The people holding that blanket were absolutely useless
quick calc estimates the force to stop a 40kg kid @ 4m = 3,500lbs of force (875 ea?). The concept of 4 people stopping that force is the useless part.
face had a zoom meeting with the ground on god
@@Huckaby Uh, of course they aren't going to stop her fall completely, but the person at the left was clearly holding it weakly and literally let go of the blanket! If that person just held tighter they could have slowed her down much more before she hit the ground.
@@hadhamalnam please explain how to properly restrain a 875 lb + load, with your hands. It's not a matter of "holding tighter" since it's just not possible.
@@Huckaby If you follow through with the downward motion during the catch, you shouldn't ever be carrying the full load at any point. The point is you have to maximize the upward force you exert throughout the 1 meter or so of leeway you have, and then she hits the ground at a much lower velocity.
Poor thing, She is screaming "my back" she probably has a slipped disc with a fall like that they didnt catch her at all!
I agree that one person is holding on with one hand and then lets go as if who cares its just a child. May as well not even had been there, incredible
its late abortion lol
Brutal fall. I really hope the girl is doing well and recovering smoothly.
She is you can look at the article
Nothing about this makes sense. Why did she have to jump to begin with? Skis on? Why could things have waited for ski patrol instead of lifties and random skiers untrained? Why is that net so small? Why was the mom so meh about the whole thing? Pretty sure that kid broke her back. I mean, I just can't wrap my head around the problem solving of this one.
Dylan I feel like I'm in another dimension reading people's comments defending this. I can't.
That person on the left close to the camera has no aim or is blind. Not only did she let go, she had the net holders move from the original catch point, and in doing so the child's head and neck appears to whip hard and hits the ground first before her body. They could have waited for Ski patrol, the child was on the foot bar and was not going anywhere.
@@RealFIRSTONE just everything about this is insane.

Total fail on the catch.
What this shows is how obtuse people are about safety. You can’t assume everything you are doing is safe because others are doing it. You can’t assume someone else is monitoring your safety and the safety of your children. That’s “your” job.
They had her jump feet first with skis on. The catchers had gloves on. Was there no one to tell people how to do this?
These strong & independent women don't need no man.
Landed perfect but stupid person did not hold the pad tightly and let it go . Why did they let that person helped. .

