love it! I just got my first 8 string and first GOC, a Materia+. Wow, all I can say is that I'm extremely impressed by all aspects of the guitar. I can't say enough good things about the guitar and GOC in general. Oh, NK takes a month or so because the majority of the time they are built on request/order, so it takes roughly 4-6 weeks for the typical build, then you wait for shipping. It's kind of like ordering from Kiesel.
Before you give up on 8 String try these two tunings; All fourths : F♯'-B'-E-A-d-g-c'-f' Drop E: E-B-E-A-D-G-B-E [Edit] Don't beat yourself up about it. Right now I'm sure it feels kind of clumsy, but it sounds better than you think.
Thank you for your detailed reviews, Chris! By your advice I got myself a GOC Materia 7 C Class, and I really love it and actually prefer it to my Grover Jackson Kelly KDE 150 1998. The resonance is really good, I was really surprised what you get for these money. At the moment I am replacing stock pickups with a DiMarzio ToneZone+Paf set and also gonna install a EMG AB 220 booster as a kind of experiment (stock alnico pickups were pretty good, but a bit dull compared head to head with a Carvin 8-string on SD Nazgul). Right now i just can't wait to hear how it will sing when the mods are done! Also wanna point out a smallish flaw on my GOC - the 0 fret is a little bit too high for 10-56 strings, so i will need to polish it down a bit. Still loving it though.

if you keep it in f# you can play it same as a 6 string with barre chords and your standard a,e,d,g,f chords as well

Do you prefer slope on treble side or bass side on neck?
I like it on the bass side personally.
