He had that rich creative run that we all know about - but the thing we miss is that he had the foresight to record every single thing so he could go back and expand - thank goodness!!
The first improvisation is the premisces of Raspberry. Beret! The chord changes are a part of the verse of that song. And the long improv that ends the recording it's 17 days, he plays it exactly like on Piano and a microphone record, but he must have found the chords not long before that, he's clearly playing around and searching, and has not found any melody on it yet. It's great to hear him playing and searching and enjoying it!!! Thank you! :-)
It sounds like "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" with the rhythm, but the chords and tone do sound like raspberry beret. Only thing I wish is he would've put a whole album out like this, just grooving and babbling.
I wish there was a release of all of his solo piano rehearsals! Thanks for uploading this. By the way, there is an excellent John L Nelson jazz CD, Don't Play With Love. Worth checking out!
Just to be clear: John L. Nelson doesn't play on the "Don't Play with Love" album. It was recorded long after his death. But he has written the tracks on the album.
His solo runs are so electric you'd think piano was the only instrument he played!! Piano players dedicate their whole lives to the instrument to be able to do these things. It's fascinating to realize that about this guy.
I know! This guy was a truly amazing human being, he really was like a Beethoven level genius. Really, think about his musical skills on multiple instruments and like the couple thousand songs he wrote and everything else. I'll never understand how he got so much done. All the while chasing the most beautiful women around the world.😊
Prince had so many songs & there must be a tonne load of improvisations like this of him alone on the piano syth drums guitar singing beat boxing just figuring it out
Aucuns artistes n’a laissé autant d’archives. Qui aurait pensé qu’après qu’il soit parti pour un autre voyage, nous aurions toute l’histoire de son œuvre en audio, démos, essais, ….?
Ive been so endlessly impressed and amused/amazed with Prince's ability to use the pedals and string dampening system of the piano to not only use them as intended and engineered for but as a time keeping device with a kick drum sounding quality to keep beat and sound awesome as well. There may be other artists out there who do this that im not aware of. He does it well. Just listen to "how come u dont call me" for an example. Genius and cant get enough personally.
And you have how many movies out!?? And you have how many awards...And you play how many instruments...HOW MANY CONCERT TOURS DO U HAVE UNDER UR BELT...IN HOW MANY CITIES AROUND THE WORLD!? Prince was worth more than your WHOLE life at the time of his passing 300/700mill$$ AND THAT SAYS WHAT!!!? HE DID JUS FINE... 😂😂😂😂
Can play the piano and write songs?- u obviously don't know whats happening. Has looking and trying to find chords. Looking for inspiration. He his bouncing ideas. U don't know ur arse from your elbow
For anyone who is unaware..Prince's piano style came from his father...John Nelson, who was a virtuoso jazz pianist/composer in his own right.
I could listen to this side of him for days and never grow tired of it. 💜
@@tr7938 And I'm sick of you! The only crap around here is you! Speaking of crap, there is always one!
I never get tired of any of his sides. :)) :D
@@tr7938 crap??? you have no sense for music and def no ears.
Prince worked harder on his music than James Brown. He worked hard from the beginning. And it payed off well for all of us!! Thank you for uploading!!
He had that rich creative run that we all know about - but the thing we miss is that he had the foresight to record every single thing so he could go back and expand - thank goodness!!
What i like most about this is that he's not just playing.....He's exploring.
It's a man playing from his heart no echo involved that's why we all love him X
Fall leaves cover the street where I sit waiting to pick up my children. This completes the moment. 😊
And then the ads fuck it up again
I love all his piano work I'm finding on here. Earlier saw his "Summertime" before show warmup and fell for his piano jazz sound.
He could have done this for me any day. We miss you Maestro 💜💜
He was the best and still is .💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
No one can take place of this Genius man!! Ever.💜🌟
And always will b!!

Yup. At 27mins he's into the beginnings of the wanderings that would lead him eventually to "Wonderful Ass"

I think when he was playing so along he had every part from the whole band in his head. A real genius. Miss him really. Getting from Munich Andy
Excellent!

U can just imagine Prince everywhere making music all the time in the bathroom in the closet making love all the time
For his pretty little weeping willow. Yes. The muse; She the moon to his sun & came alive with his gifts

I’m really interested in the piece he’s playing from 7:00. Does that come from a record he did later on or before? Sounds heavenly.

Dat purple 💜 music
Wow who is this person? So good at music
😂
0 ( + > u dig
A genius
😂
U serious?🤣 Well to put in the simplest sentence: The Greatest Musical Genius of all time !!
Raspberry Beret 0:00
5:10 - I would die 4 U tempo
2:27 Where is that kick drum coming from?

Are there recordings to purchase of his piano music?
6:00 - 6:45🎹🎼🎵🎶🌌😔
The best part.
Is he playing Yamaha C80 electric piano?
sounds like a real piano
That sounds like the Yamaha cp80 not an acoustic piano
Yeah probably so. He used the cp70/80 quite often like everyone else did in those days
this is 100% not a CP80
Maybe.
I reckon it's not an acoustic piano (not that that is much help to your question, ha ha!)
:-)
Anyone have any more details on the release this is from?
Or a higher audio quality version of this?
It's from a bootleg. There is no official release.
This improvisation is better than all the music he made after 1990
I'd go as far as saying "after 1987", perhaps even "after 1986" (mood depending)
:-)
Chelsea Rogers slaps
@@jbowers56 - It is nice, that's true.

no way
Blasphemous!😶
Oh my god, this is some weak piano playing. This is another emperor has no clothes situation. MCCOY TYNER HE AIN'T!!!

Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man…
Prince was a popular musician in my day, and he still is (hip hop heads will get my reference)😂
