christa, i am planning on buying 1 type of watermelon seeds and 1 type of melon seeds, what varieties do u suggest knowing that i am a first time watermelon gardener?
What grows best could vary depending on your growing area. I find Ali Baba to be the most reliable watermelon variety where I live. As far as other melons go....I have had really bad luck growing cantaloupes for the past few years.
Yes you can grow them in pots, I have made a couple of videos about it this year. I have 2 or 3 playlists on how to grow watermelons. I upload videos all the time. You can find the videos on my channel page.
Christa, how many days from planting to harvest for the heirloom type watermelons and do you have to use chemicals for pests or viruses. Also, seeded melons are more difficult to eat than the seedless type but they might be more disease resistant, is that true.?
Dtm varies by variety just like any seedless watermelon. The only issues I have with my watermelons as far as disease goes is they sometimes get Alternaria Leaf spot and I do occasionally use Daconil Fungicide to help control that. I have never grown a seedless watermelon so I have no idea as far as being less or more disease resistant. I don't mind seeds in my watermelons, most of the time I just swallow them. :)
i take cut cubes freeze in ice cream buckets. then bleed into drinks later with other fruit. were get seeds from burblee were i like get seed from they decided not have colored watermelon this year. some say scam or food coloring. but purple and blue watermelon looks some cut open tast it.
Hi Omar, I am not really sure. Some plants don't mind being buried deeper into the soil but others do. Since your plant is leggy, I would go ahead and plant some additional pumpkin seeds right alongside the leggy plant so you have a backup, direct seeded right into your garden. You can always thin them out later. Good luck!
The peacefulness of your farm is truly inspiring
Nice Watermelons!
I grew yellow watermelon this year but didn't know how to put the male flower to the female til I watched your videos..thank you for this.
Awesome
So juicy!! I can’t wait until my vine produces.
Because of this video this year I’m going to plant 4 watermelon plants this year
Everyone should have the experience of eating a ripe watermelon straight from the garden at least once in their life.
I Like red watermelons

I have bought them from a couple of different places. Superseeds.com and rareseeds.com.

Thanks for watching! Yeah the colors are amazing.
hi Christa, is it possible to plant watermelons with just garden soil and water? just as simple as that?
I have never seen a watermelon having orange color. Amazing
Here in Pakistan, we have red color watermelon
What is your favorite watermelon variety? Do you grow them?

Do you save your seeds? Do you get a good grow rate?
I have clay soil. How do I plant watermelon in that soil?
how do you water your watermelon plants? by drip irrigation? if so how long do you water them for, and do you use 1gph emitters?

Juice it, it will be so good with ice
