too many necessary choices
All about options 👍
Sweet idea.
Thanks!
Hi, I noticed your ground wire on the original bridge tone pot was missing, although the solder was still attached to the back. Just an oversight, or am I confused? Thanks.
I’m about to open it up again so I’ll take a look. This kit is an Emerson wiring kit originally, I just replaced the secondary tone pot within the kit with the Kingtone, trying to make as few changes as possible. Thanks for calling it out!
Is this the the SRV switch or the Classic
SRV
Thx very much, I’m very undecided bcuz of not hearing it and testing it live,
Is the SRV switch more dramatic/more noticeable in its effects than the Classic?
I want to get the more noticeable one
I’ve only played the SRV. In terms of being noticeable, there’s kind of two parts to that…
How much your tone does your tone darken, and thicken when you turn the knob to all the different presets?
and then there is how bright and glassy your tone gets when you turn your volume knob down because of the variable treble bleed in the kingtone unit?
I think the effect is definitely noticeable. It’s a relatively cheap investment to check it out, I wouldn’t hesitate.
That’s a Nash s-63? It sounds amazing. How does it play?
I maintain that the best guitar you can buy for 2000 bucks is a Nash. I absolutely love them, fender custom shop tone and playability, wiring and components for much less. Just make sure you get light or extra light relic. Not a fan of the heavy relic ones.
Good stuff. The same SRV Kingtone Switch is now in my 1991 Fender AVRI Strat, with Van Zant “Blues” pickups,. It slays. Jesse @ Kingtone is brilliant, and he makes the coolest shit.
Absolutely agree. So glad you’re enjoying it! Be sure to subscribe here if you dig the playing/tones, and also follow on instagram.com/edgeofbreakup
Do you wire up your other tone pot as a master tone?
Yep!
As I repeatedly said on Instagram - I love your artistic style of imaging.
Thanks so much Christopher, I really appreciate you taking the time, there’s a lot of content out there to watch and I really value that you spent your time here!!
Hey everyone thanks for checking out the installation video! Make sure to get a Kingtone Switch here and give installation a shot on your own, very liberating: www.kingtoneguitar.com/product/king-tone-switch-srv/

sorry these switches have a bad hum to my amps
I doubt it’s the switch, I’d see a tech. Good luck.
check your grounds all single coils cause 60 cycle hum or play positions 2 and 4
I wonder how it would sound in my Firebird...
For Gibson style “two volume two tone” guitars, you’ll want this one: www.kingtoneguitar.com/product/king-tone-switch-duet/
@@EdgeofBreakup Thank you, appreciate it! I heard people saying that Firebirds are like "Telecasters on steroids", since those mini humbuckers are a totally different sound than Les Pauls, SG's and other Gibson guitars. I wonder if Firebirds could be somehow treated also like Fenders? Just saying...
@triskelion86 they expect 500k pots typically, but I’m sure some folks use 250k to warm up the rather bright tone. I personally love the brightness of Firebird pickups w/ 500k (especially Lollars), they are incredible. You’re probably gonna want the switch i referenced tho because it has the right wiring schematic to turn one tone knob into a global tone and the other is the kingtone switch, and work with the two volumes.
@@EdgeofBreakup thank you for taking the time to explain this to me, appreciate it bro!
@triskelion86 you bet, that’s what I’m here for!! ✊

i ahev different pods inside my guitar the volume pot is very big and has more than 10 connections how can i solder the kingswitch to this now i am not an expert ......
Sounds like you have a significantly different and complex wiring situation in your guitar. I’d recommend taking it to a guitar tech at a guitar shop you trust. Good luck!
Looks pretty simple to install. I'm curious if the standard version can be wired into a LesPaul. Two volume knobs and all that...
It can be used in Tele or any guitar with single tone and volume from what Jesse told me! You should DM and ask him!
What if the tone control remains and the kingtone switch is added?
The middle knob tone control is supposed to remain as a standard functioning global tone control for all pickups.
I like that fat mid and glassy treble, that switch is a must for Stratocaster users!
Totally!!
Thank you for the video, I'm definitely going to get one!
Absolutely, I’m so glad it was helpful for you.

Thx!!
i ve done it this way , but i cannot hear any difference ..? .....i put it in a player stratocaster !maybe somebody can help me
Hey there, if you’ve tried and followed these steps, I recommend you find a good guitar tech near you to help you remedy it. Shouldn’t cost much and it’ll be easier on your frustration. Thx!
I want to install this on super strat with 1 vol and 1 tone...since there is no wiring digram avaliable idk will it even work.any help is welcome
It should work on any tone knob, but I would advise that you hit up kingtone for their recommended installation procedure, and maybe take it to a tech unless you feel really adventurous. Always take a picture of how things started so you can go back if you get lost.
My friend you did perfectly showing the wiring schematic. Couldn't be any easier for players to do by this video! Kudos my friend. BTW, this is the first video I've seen of your channel and now I'm an enthusiastic subscriber due to the topic, and watching through, I'm impressed by your playing as well. I wanna look for the next full demonstration vid! Is it up yet? I'm a huge Jesse Davey fan. My favorite guitar player is hands down STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN. Jesse nailed the true srv tone with this switch in imo!!

