Yeah i don't mind detritus personally. I have a small tank with a betta , few cherry shrimps, 2 assassin snails and 2 kuhli loaches. It is planted. Initially i used to feed the tank twice. But i learned more and reduced it to one feed per day. And i noticed my betta getting sluggish thought maybe a disease turns oit he was lazy from being fed goodies. I again reduced the feed to once per two days. And surprisingly the betta became active again. I am not saying this for everyone but my planted tank has some pest snails that are tiny and few critters. So they can basically sustain themselves. To go further i added scarlet badis which is a teeny tiny fish with a lot of personality. Badis are known for not eating pellets and flakes. I wanted to test one out and turns out he didn't like anything that didn't move. I've kept him for two weeks now and haven't seen him eat anything I've fed him. He mostly is on hunt around the tank. And he is fairly in good health. I like how ecosystems work😂. This is long but if you've come this far then thank you🙏❤
@@WorldofWhasian As of July 16 it's been 4 months since I set it up. It's a not a great vareity of plants since aquarium hobby is rare in India it's hard to find stores. I have 3 Amazon swords and two types of bacopa stems I'm not sure. One of them is green and another one turns red at night and green in morning. It's a low tech tank. Well I've been researching for websites and shops for a year now and planning to setup a second planted tank in the near future.
Thanks to your channel I've finally made the step to set up my first aquarium 💪 I had been considering it for months, but finally made the jump. Now waiting for it to cycle before putting plants and fish in
@@WorldofWhasian Some crypts, some stems and anubias on the wood :)) As for the critters, the owner of the local fish store is keeping an awesome hellboy betta until my aquarium is cycled! He's only a few months old, so it's gonna be awesome to see him growing and becoming a full grown fish :D Gonna keep him with a few Amano shrimp
i was just thinking about getting a honey gourami since one of my betta fish passed in a 5 gallon from dropsy and was thinking about redoing the tank for a new species, awsome vid !
Thank you so much for watching! Honey Gouramis rock! I'm sorry about your loss.... losing a betta hits hard because of the amount of personality they have.
Awesome update! Glad to see things are going well. I wanted to get honey gouramis super bad so I was watching videos about them. That’s actually how I found your channel and other video with the gourami. Now I have 3 honey gouramis in my tank:D
Hello, I just discovered your channel; your content is so relaxing, eye-opening, and soothing. I am setting up a low-tech Walstad 17 gal in the next few days when the plants arrive, and I cannot wait to keep Honey Gouramis and Chilis! Your content has truly inspired me. Thank you for all your work.
@@WorldofWhasian it really is cute, I got mine from a local stillwater tank near the Brazos River. I got lucky lol it is mixed in with vast amounts of duckweed lol so I've been trying to cultivate it.
love the update! I liked learning about detritus and I will try the water bottle tip! if I have a lot a cherry shrimp do I still need snails and plecos?
Thanks for watching! What kind of tank do you have and how big? I actually don't own places at the moment. I prefer to have a small school of oto catfish!

I appreciate the comment! I love watching my rasboras go after the water fleas at the bottom! How long has your planted tank been going for?

I think you can run this aquarium without any filter.

Mind if I know, what kind of light you are using?
Thank you for watching! This light is the fluval Plant 15 - 24 inch
I always feel like I'm in the minority when I say I like duckweed lol, it looks natural and I like the light green color
Right?! I love it so much. Especially when it ends up in every part of my house. 🤣
