I know this comment may go unnoticed, but I cannot tell you how much these videos have helped. I had the great honor of playing Dmitri in the Youth edition of Anastasia and for a while I was having a hard time finding the character. As of writing this comment, the show ended yesterday and these videos helped me so much. I did HOURS of character study. It was so cool bringing Dmitri to the stage, and the show was absolutely amazing. Thank you for posting these vids, as they helped a lot, and farewell Dmitri! I will miss you. (Also, this song was an absolute BLAST to perform, as it provided great challenge for me to grow. This song and character will always hold a special place in my heart.)
Bravo to Derek for his awesome performance of this song! However, I was so let down when I realized the writers changed the ending of this number from the original pre-Broadway version. I can understand they probably realized it was too early in the show to have the lovers admit to themselves their growing affection for one another and I'm glad they lengthened and opened the song up with more verses/changed some of the lyrics. I can also understand their wanting to end it with a big "Broadway" finish. Yet when I first saw the original pre-Broadway ending of this number, my heart melted.
The man is a god. As good an actor as he is a singer, and the amount of control he has in his voice. I'm both exhausted and energized just watching him.
I started waching Anastasia videos cuz my original thought was that the set and the revolve in the ground seemed like a cool concept, I'm usually more of a set, lighting and special effects guy when it comes to theatre, but if there is a role that I really wanna play, I'm gonna go for it! And as I've kept watching videos of Anastasia, I've come to the realization that I kinda really wanna play Dimitri now! Just finished my run as Aladdin, which was one of my dream roles, and now it's time for me to find a new dream role and I think this might be it! I wish I could have seen this on Broadway! Derek Klena is one of my favorites!
@@BroadwaymusicalEdits Yeah, there are a lot of bad professionals. He's good looking and he can sing very well (which in some cases is enough for certain roles and stages, no matter Broadway or Westend), but his acting is over the top. Like... a lot. (I'm a professional as well, just saying. Maybe a good one or maybe a bad one, you'll never know :P )