Is it possible to install it in an HSS strat without losing the coilsplit option and with proper ohm resistance for hum and singles? Thanks
Hey I would recommend that you contact Kingtone, they’d be best to advise.
What do you recommend for the internal dip switches? I'm having this installed, and likely won't be there for playing with all the options. What did you decide on? Also, my Kingtone switch has a tinted cover over the dip switches. Does that come on and off? Or just remove it and throw it away?
Yeah just get rid of the dip switch cover - I took mine off and never looked back.
Honestly it’s worth exploring the treble bleed positions for yourself but since I am someone who just got into modifying their own guitar I can understand your apprehension. It’s not too difficult to take the switch out using a socket wrench after you take the secondary tone knob off, and flip through them with your volume partially down and some gain on your amp to see how the treble response is! That said I’m happy to share my findings and I really like the preset Lindy! Please have your tech read the diagram correctly, be sure which switch goes in what orientation to get the preset you desire!
@@EdgeofBreakup Thank you so much!!
Figure out what you are doing.
Not sure I follow…
So does the remaining tone knob work for all 3 pickups?
Yes, just how I like it - one global tone for all pickups.
Hello, I’m new to your channel and I really like your content! Your demo of the Benson fuzz convinced me to buy it and I’m so glad I did.
Thanks for inspiring me 🙏
I have a question, in this video I can hear some sweet guitar playing in the background while you are explaining things. Do you remember which Uni-vibe pedal you were using for this soundtrack? Sounds amazing!
I’m looking for a uni-vibe and can’t decide which one to buy, any tips? Thanks! 🤘🎸🎶
Hey there, thanks Carl! Really appreciate it!
Yeah that’s my playing from the Kingtone Vibe 1969 demo, which also featured the Blues Power and MiniFuzz GE.
You can check it out here, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Vibe 1968! ruclips.net/video/yyQyAKzdyMo/видео.html

