If you know or won't be able to do these on your own you should join a military to force your hand. Good discipline and life skills you won't regret having. All the pain they make you soak up will carve the man out of you
I AGREE WITH:
“Most of that list are things a father should be teaching his sons ( and frankly, even his daughters). ”
Teach ALL the children WELL!
Exactly! Wth are girls and women supposed to do? Wait for a man to save her?
My foolish selfish biological father taught me nothing I've had to learn everything on my own.
Being able to tie knots like a pro is such an underrated skill

I would say it fits in the survival category which is essential.

Idk why but I have been waiting for such a thing from last 3 years 😂😂😂
It's a waste of time coz, it's not gonna happen.

4) Advanced Land Navigation Skills!
5) All the rest in whatever order!
As a young boy I spent most of my time in boy-scouts, which taught me a variety of skills, including navigation, medical, knotting, survival and leadership. And luckily enough I had a father who taught me basic necessary skills such as how to use tools or the maintenance of vehicles, plumbing, and appliances. But what I've noticed nowadays is the general lack of these skills in not only young men but people in general. Sure the use of these skills nowadays is few and far between, as i doubt i will get lost anytime soon or need to survive in the bush for multiple days. But I am a firm believer in being prepared for any situation that may arise. As I am slowly mastering my person, my current focus is becoming a master of my body and mind, using them to their full potential. Thank you for making this video, I hope it can help some of the younger generation as it has helped me.
I actually dislike physical confrontation, but after being bullied as a kid I made sure I took some real martial art training, because every man may be called upon to defend himself or his family at any give time in life. Nothing worse then seeing a dude who doesn’t have a clue how to throw a simple punch. Fitness is a big part of that as well, but what I have found is adjusting my self-defense and fitness readiness to my body as I get older with all of my short comings these days. Sucks but it is reality! Great video.😊
@ gud2go50: if you ain't running you ain't in shape! Oohra
Don't feel bad about not knowing everything, nobody knows everything, you're ahead of the curve by admitting that you don't know everything, that is the first step to learning about something, A prepper with just 3 of these is a long stretch because most of them live in a easy modern world. I'm more than satisfied with the skills I possess.
If you want to be good at something, be comfortable sucking at it first

Exactly! Learning how to defend your homeland can never be a bad thing
That’s not necessarily true because I’ve actually met lots of people that have been in the military that can’t even change a tires and shouldn’t even be in charge of managing an ant Farm
Not gonna lie. It would be perfect to learn everything they teach you in there.
even the army has holes in its system of training

Personally, I wanna bring my kids up with such skills _while_ they go through school
That's a while off, though 😅 So for now I'm mostly focusing on building them up for myself!
some of these things depend on someone's access to resources. Not most but a few. Like expecting a man to know how to pilot various vehicles. Boats in particular. Knots, tools, self defense, communication etc are all spot on. Good vid man
Thanks!
I'm 20, learning to communicate effectively, build good relationships and my reputation. I think my generation has been very conditioned by electronics and you should really be focusing on these if you are younger.

Love this video. I might add keeping a budget to the balancing and also add cooking in there somewhere. You may have addressed those but I think they are skills that are essential but often taken for granted and not focused on.
I'm a young man (24 y/o) born into generation z (unfortunately fortunate) and going through my school years I always wanted to take a shop class. I, along with my old man, where fairly upset when we found out they no longer offered it when I was going through high school. Still wish I could have done it, now I'm slowly learning how to do it out of my own pocket. Its expensive but it is fun.
I find I stand apart from the rest of my age group, I don't have the same habits or interests, there is definitely a gap in discipline when I compare myself to the rest of them. I found a small group of dudes in my town that aline with values, interests, and skills. We all share some stuff and we have opposing skills as well but we help one another out when one of us knows something the others don't. They're some good lads and I'm happy I've met them. There is a few of us that are worth while, I haven't lost hope on us and I would urge the rest of the older generations to not loose hope either. There has always been and will always be room for improvement.
Love what you are doing!
I'm only 16. But I get what your saying. Of my friend circle I'm one of the only ones trying to act like a man not a child. I have and still need to improve on many of these skills though. Thanks.
Lucky me , I’m 66yr raised on a working ranch , worked hard early in life n learned most of the needed skill set . Others I learned working for a living . Hunting n fishing n woodcraft are a plus .
Hunting is for cowards
As a shy, introverted person with nearsighted vision, I found it immensely helpful to remove my glasses while speaking to crowds. They didn't know I was unable to see them clearly, even though I was looking right at them. Now, I am able to wear my glasses and speak to crowds because I have a lot more confidence.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome. Thank you very much. You and your family have a beautiful and blessed week.. LORD GOD Bless and stay vigilant.

