  • In today's video we talk about a CDJR Dealer caught not actually filling tires with nitrogen but selling it in customer contracts in new cars. Basically committing fraud to the tune of $299 for every customer this has happened too.
The dealer add on's in most cases are a scam and not worth 25% of what they are offering

I worked in the chemical industry and if a dealership is actually filling tires with nitrogen, each tire takes about 7 cents worth of nitrogen. It's one of the least expensive gases to purchase. It's a HUGE scam.

I was an auto mechanic (NOT at a dealership) for 37 years. I worked on A/C systems. I would often use nitrogen to flush out a system that had been "open" for some time, before evacuating it. Both R12 and R134 systems. Nitrogen is CHEAP. As in DIRT CHEAP. 70% of the earth's atmosphere is nitrogen. 70%. Even if you actually did fill tires with nitrogen, it would cost almost nothing, and there is no benefit in doing so. Yes, pure nitrogen does have slightly larger molecules than pure oxygen, so a tire filled with pure nitrogen compared to 70% nitrogen and 30% oxygen (air) would take ever so slightly longer to lose pressure. But it is so slight that there is no practical benefit to it. It's a complete scam, even if they really are filling tires with pure nitrogen. When the pressure drops, do you think people are going to put more nitrogen in their tires, or just put air in them? It's hard to believe anybody would be dumb enough to fall for this, but every day I find that people are even dumber than I thought they were the day before.

Air includes 78 percent nitrogen and 21 percent oxygen. Costco provides lifetime nitrogen fill-ups for $0 when the tires are purchased at Costco. That purchase does include a cost for the apparently elusive (according to car dealers) nitrogen.

Nitrogen has a benefit, but only in race cars. It expands and contracts less than air.

When I bought my truck they were charging for Nitrogen. A while back I saw the machine needed to do the swap, which is quite large and, I assume, expensive. I have no reason to think the technology had changed much so I said "show me the nitrogen filler". They IMMEDIATELY removed the charge as a "courtesy". 😂

I had a dealer try to sell "theft protection" for $250, which was a code (not the vin) and phone number etched only into the front window. It probably cost them $20 or less to do the etching. They claimed my insurance would give me a discount, so right in front of the salesman i called my broker and confirmed right in front of him that there would be no discount. They dropped it off the bill, and when i picked up the car, it was etched anyway.

Thought nitrogen was a fraud from the first time I heard of it. You really want it find a local AC guy to hook you up. We get tanks and tanks of it to pressure check units

Even though Prestige isn't owned by Towbin any more, they still do business like Towbin. That's why they're not selling. Sales people have a name for what Sahara is doing... "Stealing the rebate". I bet there's fine print on Sahara's paperwork that says the nitrogen filled tires are "at least 70% nitrogen".

They aren't my dealership had a machine that you hook the tires too it's a nitrogen fill station I think BG made it supposedly it sucked the air out if the tires and ran it through filters and replaced the oxygen with nitrogen and if you read the manual it wad at 85% nitrogen and the rest oxygen and states allow the machine and they can advertise its nitrogen filling because the machine has a higher then 50% for replacing the oxygen in the tires so dealership don't have to buy nitrogen tanks they all have thr nitrogen filling machines that BG SOLD TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE SELLING I WAS A GTR SPECIALIST A NISSAN AND INFINITI MASTER TECH FOR 14 YEARS AND A MOPAR VIPER SPECIALIST

It wouldn't surprise me if dealers are charging and not adding the nitrogen, I took my Toyota in for a tire rotation at the dealership, and charged a premium price, as a precaution I marked each tire by the position on the vehicle LF LR RF RR in red marker on the black tires, when I got the car back the tires had not moved from their original position. Ethics have gone out the window.

Infiniti of Cool Springs here in Nashville does the same thing. They charge $299 for nitrogen but it is also bundled with Ikon for a total of $699. They put it on every vehicle. Ikon is a rip off cause the Infiniti app has the same vehicle tracking feature. Service department and sales people laugh about it all the time knowing both of them are a ripoff. As long as the tires have green valve stem caps the customers don’t question it though. Maybe they should. Who knows if the tires are really filled with nitrogen there either.

  • @jerrylundegaard2592

The cost for dealer installed nitrogen is mostly for those neat little green tire stem caps.

So what you’re saying, car dealerships basically are NOT honest and charge clueless customers for items that were never installed…amazing find, who would have thought? Thanks for validating something that has been standard operating procedures for what, 50 years?

Also, plain old air contains 78% nitrogen... so technically they are putting nitrogen in the tires, along with 21% oxygen.

  • @froglaps40
    @froglaps40 4 месяца назад +1

    So here's my thinking...
Wouldn't they really need to vacuum down the tires to remove the air in them.. even with the pressure removed in order to put 100% nitrogen in them?
So they are only adding some more to the 78.084% that is currently present in an "empty" tire.

When dealers started using nitrogen I questioned right away if they were actually using nitrogen. Also when I purchased my vehicle I told them straight out I wasn’t paying that price or anything at all. They said they couldn’t do anything about it so I got up to walk out. Well guess what, they actually could do something about taking that charge off of the price of the suv. It’s a scam!

Of course there's just regular air in the tires. It's the same air in the tires they left the factory with.

Is it nitrogen from Alien worlds? 🌎. $2.99 a tire sounds about right.😂 My tire place charges $35.00 dollars for up to 5 tires for nitrogen.
And that's for a year.. or the life of the tire if you let them maintain your tires.
Rotation and keeping them on the right pressure.
My dealership contracts anything like PDR and tint to certified contractors. Same with the nitrogen.
A local tire shop puts nitrogen in most of the dealerships tires when it's ordered.

Oh man, how greedy can you be to do the nitrogen fill scam and then go one step further by scamming the customers out of even the nitrogen. What next, charging customers a Brooklyn Bridge buying” fee?

  • @kennyharp4125

Can't believe dealerships are still pulling that stunt. No one cares about Nitrogen and its claimed added benefits of stabilization, although it's true lol. I've seen $999 for Nitrogen, not sure who will see that on their contract and think its ok, but shame on those dealerships, but the customers need to pay more attention to the contract breakdown cost per item and if they see B.S. they need to call it out for them to remove or change.
