what’s the spearfishing about?
there seem to be very few fish.
I was recently in Bonaire where spearfishing in illegal and the reef is teeming with life. This place looks like the moon in comparison.
Sorry to dampen anyones enthusiasm, but maybe they should consider making fishing illegal here too.
It’s pretty barren :/
This is a pretty small area of the lagoon. When we were there a couple of years ago the local guide told us that this small island is owned by Victoria’s Secret. You actually need to keep going past it for about 5 mins to get to a gorgeous coral area. We thought Moorea which is another island close by was nicer than Bora Bora. The locals on Bora Bora also live in very poor conditions in contrast to the luxurious resorts.
The water and fish are beautiful, but I have this feeling that most of the coral in this video is dead or dying. I wish I could have seen it 30 years ago

There are still many healthy reefs, the good thing is that coral can recover quickly if conditions permit it.

For a place so beautiful above the surface, the underwater world is very underwhelming.
The corals are in bad shape and lack diversity, so do the coral fishes. There are only small fish, no bigger fish around. Overfishing?
Any island in my country (Malaysia) has far superior reef life diversity.
