I coach my daughter’s u14 team and this is definitely prevalent in kids hockey. Put a full face shield on my helmet after taking a stick to the face playing men’s league, wore it out next practice and a kid chirps me “hey dummy did you find Nemo in there yet?” Unbelievable
The different oilers uniform was a special “heritage classic” game where they paid tribute to the 1952 Edmonton Mercurys, who won gold at the 1952 Oslo Olympics representing Canada. The uniform featured brown pants and gloves.
Brad Marchand #63 on the Boston Bruins is the biggest instigator/chirpper in the league. The Edmonton Oilers gold hockey pants were a tribute to the 1952 Edmonton Mercurys, who won gold at the 1952 Oslo Olympics representing Canada.
The pants are meant to look like leather. Often times pant covers are used instead of full padded pants when they do all the designs and logos. Now players will wear padded girdles, with pant covers.
Check into the rivalry between the Canadian and American Women's Hockey Teams. They often put the men to shame. Also, definitely check into the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and U.S.S.R. It was war on ice but also between Democracy vs. Communism. One Hell of a series!
Trash yapping and chirping are part of the game at age 10, or 11 the chirps flow like water…. I’ll never forget my son at age 12 chirping this guy who’s last name was McKracken, he kept calling him Phil…. The kid finally blurted out and yelled who the hell is Phil!!! Even his own team and coaches roared with laughter… The brown/tan pants are a retro throw back done when 2 teams play in the winter outdoor classic games, it’s a throw back to the 30’s and 40’s uniforms and gear. Check out the movie Slap Shot.
@karenpower1643 nailed it. Brad Marchand #63 Boston Bruins. He's only 5"9' , which for a hockey player is small. What you were hearing was pretty clean with what really gets said on the ice. Marchand is from Hammonds Plains, NS. I'm a Maritimer and you either love him or you hate him. As of the 2021-2022 season he became the most suspended player in NHL history, in terms of individual suspensions. Chirping is a major part of hockey. Even the commentators will say "there's a lot of chirping going on down there tonight."
There's quality chirping on Shoresy/Letterkenny. I can tell you like the quick effortless flow, as do we:). I assume it's the Scottish/Irish history. Malcolm on TheThick Of It comes to mind :).
As a Canuck who was raised on the NHL- my dad swears my sister's first word was "Domi" (i.e. Tie Domi, a famous Leafs player from the 90's and who's son is currently on the Leaf's D-line), I hecking love this content/your take- it's actually super refreshing when you've had the sport and commentary on it as a soundtrack to your youth and maaaay be taking it for granted! I also live in a "hockey town" where our OHL team has bred more than just a few NHL greats! :)
The old style jerseys (brown shorts on Oilers) is the annual Winter Classic where the teams play outdoors in an old timey arena in retro inspired jerseys. Fun fact I made the goalie equipment for that game.
The gold shorts are part of the Oilers’ 2023/24 point retro uniform worn on a couple of occasion last season. All the teams wear retro uniforms from time to time.
I raised 3 hockey players & I learned to keep grandparents up a few rows just so they never heard the chirps from their sweet grandsons. My 3rd son was goalie (rotating) at 7-8 years of age & I heard him trashing the forwards on the other team. I was shocked he knew so many 4 letter words. He learned from his oldest brother who was playing AA, they made many chirps about "sisters & mothers" lol
NHL: Refs Mic'd Up are also great videos check them out. Love the vids btw hopefully you can catch some hockey next winter Olympics in Milan! Of course you might not see many NHL players so don't judge Canadas performance to hard lol.
a guy in my team when i was younger was being lectured by the ref so he grabbed snow from the surface of the ice and did a "jerking off motion" and releasing the snow all over the ref. he was promptly ejected for the game and received a 2 game suspension.
The gold shorts were probably for the "Heritage Classic Games"! It's an infrequent series, one of three brands used by the NHL to promote their yearly outdoor games- as if players weren't already gluttons for punishment. The idea started with the Edmonton Oilers in 2003, and is usually played on (obvs modified) football stadiums so as to be held completely outdoors. Because it's a kinda "special" event the teams usually roll out uni's inspired by or are direct recreations of vintage jerseys.
The “Big bad bruins” have played a rougher brand of hockey for about 50 years. Philadelphia as well. They were called the “broad street bullies”. Both those teams would shave the ice in the corners so that you couldn’t get the puck out quickly then they would hit you and take the puck from there. The rinks have only been standardized for about 25 years. But in the old days it had its charm
