Did you intentionally call this water-based green sand "Petrobond"? because you didn't make a homemade Petrobond, you made a green sand. both can be used for casting but they are different.
Petrobond is an oil-based binder, although it also includes other catalysts and binders like isopropyl alcohol.
green sand is a water-based binder. Sand + clay + water + other stuff (the other stuff makes the casting process better, crushed coal [seacoal] is one such additive)
that pet store Calcium sand is likely to give you problems being that it's not silica sand but is composed of calcium carbonate.
silica sand melts at 1670°C [3038°F]
Calcium sand (Calcium carbonate) melts at 825°C [1,517°F]
Another issue with that sand is as it's heated it undergoes thermal decomposition to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. That's a whole lot of off-gassing which is going to give your castings problems.
Another option for dry sand is to go for silica blasting media which is also at your hardware store, it should be dry, unlike the play sand.
the pet store should have silica sands in the fish area.

Petrobond is oil based castingsand, not waterbased
Exactly as you say,petrobond is a different recipe altogether and is oil based as the binder. This in the video is simple water based green sand/bentonite mix.
Be careful pouring molten metal in a wet mold. Flash boiling molds can cause the molten to splatter and "explode" the mold. Moister is one of the most dangerous variables in metal casting. As this video is over 2 years old now, I expect you have learned this. For your viewers, I remember starting out this way while trying to overcome the cost of commercial sands and clays for casting. My first sands were water based and not oil based as well.
Just know that water is dangerous in the sand and must be dried out as best as you can... but then the mold falls apart more as the sand drys and cracks. The oil or Petro in sands such as petrobond will help keep the sand sticking to itself. Oil also has a tolerance to heat (depend on the oil you use) and should not flash boil causing steam pockets and venting gasses.
In case you have not fixed this yet ... try Thread Cutting Oil and finer grains of sand ... I mean really fine stuff. Bentonite clay may be a good place to start looking too ... actual clay and add some sand to it. Defiantly add oil to it. It helps, I promise

It would be worth a trip to the local thrift store to buy a blender or coffee grinder just for milling the cat litter.
I use play sand and filter it just like you because I use it in my harbor freight sand blaster. I put it in a big stainless steel bowl and into my toaster oven for 90 minutes on 250 then let cool. No moisture issues when sifting or shooting out the gun

You should buy a blender at a thrift store for the shop comes in handy.
Though kitty litter would dull any blade really quickly
@@jarodmorris611 yes but it is meant for the shop so you can sharpen it or make a new one.
that's a video I'd like to see. making new blade and/or sharpening an old one. Not saying it is impossible, I truly would like to see how others do it. I tried on one, gave up, and went and bought a new $10 one at Family Dollar.
If you can find them in a thrift shop, coffee grinders are also good options for grinding the kitty litter or oil dry down. But really it's cheaper and faster to just buy the powdered bentonite clay online. (technically you need a blend of western and southern bentonite for the best results... Tobho mott covered a little on why both in his muller series; his info was from a professional molder).
20 lbs of kitty litter is about $8.32 or $2.41/lb + grinding
25 lbs of oil dry is about $6.38 0r $3.92/lb + grinding
50 lb Bag Western Bentonite Clay Powder, is about $25.12 (online with carter waters) or $2/lb (just avoid the cosmetics versions which are the more expensive food grade)
do note that 50 lbs is orders of magnitude more than most people will need.

You would have been money, time, and safety ahead putting the play sand in the oven and drying it out. Aquarium sand is not a good use for this.
Why do people use a blender or a rock to Pulverize the catlitter? Just add water to the cat litter and it’ll turn to liquid. Next you add to the green sand, cmon newbs, get it together
