    When you were saying the smallest ones are the hardest to pour it reminded me of when I went from casting 45-70 to .357. It was much more difficult for me to get them to fill out. Nice video!

    Nice job John and great tutorial you hit all the point's...My buddies and I use to make home made jigs back in high school shop class and paint them...They didn't look the best but they worked great for walleye tipped with a minnow...Safety #1 no doubt...Take care brother...

      5/0 down to 1/0, each jig head size requires a different size hook. Thanks for watching!

    Good job but Just an advice Always wear a Mask FFA2P3 when you melt lead and wear Also protective glasses gloves and a protection suit that Is useful to protect you from lead particles.

    hey man I bass fish high school tournaments and I'm running out of jigs and don't have the money anymore for the do it yourself have any ideas on how to do it by hand or by myself with no expense

      How about fabricating a jig by epoxying Pennies or washers to a jig hook to create a weighted head? Decorate with yarn, soft plastics whatever you have around. My son is making lures from house hold tea spoons. Simple carved wood lures work to. Thanks for asking.

    I tried what is so called "fluxing" and it set the lead and my melting pot on fire. I have no idea why it happened. Any ideas or thoughts on that?

    • @jimrivergear
      @jimrivergear  7 лет назад

      Hi Garrett,
      The wax boils from the heat of the lead, sometimes It catches fire and that's normal. If it doesn't catch fire you can use a grill lighter to ignite the smoke so it burns cleaner. Just keep stirring and skimming. Good Luck! Let me know how it turns out. JA

      Спасибо за обновление
      Я должен отметить, что форма должна быть чистой, удалить жир, масло или отпечатки пальцев перед нанесением дыма, углерода, графита. Дайте мне знать, как это работает для вас.

    Can you use range scrap

    • @jimrivergear
      @jimrivergear  3 года назад

      John, my main concern with range scrap would be the possibility of undetonated military type projectiles. A live Raufoss, tracer, or armor piercing incendiary projectile landing in your lead pot could and probably would be deadly. That said, conventional led bullet scrap would melt down fine, copper will float to the top. be safe always! JRG

    battery lead is just fine if you neutralize it with baking soda.

    • @jimrivergear
      @jimrivergear  6 лет назад

      There is much more to it than acid, don't do it is all I can say. The following link explains it.

    • @jimrivergear

      It will work, I do not recommend it. I have always been able to find alternatives. The best use for old batteries is to recycle them into new batteries, IMO.

      Totally understand and respect that. When you get a batch of weights, how do you separate the lead from the zinc? I know mixing the 2 is bad.

    • @jimrivergear
      @jimrivergear  7 лет назад +1

      I sort them visually, that said lead melts at 620F and zinc at 787F so I would think you would have some time to spot "floaters" and skim them off. I will have to throw one in next time just to see.