You're so welcome! Share away. You seem to have your head screwed on the right way. Work hard on your those skills and you should have a very successful life!
I fell so useless having a broken leg because of a "dumb" workout. But it will heal soon and learnd to not workout to much and to extrem.

Totally true I brought the mechanic thing up to a friend the other day that spend a ton of money on getting brakes done, and I use to call my Jeep that was a stick shift the modern day anti-theft device, dads teach your sons these valuable skills like some of our fathers did for us, my wife knows more than a lot of men today and she’s a girly girl but very capable.
Growing up without a father has been a rough ride for me (passed away when I was 2) so everything’s I’ve done in life has been self taught, from my grappling skills, to learning how to use machinery, communicate properly and just everything this video talks about with the help of father figures and jobs I’ve taken up, I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be a man raised properly by a single mother and now I have a daughter of my own and im still looking for ways that I can better myself as a man so that my daughter will have a great father figure that I never had.
Way to go!!!
I 100% agree with this. I'm lacking in a few of these, but I'm defiantly working on what I can. I didn't have a father or any real male remodels growing up, so I'm a bit late to the party, but I started realizing how important this all is around the age of 20. I'm 26 now, and at the moment, working on fitness, hunting and survival, and leadership. The one I think I'm lacking in the most is technology, because I tend to actively avoid a lot of it and hate working with it, but I do know at some point I gotta start working on improving on that. I also really need to take some medical care lessons at some point here.
I really should refresh my first aid skills, work on fighting and navigation skills and leading... For the moment I'm working on mechanics, communication, working with tools and machines and survival! Keep up the work guys!
Tbh, these are things that every single person needs to know, both men and women. And it used to be that way, but society nowadays rewards highly specialized people instead of people that is self-reliable
Agreed!

Currently improving on technology and physical strength
I've been learning my whole life, I agree knowledge is the ultimate prep. One of my short comings is medical knowledge , especially emergency training. It's on my short list. I've got some good books but a lot of good that'll do me in an emergency, lol.
Oh I liked and subbed due to the high quality , realistic content before the video ended.
Well I thought I was done wrenching on vehicles but my truck said not yet. I’m currently replacing the exhaust manifolds on my F150. It’s nice to know I can still do this.
Perfectly presented. Thank you. So many skills in life we (myself) all can work on. It's so much fun improving ourselves, and, at least for me anyway I love being pushed and challenged to be better in everything.
Keeping up the physical conditioning is always the downfall for me. I am doing well on most all of the rest. I know most all if it just out of practice on a few things.
I loved the part of teaching people and sharing knowledge because knowledge increases by sharing and the opposite is true
I personally think the number one skill every man should master before any other is stoicism. 👍🏼😁
I agree 100% with you bro! The only tweak I would add, as it is now becoming personal experience for me is aging/arthritis or any number of disabilities that may stop you from being the top Alpha physically is gaining knowledge and using it to the best of your abilities to be the Alpha in the knowledge and wisdom side. Which leads into the biggest thing that all the list videos forget. The1st tool you need to learn how to use properly? Get your minds out of the gutter now. It's your brain. Not everyone imputs knowledge in the same way. And you need to work out what works for you and what doesn't and learn to sniff out BS. And if you can't learn what you need to learn from one person because it doesn't gell for you, thats perfectly OK but don't give up, whatever you want or need to learn there are so many different styles of teaching and information out there you will find one you can understand better. But if you look online you need to have ya BS senses honed my good man! And also don't neglect your teeth. Keep them maintained. Because the longer you leave it the more likely you will run into tooth issues sooner if you have to bug out or even go on a long stay off grid for fun. Ya don't want it ruined by a toothache bro. Love ya work mate, you give good vibes.
Good list- also, can you grow food, can you clean game, can you ask for help, can you identify your weaknesses..
Leading requires accepting you dont know everything and have practice or test options available
The communication skill is good, I am from a region where people speak latin with russian accent, but when I use the proper accent it becomes the most manly language in the world.
To be perfectly honest, there wasn't a skill or attribute mentioned in this entire video that I couldn't improve. To me, forward progress is what matters. I may never "master" anything but, I am always striving to improve.
Awesome video! Im in my 50s now and cant believe how many "men" I meet that dont possess even one of these skills. Its sad what our world is coming to and honestly, shame on us for letting it happen. I grew up when this stuff was taught in school, shop classes and such. Now days they're trying to teach the "man" out of the boy. As a Dad, and now a grandfather, Im doing my part the best I can to raise real MEN. Men that will make a difference.
Well said!
My son in law is the most helpless city-boy I've ever met. His skill set is setting up the remote. That's it. Well I think he can do that.
The divorce rate would decline if women chose to communicate. “Lead follow or get outta the way” taught to midshipmen at Annapolis Naval Academy. Great video Jason!👍👍😁🇺🇸
It’s not the lack of communication. It’s just that they speak a different language.
That's exactly what I was going to say! Many women ( mine included) never say what they really mean and always take what I say and get a different meaning from it. She'll say "what do you mean by that"? I'll reply "exactly what I said". Many filter everything through an emotional filter. Most men speak through a logic filter. Which means saying exactly what they mean to say.
Pure logic!!!!!👍🧠💯💯 keep sending more videos like this 💯🧠🧠