15yrs old - high school, Canada: My Chemistry class partner was a Shad -a MASSIVE guy who played Junior Hockey. A bruiser - he'd already lost all cartilage in his nose from hockey fights, and had reconstructive surgery to insert a cadaver's rib tip to form his nose. Shad was a volcano - went off on anything. If we got a bad mark on an assignment, Shad would intimidate the teacher (who was freaking scared) - going face-to-face with him and 'chirping' at him. heh! I will say Shad was great. I never was picked on because of Shad. He put the word out to the entire high school to not mess with me. /I tip my hat to Shad! //He's just like the guys in the video
Oldest known chirp, Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey) to a referee, ``You`re considered the second best ref in the League.... all the rest are tied for number one.``
Anyone who grows up playing serious hockey whether they’re American or European or Russian ends up having a Canadian side - when they’re drinking or hanging out with their buds or watching a game, we all sound Canadian as f*ck. For life. My dad is 70 and from North Carolina, and he still talks that way when he gets rowdy, as do I. My grandma’s family is from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and when my dad and I visit they joke about how we occasionally get possessed by the spirits of dead beer leaguers
If you can check out the video on mic'd-up refs, it's even funnier. Because these dudes are trying to get under their opponents' skins but the convos between the refs and the players are like listening to a teenage son argue with their dads about not taking out the trash. Some of it is laugh-out-loud funny.
Decades ago I was playing High School hockey...after an off-side whistle, the linesman skated into the corner and picked up a "cup" off the ice..."Anyone lose this? he yelled...Ten 17 year olds grabbing the crotch of their hockey pants with a bunch of puck bunnies watching....nobody claimed it....
I played a lot of minor hockey in my day. It is so much fun. I didn't "Trash" talk per say but the chirping is a lot of fun. It's a contest of who's better than whom. You are sort of showing off in front of everyone. There are some in the NHL who are just little instagaters ... they have a reputation , like Kane and Marchant for Boston ... they're known as "rats" . If you drop the gloves with them, they turtle as they say. But you gotta love the game :) !!!!
Definitely Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins is No. 1! All 5’8” of him! BTW, you REALLY made me miss hockey!!😢😢. I can hardly wait for October! Go Jets Go!! (Winnipeg).
I can't recommend any clips of hockey, but I can suggest a video that goes along with it ... "Me Like Hockey" by The Arrogant Worms [a wonderfully Canadian group of singers] It might well be the perfect Canadian hockey song 🐒🐵
Hockey chirps are an art form, try to find something from previous decades, anything, you won't be disappointed. Probably offended, but not disappointed.
If you think that is bad, when the playoffs roll around, each team play each other for a best of seven series, loser goes golfing after that. The result is that each team quickly know and hate each other.
I can only imagine the chirping in soccer..... a harsh word and they might fall and flail and hold their shins and scream.... and slyly look around for reactions now and then.
Everyone chirps. These are honestly pretty lame. They're only playing the family friendly shit. When I hit Midget hockey which is 16-17yr old we had it down to a science!!!
Is this chirping in the league now? This is slow and not very good. I mean that one guy had to repeat himself 3 times to come up with, or remember, the punchline. Chirping is supposed to be witty and bounce off of what was said to you, not rehearsed and poorly delivered.
Chirping is part of ANY GAME in Canada. I loved chirping other players not only is it funny but you can actually take weak minded people right out of their game. The old saying applies... Can't take a joke? F##K EM
Growing up in Canada..I can tell you from personal experience that Hockey Players are a different breed of animal 😂😂❤
The Letterkenny hockey bros are a perfect example of hockey talk and the amount of chirping they do (slightly exaggerated of course)
Give yer balls a tug!
I coach my daughter’s u14 team and this is definitely prevalent in kids hockey. Put a full face shield on my helmet after taking a stick to the face playing men’s league, wore it out next practice and a kid chirps me “hey dummy did you find Nemo in there yet?” Unbelievable
"For unrelated reasons, this practice will be an old fashioned bag skate"
aaahahahahahaha
lmao
Man kids these days got sharper more Shakespearean insults. It’s amazing. I love it.
The different oilers uniform was a special “heritage classic” game where they paid tribute to the 1952 Edmonton Mercurys, who won gold at the 1952 Oslo Olympics representing Canada. The uniform featured brown pants and gloves.
… some say the Oilers’ pants were brown again after losing to the Panthers in June.