Thank you for the tip! That one really sounds amazing! I’m afraid it is way too pricey for my budget. I recently watched your video of Jam pedals Retrovibe, how does the retrovibe compare to the king tone or maybe the gypsy vibe? Thanks!
Anyone use this on a squire?
I would prioritize upgrading the pickups and the wiring, and then look into the switch
Question: I've got a push pull switch in my 1 position tone control for adding in the neck pickup with bridge and bridge/middle. Can I leave that in place, install the Kingtone switch in the 2 position, and wire the 1 position switch to be the master tone for all three pickups? I'd have a tech do the work, but I'm just wondering if it's possible before I purchase one.
I’m not sure on that, my recommendation would be to get a tech to look at it. Good luck!
@@EdgeofBreakup Thanks, I'm going to check it out.
@@EdgeofBreakup So I decided to try it out in my other Strat first and just replaced the 1st tone control with the Kingtone as shown in this video. Man, this thing sounds great! It's actually the first treble bleed circuit I've used, can't believe it took me so long to try one out. All the other settings are awesome too, and they also seem to retain more highs to a degree when you roll off the volume. Now that I've heard how good this sounds, I'm definitely installing it in the other Strat with the 7-way wiring as well (the tech I go to said it would work just fine in that wiring setup as well).
Hell yes! So happy to hear that, welcome to the new world! The next thing you should do is to crank your amp with an attenuator and clean it up with the volume knob, and observe the glorious tone that awaits you. Do the same thing with a vintage style fuzz and univibe, preferably a kingtone mini fuzz and vibe 1968! Send me some clips on Instagram!
Did you have to rewire the remaining tone pot as per the installation instructions ?
It’s been a while now since I did this, I try to keep everything as it was originally while only changing the things that need to change. Feel free to DM me on instagram if you want help.
yes i did google;1 master tone 1master volume strat you re-wire the #1 tone and cap the #1 tone now controls all 5 pickup positions just that simple!
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Which "Dimpleswitch Configuration " did you choose?
I’m using the Lindy dipswitch configuration!
@@EdgeofBreakup Thanks. It seems Ron choose the "Lindy" Configuration also. I just installed into my Strat. Can't wait to try it out.
Rad! So glad you dug the content. Post some clips or DM me on Instagram, I’d love to hear!
instagram.com/edgeofbreakup
Thanks for the video. You mentioned a "global tone knob" in the beginning. Would that involve making the neck tone pot the global tone knob? Then I'm assuming that all 3 pickups would still be tone adjustable? Thank you
Yes the primary tone knob next to the volume knob becomes the tone control for all pickups, so no matter where you are you can darken the tone in that way - or you can use Kingtone Switch to darken in a more distinctive stylistic way, or both together, etc.
On strats, the wiring is usually neck and middle on the first tone knob and bridge on the other, which I never liked. Global tone is so much simpler for the way I play. Cheers! Thanks for watching.
@@EdgeofBreakup Thank you so much for the reply. Definitely helps. Gonna get me one. Still not sure about which one though. Have you tried the other Kingtone Switch?
Haven’t played the other, just the SRV ones.
If I wanted to keep the tone control for the bridge do I just solder it to the same lug that the other wire is soldered to on the middle tone pot? Thanks ahead of time!
That’s a great question and I don’t have the answer for you, you may want to hit up Kingtone and ask them directly!
@@EdgeofBreakup sounds good, will do!
So those settings like, Fralin, Fendery, Kingtone are all settings for the treble bleed style only?
Correct. Treble bleed style is only apparent once you turn the volume down and you are in switch position 2-6 (position 1 is bypass)
@@EdgeofBreakup They ship with "King Tone" as the default?
I’m not aware of the default, it’s been some time since I made the video. Be aware that the directions use black to indicate the direction the dipswitches should be thrown to achieve the presets, even though the dipswitches are white. Once I figured that out, it made a lot more sense.
@@EdgeofBreakup wow... I didn't know that. That's a great tip.
He might have addressed that in newer manuals - but at the time I got mine, it had that style to it
I bought one of these Kingtone switches and have tried it on 3 of my stage strats... it was muddy sounding on each strat I had put it in.
The usual strat pickups I use when I am on stage are... 56 vintage reissue (not available unless you buy the Fender custom shop strat), 59 pure vintage pups($160.00) and the 54 custom shop pups (at $269.00) I also tried this switch on a set of tex mex pups for $99.00...it was No Bueno! Another $100.00 down the drain. To date, my shelf of non useable, expensive and supposedly great guitar devices, is getting way to crowded...God, I am such a sucker when it comes to guitars, amps, pedals and well, all musical equipment. YIKES!!!
Just my 2 cents worth. Peace
Not sure what to tell you, you heard my results here. Thanks for the comment, best -
Sean
Which of the 16 settings do you like best?
I’ve got it set to the Lindy preset, which I believe was named for Lindy Fralin! Digging it there and haven’t touched it since.
I just installed the Kingtone pick ups. They sound good, but def loose high end when rolling volume back just a little. Im hoping the switch is the fix for this. they get dark pretty quick..
I think that has to do more with your volume pot… I would recommend getting an Emerson wiring kit with blender (this includes the Emerson treble bleed), and then just replacing the blender pot with the Kingtone switch. 👍 that’s what I did and I’m beyond stoked. Although at the moment I have the Lollar pickups installed (vintage blonde neck and middle and special bridge).
Judging by Jesse‘s playing and tone I would be shocked if they lacked high-end once a treble bleed is applied. There are many styles of treble bleed out there, out of all of them I still prefer the Emerson.

@@EdgeofBreakup thank you all the info. I do appreciate your time. I’m a little confused though, his website says there treble bleeds installed the switch? Would that alone not do the trick? Thanks for any info. Corbin
All treble bleeds are different in tonal nuance and how they react. The main reason I reinstalled my Emerson on top of the Kingtone switch install is because the Kingtone SRV Switch is not treble bled when in bypass position, and I want treble bleed always on. This way I get that behavior when bypassed and the Kingtone srv switch treble bleed sounds when in position 1-5 on the switch.
Make sense?
@@EdgeofBreakup totally makes sense. I thought there might be major over lap with what you got going on. I’m really just interested in a quality treble bleed. There seems to be more out there these days. I will checks out the Emerson. Not sure I would utilize the blender option. Research to do yet. Thanks again for your time. I have great tones and playing going on. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
You can also get the non blender strat kit by Emerson, both include treble bleeds. Thanks for the comment and watching!!

Thanks for video . Do you think this is still worth getting if your guitar already has a treble bleed circuit. I have a pro 2 strat . Cheers
To be honest with you, I actually keep my Emerson treble bleed installed on the volume pot, this ensures that I get that treble bleed when I have the kingtone switch bypassed, and then, when I have the kingtone switch on I get that treble bleed preset plus the tone darkening effect the switch is known for. I’d totally recommend that configuration!
@@EdgeofBreakup thanks very much now the hard choice of choosing witch switch.
@@EdgeofBreakup sorry one last question did you add a wire so the middle tone control then is a master tone control for all 3 pickups ?
Great question, it’s been a while since I made this video, you might want to ask Kingtone for guidance there. Next time I’m with that guitar and restringing, I will open it up and take a look.
