Since the movie failed at the Box Office, the songs did not get as much exposure, hence, they were denied due recognition. Those days, besides the cinema halls, only Radio offered a limited alternate venue to the movie songs. If the movie didn't make it at the Box Office, all other aspects of that film got grossly discounted. Had "Daera" done well, then, along with MubarakJi, it would have altered the destiny of few others, such as, Nasir Khan, Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari. With Daera's success, the last pair might have embarked together on new joint ventures and, who knows, their personal history might have been different. I can't stop my tears, ShishirJi, thinking about Mubarak Begum Sahiba's sadness and disappointments. I had seen the video clips or a few of her interviews. In almost all, she naturally comes across bitter and angry, and blunt enough not to hide her frustration. Hearing her talk had deeply saddened me. This exceptionally gifted artist did not get due recognition. Her life, as you have said, was full of struggle. She deserved limelight, public adulation and, yes, financial stability. It is a pity that so many artists of yesteryear had fallen in hard times, without any pensions or other monetary resources. Paying homage to them is pinchingly bittersweet.