Yes, my son played AAA hockey as a defence man. Chirping and trash talk is a strategy 😂😂😂 It was a lot worse than this!
Congratulations lol
Got to love this game. Trash talk is one of the best parts.
Check into the rivalry between the Canadian and American Women's Hockey Teams. They often put the men to shame.
Also, definitely check into the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and U.S.S.R. It was war on ice but also between Democracy vs. Communism. One Hell of a series!

"Read a book" lol brilliant

OMG!!! Kids!!!! 🤣😂 Oh and the Slap Shot movie recommendation is also great!!

Very glad to see you getting back to NHL videos
NHL Mic'd up REF's is a great video

The old style jerseys (brown shorts on Oilers) is the annual Winter Classic where the teams play outdoors in an old timey arena in retro inspired jerseys. Fun fact I made the goalie equipment for that game.
Even female players chirp with the best of them, trust me lol
We played a girl's select team when I was playing Bantam. I received three penalties for swearing. No they cannot chirp with the best of them.
The gold shorts are part of the Oilers’ 2023/24 point retro uniform worn on a couple of occasion last season. All the teams wear retro uniforms from time to time.

I played up to university hockey. I think the best chirp I ever received was in a scrum a guy said if we fought he would “pump me like a flat tire” 😂😂
Being Canadian myself….
I can attest this is what it sounds like when most Canadians fight where I’m from in the prairies 😂
NHL: Refs Mic'd Up are also great videos check them out. Love the vids btw hopefully you can catch some hockey next winter Olympics in Milan! Of course you might not see many NHL players so don't judge Canadas performance to hard lol.

It's very Canadian to insult you gently...
Not everybody plays that way though eh!?

I coach youth hockey and played myself. This is LIGHT chirping cause they know they're mic'd. It gets hilarious out there and sometimes brutal.

You don't go overboard when you trash talk. It's hockey code. Never make it too personal and talk about off ice things.
I love your reactions... I could listen to you speak all day.... :)
Chirping is the third best thing about hockey. Just behind hitting and scoring
there is no canadian politeness on the ice, lol and we fans love the fights.
There's a Letterkenny spinoff called "Shoresy". It's all about hockey. If you like trash talk, that one is for you.
Yer 10 ply bud.
Give yer balls a tug
Marchand right there is chirp king currently lol
it is such a strategy in hockey trying to get other players off their game the playoffs trash talk is the best
Oldest known chirp, Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey) to a referee, ``You`re considered the second best ref in the League.... all the rest are tied for number one.``
Violence is much more frowned upon when minors are playing.
Check out the Tragically Hip!!!!!!!
aaaaaahahahahaha you tell him Marchand, lol, good old Nova Scotian boy there ready with his fists.
The Oilers gold pants were part of a special uniform for an outdoor game
Look up Bryan Trottier chirping Brian Bellows. It’s classic NHL chirping!
Best reactions,,
Marchand is nicknamed the rat.
For good reason.......... !

lol, they all chirp all game to each other...usually between plays
I got into a tilt with Evander Kane in Winnipeg. All bark no bite.
If you can check out the video on mic'd-up refs, it's even funnier. Because these dudes are trying to get under their opponents' skins but the convos between the refs and the players are like listening to a teenage son argue with their dads about not taking out the trash. The gold shorts are a vintage throwback uniform.
More NHL hockey videos please!
The gold pants were a throw back uniform. The game was played in an outdoor stadium 😊

sp about the brown pants the oilers were wearing, it's to resemble the canvas carharts that workers wear here in canada
Definitely Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins is No. 1! All 5’8” of him!
BTW, you REALLY made me miss hockey!!😢😢. I can hardly wait for October! Go Jets Go!! (Winnipeg).
You might want to check out the all star weekend skills competitions.
The local hocky team were i live is known for chirping and fighting lol
nhl:refs mic:d up
Ever watch "Slap Shot"?
Mert you should look for "Talking to Americans", it started as a skit on the satirical comedy show "this hour has 22 minutes"
You really should watch the movie "Slap Shot"!
May I suggest a doozy?
1976, the Soviet Red Army versus the Philadelphia Flyers...
Most of of the players on the roster for the Broad Street Bullies except for a couple were Canadian..
even in house league there's chirping
TV hockey they cut out the trash talking. There was none.
Wtch Shoresy. It’s by the Letterkenny guys but with a much tighter story
I can't recommend any clips of hockey, but I can suggest a video that goes along with it ... "Me Like Hockey" by The Arrogant Worms [a wonderfully Canadian group of singers] It might well be the perfect Canadian hockey song 🐒🐵
Mert as you like the players being miked up I thinkyou would like: Best of Wes McCauley by Alexander Valvo
Surprised to see Harry Kane on the ice
Man children on skates 🫢🤭👍🏻🇨🇦🐉👩🏼⚖️
Hockey chirps are an art form, try to find something from previous decades, anything, you won't be disappointed. Probably offended, but not disappointed.
Retro pants
6:09 there are unwritten rules to this.
If you think that is bad, when the playoffs roll around, each team play each other for a best of seven series, loser goes golfing after that. The result is that each team quickly know and hate each other.
it can get much more threatining than that
letterkenny newfoundland hockey players - funny clip. letterkenny makes fun of everyone. you'll need subtitles.
I can only imagine the chirping in soccer..... a harsh word and they might fall and flail and hold their shins and scream.... and slyly look around for reactions now and then.
The Oilers suck and Kane is one of the biggest goofs in the league, alongside Kassian. Total goofs.
Most of those players are Canucks lol
I hate trash talk. So unsportsmanlike.
I had no idea there was so much of this. I can't even watch this to the end.
ibrox? Ibrox? IBROX?
check out Larry Bird top 10 nba player and the best trash talker of all time
any hockey player that's any good is Canadian homer
There are way better chirp videos out there
RUclips sucks now. Every vid has to have bad language bleeped out or they will demonetize it.
If these are the best chirps, the players are amateurs. I hear better chirps in recreational hockey.
How's your wife and my kids
Everyone chirps. These are honestly pretty lame. They're only playing the family friendly shit. When I hit Midget hockey which is 16-17yr old we had it down to a science!!!