It will seem a bit dated, but if you pick up an older (pre 1970s) Boy Scout Handbook, and you look at the requirements for the first four ranks (Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class) you'll get a pretty good idea of what skills were thought necessary for man to have. Basic first aid, fitness, meal prep, money management, knowledge of the plants and animals in your area, how to use a knife, axe, and rope to make temporary shelter, tables, bridges, whatever is needed. Basic swimming and water rescue. Knowledge of how far/ fast can you walk/run/swim. Everyone doesn't need to be an ironman athlete, but being able to accurately estimate "Can I realistically get from here to there and how long will it take me?" may get you out of a bad spot and for many, will keep them from getting into one in the first place (I really though I could make it) I'd also add on, in addition to knowing how to run a powerboat (outboard and console) know how to row a boat and paddle a canoe.
My skills: First aid, following, basic construction, pc.
Shortcomings: combat experience, sailing, coms, balance, navigation, hunting, leading, advanced tech

I feel like there may be a greater push to learn these skillsets as time progresses so that they aren't lost to history.Overall this video highlights all the core skills I believe every man may need one day
Preach brother preach!!! What it all really comes down to is THE WILLINGNESS TO LEARN! We aren't born with all the skills we need in life, but as intelligent humans we have the ability to learn. Unfortunately I see on a daily basis, men that don't know how to do a damn thing about a damn thing! Yet they aren't willing to learn anything either. They just want it all done for them or to just magically happen for them. You should never ever turn down an opportunity to learn something new even if you don't think you will need it anytime soon. Because 10 years down the road it could be something that you suddenly drastically need to know. We also live in an age with the interwebs and RUclipss where there really is no excuse for not being able to learn how to do something. You could just about learn how to do brain surgery on the RUclipss nowadays! Anyways, that's just my rant on men needing to be at least willing to learn how to be real men if they aren't already a real man, then they still should be learning more on top of that. Knowledge truly is power!
Someone said one day "It's ok to be weak, it's not ok to stay weak".
Peace. The thing i lack most in is survival skills. If you put me in perfect weather and a clear sky i could navigate to safty, but if it was rainy or snowing im finished. Also i think i could do better with building and fixing. Normally I just get my father to help but the older he gets the faster I try to learn from him. One last thing. Communication im really bad at. Making eye contact is definitly not my thing. I think all these should improve through time but i dont know where to start. Any tips?

Great video. Some important skills you identified that I can aquire or improve upon include: First aid; Talking to small groups; Mechanics and Trades among others. As you say, it can be a lifetime effort to get and improve some skills. I would like to point out that some skills augment or help the application or other skills to develop. for instance, communication skills such as talking in public, can help with confidence and teaching and thereby the learning of the other skills or by motivating a team and completing DIY projects.
I personally think another skill is to read a person or read a room / situation. Your thoughts.
Absolutely! Situational awareness is a skill that everyone should master.

I didn’t master them but I’m really good with everything your mentioned since childhood specially with getting tools ready! I would go to family friends house few hours drive. I would usually get a match box & I knife or a small metal in my pocket.

