Great singer and a lovely man. I went with my mother to see him in Blackpool. He chatted to fans after the show and took the time to talk to my mother - she was thrilled.
As a 19 year old wife of an RAF chef I sat on Frankie's knee when he did a tour of Forces Overseas Postings. We were in Libya and the year was 1967. He was a fantastic singer and a very kind and friendly man. ❤
Lovely man Frankie Abelson was at my mam and dads wedding when he was about six month sold - my parents were friends with his mam and dad in the 19 teen 20's
Frankie!!! Absolutely loved his appearances on Pebble Mill, etc. I loved Frankie and his high kicking carry on. I was about five years old, and there's this guy ...... Best of luck, Frank. Xxxxx
Buddy, give me a fraking break-I'd like to see somebody as judgmental of current music and singers like _you_ _ever_ dare to be on _The X-Factor_ ; I'll bet that you'd fail miserably. At least they tried and sang their hearts out, even if they didn't succeed.
A truly great big star and a really good man, he opened many boys clubs to teach kids boxing and give them something to do, he should have been knighted
So, my claim to fame: Frank Vaughn came to Swansea, Wales for the opening of the Swansea Boys Club, 1958. I was a baby in my mother’s arms. She tells me that Frankie Vaughn kissed my cheek, as my mother was in the crowd. Friends and neighbours instructed my mother never to wash my cheek. I came here to do a bit of research on him because I wasn’t familiar.
Now you are talking my friend. I liked this singer with all my being, he had good songs. also, when young and me hair was not so scarce, I used to be liked to him. ☺☺
Joan Cuthill Hi Jan,well,it's rained all night and most of today, but it will do the garden good ! lol..Glad you liked Frankie's song,he was a terrific entertainer, but sadly his records don't get played at all these days :-(
Great to hear this song again,I believe it came out in 1962,Frankie Vaughan had such a powerful voice and an incredible range, much better than today’s modern rubbish.
'Tower of Strength' is the pop equivalent of those '60s Charles Atlas ads. Hey! Wimp! Fed up with having sand kicked in your face? Well, we can’t promise you the secrets of muscle mystery, but we can slap your frustration on vinyl and let you howl along!
***** Do you know all these number ones I never knew were number ones .. again it's one that does not get played Mick .. Top Upload Thumbs Up as they say :)
Music Selection Yes,it's a shame that a lot of these big hits are now forgotten about,Frankie was a big star for a long time, but is mostly overlooked nowadays :-(
***** Yes .. I guess that happens to all stars over the decades and only a few remain known for . bit like classical composers from hunderds of years ago only a handful still are known
puppetladyNJ Well you seem to be the only one that's watched right to the end, thanks for that..I can confirm that no-one was injured in the making of the video.lol.
Anything but typical matey!, Frank was a huge star in the UK, later in his career he updated his act to more like Tom Jones and I was amazed, he could really dance and he was already a great singer

I AM A POWER OF STRENGTH for now!!!!!!!
Back then, songs told stories...sometimes happy sometimes sad!!!
Elvis loved that powerful voice, and he wasn't a bad judge...
Frankie at his height. Brilliant!! Would love for those X-Factor rejects to have to tackle something like this. No chance!!
well said

Thought I remembered that right, I saw him once at a Blenheim charity cricket match with my mum who liked him, a long time ago.

What a voice.
+Roland Pratt He certainly had a terrific sound,I think he had an influence on the way Tom Jones sang.

Gee I bought this about 63 6 shillings and threpence
Interesting ending to your video...
Human pyramid building can be a hazardous activity, but generally no one gets hurt....right?
puppetladyNJ Well you seem to be the only one that's watched right to the end, thanks for that..I can confirm that no-one was injured in the making of the video.lol.
Gene McDaniels had the best version of this song
Thank you !
Joseph Dodd i think so too
Give over this is the best version period.
I just listened to Gene Daniels and now I realise why I've never heard of him. Sorry, didn't like it.
I agree. Gene McDaniels' version had more soul. Believe it or not, this is the first time I heard this version. I do like it though.
Sounds like a non-possessed Bryan Ferry
Better than Tom Jones...
And Jones admits it
The typical white and washed version of a great song. RIP Gene MCDaniel's and his 100 pounds of talent.
Anything but typical matey!, Frank was a huge star in the UK, later in his career he updated his act to more like Tom Jones and I was amazed, he could really dance and he was already a great singer
@@RonWylie-gk5lc Look up Pat Boone and Bill Hailey and The Comets. All typical.
If Gene Daniels is so superior, why have I never heard of him?! His version is pants!
@ALEXANDER GORDON I agree
I thought Frankie had a fabulous voice. The power just stuns you.
Sinatra was never this good, i bet he couldn't kick his leg up as high as Frankie could.
How embarrassing !
No.
Why, good song, nice man
