Full respect to those guys working with molten metal in sandals. I've been working with molten bronze for a couple of years, and the heat of the crucible straight from the furnace can be felt from 10 meters away. Without proper protective gear, the heat is unbearable - not to mention eventual spillage, drops or sparks (molten iron have 'lovely' sparks).
Fun fact - melting point for bronze is 913°C (1675F), while stainless steel is 1670°C (3040F). And if I remember correct, the shavings from milling reach temperatures of around 280°C (536F). Also not funny to get on bare skin (from own experience :P).