All are basic need for a full grown man to survive in this world. It mentioned in the " srimad bhagavad gita " book and it's old-gold kind of for us who can read and understand it. 17:40 . Btw I don't know all the ten tools but hey, I am acquiring and bealive me it feels hard in the first but in times it gets better and you will feel a better version of yourself. Just try one by one. Good luck 🍀
That’s right. Cheers to that!
A skill I wish I understood years ago was just the basics on how money works. Such as interest on credit cards as well as car loans and especially my home loan and , investments. I was always blue collar and often passed up simple options like changes in annuity funds or 401’s offered by my union. After 30 years in the same field I have friends that started out with the the minimum contributions and at retirement saw substantial money amounts. Opportunities missed lessons learned.
Amen to that!
A good leader isn’t the person who knows what to say or is the most qualified for the task, the good leader is the one who finds that person
Truth!
9:47 I use the sun to know the time of day and the direction of east and west. Using moss to know what’s north or south. If I’m lost I find a river or road and follow it until you find a town. Usually towns are made near a water source and roads lead to places.
Knowledge is power and knowing how to use skills is a must. For all of my preps, the most important is having Jesus in my life. Knowing that the Holy Spirit will guide me through all adversities and trials is a great comfort-
Thankfully I think I almost have all of these:
- Did martial arts for over 12 years, which forced me to work with people of all ages and sizes
- Learned how to drive a manual car before taking an auto - even now my left leg still twitches thinking that I have a clutch.
- Understand multiple survival skills, just not that great at them.
- Basically raised in my grandfather’s workshop and my other grandfather’s boat.
- Have a good paying job in a position that I actually enjoy and not stuck in an office somewhere. Job role is also a semi leader one, meaning I can’t stay passive.
- While not trained, I know basic first aid and CPR.
All I need now is a happy wife, a home and kids and I can die happy.
Listening to understand is a skill most people will never get but it is valuable. Know what your bias, and be able to recognize cognitive biases.
Yes!
I don’t know why yt recommended this to me, but how about:
Learning how to play at least one instrument.
Learning empathy for other people and animals.
Learning to communicate your emotions in a healthy manner.
Or how to care for an elderly.
There are so many more soft skills to learn that are probably way more useful, than how to make a fire with sticks.
Those are all very useful skills as well. Along with financial skills and so forth. I have spoken about all of the other skills you highlighted minus playing an instrument in numerous other videos. Cheers!
You're forgetting a vital skill for all humans. The ability to cook. Don't underestimate the importance of food preparation in any situation.
Very good info. I think these skills are naturally diminishing and will further decline as we are living in a tech rich world where everything can be ordered and done on your smartphone. I like yourself am doing my best to learn older surviving skills and retain them rather than going towards the world of tictok. One skill that I would really like to learn is how to hunt an animal, slaughter, skin and store for future meals.
Thanks. Get on it!
I never boxed, karate or wrestling. One thing I had to do is fight dirty in high school and the Army. I do everything dirty, I will not fight if I am armed as Special Forces guys informed me. Why fight and die tired, take your firearm out and defuse the situation as this work in 95% of the cases.
There’s no such thing as a fair fight!
Yes I just watched your video on the 10 most needed skills , well the one that I have trouble with is technology I just can't get a handle on it I'm to old school I guess
My grandpa had all of these skills
I hope i can be half the man he was one day
Work on it now and you probably will be. My grandpa was my best friend and one of the best role models that I was raised with.
i thought you were gonna leave out the tech part and im so glaf you mentioned it
as an mma guy whos a computer engineering dropout coz i wouldve felt miserable doing that job, kudos
All fair in Love and war..
very good talk down to earth filled with common sense which I feel is greatly lacking in our present society. I had to laugh about lighting that fire. I attended a seminar at a state park and a park ranger who was teaching the class tried lighting a 3 to 4 inch log with a bic lighter. I finally had to go to my truck get my knife and show him how to baton a piece of wood down to get the fire lit.
When I was in the US Army I was asked to take a few brand new officers (we called them 90 day wonders ) Because they were fresh from 90 days of trai ing to become Leutenants . They had not mastered any of the skills to survive duri g a war or ven to lead, march or guide soldiers. I learned so many grat things when I was young by becoming a Boy Scout. I could build a shelter, forage pla ts for food, make snares and tools and weapons for self defense and hunting. Usi g a compass was one of them. I was only a Private First Class and our Drill Instructor asked who can use a compass.. I took a few nebeeLeutenants out in the forest. Told them to walk 30 paces tufn east, go 30 paces west, eve tually back to me. Well we had to get search party for some of them. They were going in circles. Some sitting down and moani g for help. If I had my way they would all ave to read the Official Boy Scout Handbook. It is a wonderful paperback with so many good topics. I still have mine and enjoy reading the good words in it. I was a scout in 1960. WOW , time has flown.
Thanks for your service! Very cool stories