As a former cheerleader I'm used to catching people from heights (though not this high). You should always try to catch the person as high as you can. Reach up! It gives you more time to slow them down before they impact the ground.
The catch tarp would be ripped from their hands no matter how hard they tried to hold on. Also, if they had held on they probably would have damaged their shoulders from the sudden weight.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
You sir are STILL a cheerleader. Thank you for your service!
Thanks for your info.
Excatly! Cheer base knows, how to catch their flyers
This works in cheerleading, but the situation is a lot different here. The use of the tarp creates essentially a bigger landing zone and a smaller margin of error then if you just try to catch someone with your hands. It’s also a lot different when you’re standing on nut just uneven ground, but slippery ice and snow. The reason why this didn’t work out as well as it could’ve is the people on the chair didn’t listen to the direction to takeoff her skis. Imagine you’re trying to catch someone during a cheer routine who has who has long, sharp blades attached to their feet. The person who dropped the tarp only did so because they needed to avoid getting hit by the girl’s ski. Falling from that hike, that ski and her are coming down with over 10,000 pounds of force, which is well over the amount of force needed to decapitate someone. If she didn’t drop her end of the tarp she actually could’ve died.
omg the pain and the fear that the girl must have gone through I hope shes doing okay😖
The lady in the blue jacket yelling at the girl is not helping the panic.
Yeah it she didn’t even help, what a Karen
That's No Rescue!! Poor little girl! Praying she'll be Ok.
🤔 better stay on the bunny hill. If this ski resort had☝️a New Modern Chairlift Like Ramcharger 8 With Locking Restraint Bars.☝️
THEY HAD ONE JOB!!!!! Those clowns that tried to catch her are idiots!
Person on the front left held it far out and lost the leverage, if he wasnt an idiot it might have worked
They didn't stop the fault at all
I've seen an article and news report/video from after. The girl is fine. She apparently got on funny and was slipping off. The mom held on as long as she could.
We have to remember that a 90lb kid with a 25ft drop (the actual measuremwnts) would feel like a LOT more. The people on the ground also had to try to avoid her skis as she fell.
To all those who just watched the video but didn't read the article, "The spokesman said Wednesday the girl was doing well."
Doing well could just mean she is alive.
@@FullmoonEffects89 usually if she was doing anything worse than okay, the article would say critical condition
"An 8-year-old girl who fell from a chairlift at a Maine ski resort has been released from a hospital with minor injuries.... is now in good spirits, the Sun Journal reported."
omgg! poor girl, i hope she’s okay.
They had good intentions, but they did everything wrong. They should have left on the foot rest until ski patrol got there with the right equipment to safely lower her down. It's never going to end well dropping 25 feet into a jacket or small tarp that they had.
Absolutely stupid, how the adults handled the situation. Their incompetence resulted in a poor kid with congenital heart disease screaming “my back!” in agony.
Kinda looks & sounds like the ground broke her fall. Hope she didnt have a head injury
That poor mother. I can’t even imagine the terror and distress she is going through. God Bless them all.
No terrible mom. They were not supposed to help and should’ve waited for the real help to arrive. Even though the girl was doing just fine the mom literally took her hands and dropped her. The girl did not want to let go nor had to as she was sitting on the lift to begin with and her mom pushed her down lower to fall onto the tarp held by random civilians and then when the girl preceded to go into shock after getting what looked like some serious whip lash, the lady down there started yelling at her and telling her that she has to calm down. This is an eight year old child for crying out loud. Her mom and all the people involved in this were in the wrong, the only victim is that poor girl. I don’t understand how someone would rather drop their child on the ground and trust random people to catch her rather then pull her up herself or wait for real help. There were two other people in that lift and there’s no way I can believe that both of them were to weak to pull her back in TOGETHER. The whole thing is bs
@@coolbeans1236 so you think they dropped her on purpose?
@@deniewestover yes. The little girl didn’t want to let go so the mom let go of her
@@deniewestover I can’t completely blame the mom though because now that I’m thinking about it, it seemed like she was pear pressured by the people below her to drop her daughter thinking it would “save” her
@@coolbeans1236 if you read the article about this you will see that the girl actually slipped off the chair by accident.
I would not assume her mom is terrible because of this short video. This could have happened to anyone and we were not on their shoes to know if we would have acted worse or not.
I guess she already had enough stress experiencing this situation and I honestly cannot picture how much more stress she must have been going through after reading so many judgements about her on the web.
God the people who were there were so clueless.
That was not a catch. Period.
The person on the left closest to the camera completely let go. didn’t try to break the fall.
how could she only use a single hand to grab the net?!!! what was her other hand doing in the pocket?
@@geniusxsy terrible posture too.
@Maralk Frack makes sense😭
I agree and she moved them from the original catch point, and in doing so the child's head and neck appears to whip and hit the ground first before her body.
Luckily she’s okay, I hope they can find a better way to handle these situations. Im sure it doesn’t happen often, but they should be better prepared.
needed more ppls who were by and couldn't care less to help
Did they save her? or injure her more? What would you have done differently? Happened at Sugarloaf ski resort, 8 year old girl, 20 foot fall. "I live in main and I snowboard she is ok no broken bones and her life is not over she is ok she perfectly fine she’s back skiing again"
Hahah imagine if the lift starts moving 😂
Poor girl, little did she know she had a bunch of incompetent adults around her WHILE she was being yelled at. "Let her go?" Who said that, the mother!? The blanket wasn't even taut at that moment. And are you telling me the Mom couldn't hold her hand and brace her so they could restart the chair lift and get her much closer to the ground before she let go? The amount of mistakes here are bewildering.
From there that chairlift only gets higher and stays 2x that hight for 7 minutes. The mom was also wearing gloves making it hard to hold 100 pounds for a long time don't bash the mother
I dont understand. Why did she need to jump off the lift?

this infuriates me...so senseless!! could have been avoided. why even stop the ski lift? just hold on to her till the top. i guarantee her back is broken. I mean at lest catch her!!! only person there that had any sense was the guy that said dont drop her 🤬
If they started the lift the girl would have been 50+ feet off the group for 7+ minutes
@@sophiadowling5360 all I know is I would have held on to her till I got off the lift at the top or until someone got there...this was handled terribly
They didn’t break her fall very well. The guy on the left let go ....
I have been watching ski lift rescues for the past 30 mins and what a difference between women and men in this situation. This is exactly why MOST women should not be in charge. "She's got a congenital heart condition." Wtf does have to do with anything? The shrill voiced women is making things worse.
It's hard to watch when one of them ran away and the last one stuck his sticks in the snow so that he wouldn't lose them
We know someone who fell on that chair lift not 2 weeks ago oh my god
that sounds like L1-L5 rupturing - she ain't skiing again
plus her heart had stopped noticie the silence a bit etc😢
Hope the kid's okay. And has a great lawyer.
You accept all risks when getting yourself on the lift🤷🏼♂️
They are blaming the girl saying she didnt get in it properly....is that the exact reason why there is a chairlift attendant?!?
This stuff happens. Millions of lift rides every year are successful and safe. Dont blame the operator. People need to be responsible for themselves. That girl probably was squirming around and slid out.
Hope the people get sued their saving attempts were lame and could have had the child die due to poor knowledge

