I think the unsung advantage of plain chips is that they go with basically any kind of sandwich or dip, whereas the flavored chips are unpalatable in certain combinations.
I never dip chips so...
(Not disagreeing or anything, just saying)
However, this is just on pure taste, and not on the advantages it has when had with other food. If they were to implicate that factor, then I believe the results most definitely would've been swayed.
Yeah, I would only ever get the original or classic lays if I was going to eat them with hot sauce. Otherwise, all you taste is salt.
Yeah I like original lays in nacho cheese.
I only ever get plain chips because I know I wont eat them alone. Yet I need a crunch to my sandwich. Nature's built in way of stopping me from getting early diabetes, a bag of plain chips can last me a dozen sandwiches.

Yeah I was surprised. Truly, I have never had original Ruffles, and barely sour cream and onion!! Really only cheddar and sour cream! I was really surprised!

Classic Pringle's are my go to chip for whenever I want something to snack on. They're good for snacking, they don't taste like lays or ruffles, and then when you're done, it's always fun to practice Bane impressions with the can.
If I was doing this I personally wouldn’t be able to pick between nacho cheese Doritos and cool ranch Doritos even if I had all the time in the world I physically couldn’t choose
