    I remember when this movie first came out in 1969. The combination of a western and prehistoric film caught our attention. I was 8 years old at the time. This movie was a hit back in El Paso, TX. This brings back great memories of that era.

    Great channel, and especially like this review. Gila Golan was a beautiful Israeli model and actress who starred in various adventure movies in the 60s..she's still alive and lives in Florida with her third husband. Also, Almeria Spain was the filming location for the Warrior Nun TV series that came out this year.

    I dont like to seee horses getting hurt either, but these are trained to fall which is better than the "running W" they used to use - a rope was tied to the horses neck and run under his belly. (I believe thats right). then the horse would take off at a gallop, hit the end of the rope and flip. They still do this in some countriess, its so cruel. Love these Andalusian horses in this movie, roping the T rex, amazing!

    Fun review! Some fun facts:
    I believe Valley was loosely based on a 1950s unused idea.
    VALLEY OF THE MIST was another Willis O'Brien project that put humanity in contact with dinosaurs . This time , a boy hunts down a giant lizard in a hidden valley . He intends to trade it for his prized bull , which has been sold by his father . Originally titled Emilio and Guloso , then El Toro Estrella ( The Star Bull ) , screenwriter William " Bill " Lasky created a new screenplay from O'Brien's treatment and gave it a new title : Valley of the Mist . Bill hoped to get his father , the legendary Jesse L. Lasky , founder of Paramount Pictures , to green - light the picture . The film was to have been shot in Mexico , in full Technicolor . However , no studio would agree to finance a movie that involved so much special effects animation after the perceived overspend on Mighty Joe Young . This was a film that Ray would undoubtedly have worked on had it gone ahead.

    This is one of my favorite movies. I also love the music. ( I recently bought the soundtrack.) I am torn between thinking they should do a remake, but NOT do a remake. IF it was done right, they could fix some of the problems. But keep the time period and overall storyline.

    Had a recording of this movie on VHS growing up. The copy I had was recorded poorly off of the old TV20 Detroit channel(now the CW), because the beginning parts before and after the credits, along with other scenes, were missing. Despite these scenes missing from my recorded copy, I didn’t know, and didn’t care, I still loved this film, and use to rewatch all the time as a little kid.

    Umm, being the only dino-expert in the chat here, a Pteranodon technically is a Pterodactyl--it's just not THE Pterodactyl (Pterodactylus)--the general public beforehand and after, however, uses this nickname mostly to reference Pteranodon, despite it being a household name among the family of short-tailed pterosaurs (Pterodactyloidea). Upon recent discoveries, it was found that certain species of Pterodactylus had crests on top of their heads, albeit relatively shorter than their later cousins--it's just something to point out and correct before any other viewers check down the comment section.

    • @TheTimeProphet
      @TheTimeProphet  3 года назад +2

      Yes I agree a Pterandon is technically a Pterodactyl. I went with the term Pteranadon because that is what the characters used in the movie. Also since this movie came out we have had a lot of new discoveries which were not known about when the movie was released. I don't claim to be a dinosaur expert, but I do love movies. Thanks

      My biggest problem, (even when I was a kid), was that the pteranodon's fingers were in the wing membrane like that of a bat. Pterodactyls' pinky finger supported the wing membrane and the other fingers were short and exposed at the middle of the wing like little claws. This drove me crazy. How could Ray make this mistake?

    • @TheMightyN
      @TheMightyN 3 года назад +2

      @@donosborne9398 I'll give you on word: Dramatics. Harryhausen looked at Paleoart for references and studied anatomy, of course he gave this Pteranodon model bat-wings on purpose, because formerly his model from One Million Years B.C. has the correct wings, from that time of knowledge. Plus they did this Rodan also, it's a little eyesore, but nothing to detrimental unlike the Pteranodons from Jurassic World.

    With the right people...and director this is one of few movies I think could be remade really well. I saw this on TV at 7 and it stuck with me my whole life. I am now 48 and search this movie because it was so unusual. Cowboys and Aliens... nah..but cowboys and dinosaurs rocks! Harry Houser created some of the best creatures. I hate C.G.I. for the most part. I have had a family of skinks( a type of lizard) under my carport and watched them closely. The funny thing is the small ones move there tails exactly like stop motion. It has that static strobe like motion of old stop motion. This movie is a classic! Enjoyed the video but you just can't get too technical about a movie. If you want to go watch Cinemasins because all movies have flaws. I still say I grew up loving these old " creature features" and they are groundbreaking.
    p.s. only an idiot would travel to the valley and not realize they had blanks. Duh....

    if your being serious, i thought the miniature extinct horse looked rat like.
    Gwangi is my favourite Harryhausen dinosaur (ALLUROSAUR is the species) and even eclipses the 1 million yrs b,c ones.
    there was in fact another cowboy/dinosaur film also a 60s film but with weak stop motion animation, - The something> of crag or hanging rock not sure of the exact title.
    i believe a T rex is about a foot taller than a full grown bull elephant which can reach 11ft in height

    • @TheTimeProphet
      @TheTimeProphet  3 года назад

      Yeh I can see why you think it looks rat like. Yeh I did know that about elephants, and yes they can be that tall, but I still didn't feel it looked right. For instance I once talked to C.Tad Devlin who produced "George of the jungle" and apparently they changed the size of their elephant 3 times because they couldn't get the size of the cgi elephant right. Of course it is easier to change the size of a cgi elephant than a stop motion one.
