I was taught in the military to never drag the dirty brush or patch back toward the breach, but to remove both upon barrel exit. If I’m not mistaken this is still the standard practice for marksmanship.

That the army snippers did research on weapons that were roded only 1 way ( direction of bullet travel) vs weapons that were roded bi-directionallt. Yes. I was on a jr. high power rifle team. We would only clean breach to muzzle and never with a brush. Lots of rounds through those rifles. Several national champions throughout the years.

Maybe we're misunderstanding FUDD here. Erik CAN replace a barrel at any time. So, if he used brass brushes and wore out the barrels faster, it wouldn't be a big deal to him, but why waste a barrel when you can simply switch to nylon brushes and a little more elbow grease.
I'm not worried about a nylon brush damaging a barrel but depending on the rod an brush type you gotta be careful not to hit the crown when you pull it back through.
@@warrenmichael918 she can handle the 12GA brush just fine ;) lmao. i gotta stop there just in case she goes through my youtube... she'll be using the brush on me
Nylon and brass brushes are softer than steel barrels if you manage to damage rifling you deserve a trophy just worry about crown damage you'll be okay
I'd love to have a shop like that just for my gun stuff. I'm lucky to have a corner of a cluttered garage to work on my guns. Not that I'm complaining. For years I didn't have a garage. I also didn't have a wife, so I could clean my guns anywhere I wanted in my crappy apartment. Lol
I don't use brushes I use patches I've seen people really mess their barrel up. But I'm not a pro neither. Hence y I only use patches. Great work guys.
So a bronze brush which is basically copper with a little bit of tin was able to cut into a barrel and ruin it huh? You can't even compare their hardnesses between the two metals because they're not even on the same scale. Steel is on the Rockwell C scale and bronze is on the Rockwell B scale.
Eric what kind of bore guides do y’all use with the cutouts in the back?? I also saw speedy use something like them a while back and he had a piece he slid up and sealed the back off. That would be a nice touch to keep the mess down.
Lol Imagine thinking that a stainless steel barrel that you sling lead/brass projectiles through via explosion is going to be damaged by a plastic bore brush changing directions in the barrel
I have always ran the my brush out of the end and brought it back around and pushed it through the barrel a few times when cleaning my rifle barrels to preserve the rifling. I never pull back and forth because I only see negatives from doing that and no positives. My grandpa, dad and uncle (who still serves) told me how they cleaned their rifles in the military and if it's worked in the military for many years and kept many rifles clean and in service I don't see why I wouldn't follow their method.
If you really think a brush, that is made to cleaning the barrel is going to mess up the rifling, then why do you ever shoot your rifle? Its just asinine to think even a brass brush will do anything to carbon steel...
Really?? Micro grooving. Gee, I wonder what is happening when a copper jacketed bullet is tightly gripping the rifling while traveling 2 to 3 times the speed of sound because it is being propelled by extremely hot gasses caused by an explosion.
I use to clean my barrel but never just one part of the barrel. It would push a oil patch through then remove the patch and put another clean oil patch back and remove patch to replace with oil patch till I felt the barrel was had been completely protected then push a dry patch through a couple of time to take up excess. I tried clean for cleaning but I didn't like shooting out of a clean barrel. It isn't as consistent as shooting out of a barrel that has been shot through multiple times. It is almost as bad as shooting through a really hot barrel.
In another video you´ve said, that you clean after every shooting. How deep do you go then? Only the overall carbon cleaning, or do you go for the copper every time as well? 🤔🙂
Likely depends how long you want to own the rifle, cleaning as robustly as this unlikely last as long was possible if one had been gentle and cautious.
Yes. Poor barrel indeed. That nylon brush moving at 1.5 FPS is gonna totally fuck the riflings that bullets that are made of copper and a much tighter fit going 3,000 fps left alone..

That projectile ripping down the bore at Mach 3 and 3,500°F is WAY worse on your barrel than anything you could do with a nylon brush.
