How to connect MPP Solar Inverter to a Laptop or USB Port

- This Video shows you how to connect any MPP Solar or similar Inverter in to a computer which does not have a COM port or RS232 port. Most of the modern computers and Laptops does not have an RS232 port, and using this method, you may connect your computer to the Inverter.

For the USB-RS232, look for an adapter which supports CTS and RTS. This is usually the issue, and these will usually be full featured RS232.
Hi Sir, I have the problem when I plugged in the usb cable, the "monitored devices" is shown nothing in Watchpower software even I have installed the driver for the USB port. may I know any suggested way to solve it? (Urgent)
First, install the latest WatchPower software following the link I have provided in my video description and see if it works. (software on product CD is usually outdated)
Second, check if your Inverter is having Mini-USB port which is available in newer models. If so, just connect a "mini USB to USB" (mobile phone USB cable) and should work without a hassle.
Otherwise, go to device manager and check if the new COM port is correctly configured without any driver error.
If non-of above resolves your issue, then most probably, USB to RS232 connector is defective. You can check the cable by connecting a known RS232 (COM) device such as mouse.

Hi sir, after I have tried the new cable rj45 to rs232, there is no sign of connection to watch power, Latest Situation: com port functions well, just only when rj45 is connected to the hybrid inverter(only rj45 port available), the watch power cant detect anything. The Com port is not displayed in watch power software. I also try other latest vision watch power software still cannot.
1.Check RJ45 to RS232 cable by connecting it to a PC which has COM port.
2.Check RS232 to USB converter by connecting it to known, working device such as COM mouse.
If above two are successful, then it should work!

U can use USB cable (old type having micro usb one end) and directly connect inverter and Laptop. There is a micro USB port in the inverter.
Yes! Newer MPP Solar Inverters are coming with mini USB port which you can use to connect to Laptop using any mini-USB to USB connector cable and use WatchPower App. However, Older inverters do not have this mini-USB port and need the above method.

There is requirement to register the software. What is the error you are getting? Did you download the latest version from theirs website?

First , test your serial cables with a working serial device such as serial mouse . If it works , then check serial port settings and let me know the outcome

We have Sunpower inverter same as MPP. When we try to make changes it shows Login password. We dont know the password just installed the software which works. How to bypass this login?
WatchPower software doesnt request login password . Admin password is "Administrator"

My problem is, i have lost access to my watchpower account (username and password) to which I've associated my box PN. If I try to create a new account and associate the same PN, I get an error that the PN is already been registered. There's no option to recover password
You can recover password if you are aware and have access to email account used to create the account

I am using AXPERT Inverter and WatchPower works well with Windows 11 on USB serial port. However a better app called SolarPower does not want to work on USB serial port.
I'm also having the same issue. WatchPower sucks, did you managed to get the SolarPower to work? Or alteast ViewPower?