I couldn’t help but chuckle at how poorly executed this was
first, glad she's doing well and did not suffer any serious injuries. i saw this on a short tv news clip, and decided to look for the full video. not only did i easily find it, but to my surprise there are dozens of videos of kids falling off ski lifts... seems to me like skiing is too dangerous of an activity for parents to take young children.
No they just handled it terribly. It’s like any athletic activity. If people are idiots people get hurt.
she is fine that's good but her heart stopped for a moment that is bad enough.
Hold your corner bro!!! Good lord.....
They had to beg him three times to help before he moseyed over there. And did you see how he held the mat? With arms outstretched straight like a dumbass.

What she broke her while the fall
That was not a good catch they should have handled it better
When Karens think they are Ski Patrol.
This is actually the problem. Gender
Kind of mad they didnt catch her
Sad to see at ppl were going by and didn't care ti give a hand to as it would help the others who did help but couldn't hold her more up when she hit down cause more ppls means more strength to hold her safe up from the ground those who passed by and didn't care should been hit karma
Omg
the guy in the red let it go
Only if those things weren’t so high up or have a ladder near by for these kinds of situations. This was so hard to watch! I can’t believe this was even an option to help them down
Why don’t they have a safety net under the lift??? Wtf!? I’m not sure if I’ve ever been to a ski resort that doesn’t have that.
really? Ive never seen one. Where do you ski?
yeah literally never seen one and ive been skiing/boarding for 28 years

What a pansy holding that with one hand! I hope her Dad finds that guy and returns the favor!
My mom was talking about this video while I was playing mario
That little girl could of walked away if these people had the right training.
Notice not one person was on the side her head was going to go.
If they were on that side they could of slow the body and head fall slow her enough to just walk away.
I know that the rescue crew tryed their best at the moment.
I also realize this will make a great video to do better rescues like this.
Hope the little girl is doing good.
It's not a rescue crew it was random people that stopped to help..
Anyone else notice the guy filming asking the other guy to help? Wtf
I was going to make a tik tok of this but it’s not fair to the victim. All the people trying to help were very useless this is not what you do in a rescue situation.
coronavirus doing work. everyones got their blinders on and don't even have instinct to stop and help
Exactly what I was thinking 🤔 🤦🏼♂️
I was thinking the two men didnt stop but the woman did! 😂
yes, very disturbing!!
What education system told these people that they could actually hold onto that blanket with an 80lb weight falling from 20 feet? I'm guessing they picked up their rescue techniques from watching Road Runner cartoons. :-/
They don't have to be able to stop her completely before she hits the ground, just don't let go and it will at the least substantially decrease the speed of impact. But one person literally let go of it, making the entire catch useless.
There is always that one idiot that lets go
sadly her annyoing mother who made things worster poor girl
it’s not their fault they didn’t catch her. when the girl fell she could’ve landed on her feet causin the rescue net to move. her feet could’ve made her fall back. so don’t try & bash the people who helped. they tried as hard as they could.
What a horrible video. They're standing around like they're there for moral support but not committed to catching her. Might as well have just gone for help if they're not gonna do anything. Even worse is the lady with the skiis on watching and getting right in for a nosey then skiing off.
Unfortunately they all did it wrong... horrible!
yes that also made her heart stop for a moment. Horrible catch.
Ladies... FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS on holding the tarp. Too much yapping and not enough holding.
That’s a top notch ski patrol at Sugarloaf! LOL
Seeing this is hilarious, you will see that they had her drop before ski patrol got there
They shouldn't allow tiny kids on a chair lifts especially without a Man to pull her up.
The guy filming was probably 6’6” 280 could of caught her with the four other clowns helping to support him as he catches her!
He was also up. He wasn’t on the ground
all they did was force her backwards at WORSE ANGLE TO FALL
People holding the blanket wth is wrong with u...u couldn't hold the blanket stronger

@@kolinka84_ sarcasm ? The guy filming is stuck on the stopped lift. I skied this today they aren’t far from where it takes off. Unusual for an 8 year old to slip through like that. My guess is the mother was concentrating on the other sibling and the eight year old never got on properly and then it just escalated. Can happen easily enough but the attendant also has a responsibility to make sure they all get on safely and stop the lift before any height is reached. Very doubtful this happened mid journey.
