Since a lot of people are offended by the title: This is a follow-up to another video that established that while the town is labeled the most racist, you can't judge the entire town by the KKK which has its HQ there. The video is titled ironically to demonstrate again that the town isn't as bad as its been made out to be. The point is everyone should be more open-minded and not treat others based on prejudice. They aren't saying the whole town is racist.
The word "racist" was created for control on free mericans, its a form of shaming. Created back in the late 1800's early 1900's and to this very day we hear race hustlers headed straight to the south. Um, go to Minn, Mich, new yark cali, oregon, you will hear some stuff that will make Howard Stern blush. LOL!

@@nybergsgarage Well, our media and history only wants to talk about those who "did it bad". It's what you want to remember about US history that makes it today. A lot of people can go on about how Europeans came over and stole land, owned slaves and segregate the races. But, a lot of them came to be in the abolitionist movements, fight on the Union side of the Civil war, fight to end wars against the natives and land seizers and took part in the Civil Rights movement. It's only what people want to hear and remember about a country to make it what it is today. Especially with the white half of the country.
Honestly, people tend to be friendly wherever you go if you're friendly first. Southern Whites in particular are crucified by Hollywood as the world's most horrible people, but the truth is that any given group of white American southerners is not unlike any other ethnic/national group of anyone else. Most will be nice or at least cordial. Some will be indifferent. A few will be hostile.
They are talking to an Asian guy. If you were a racist, would you express your racism directly at his face? Of course not. For being 'the most racist town in Arkansas', the people that were picked to do these questions seemed pretty nice and down to earth. As someone living in the SF Bay Area, I struggled with a couple of those questions.
I think this video shows we shouldn't be sowing stereotypes and perhaps some of the divisions we create are only of our own perceptions. The morale. Don't judge a book a book by its cover or because someone else already described the cover and no one bothered to follow up. I couldn't get most of these questions. There is no distinction here between a town in Arkansas and its people and a town in California, Washington or Oregon.

This was great. Thank you guys. At times being a person with an interest in Chinese language and culture in a place where it's not expected or normal is discouraging. These young women in front of the storefront, and the sister of that guy with the truck (and honestly, even him, given how open he was to correction about boba), and that one dude in the yellow Pac-Man t-shirt gave me some hope for rural America.
To be fair, if you travel into the heartland of China, which I have done, it’s much the same as this. I lived in China for six years and traveled a lot for my job. Although people are fairly knowledgeable about the USA, because they learn in school English starting in second grade (so they know English greetings), there’s extreme ignorance about Europe and Latin America. So many times I would find people that didn’t know what language was spoken in Mexico or Cuba or Argentina or Spain. They had never even heard of Spanish. They wouldn’t know the difference between Spanish, Italian and French. I also had teenage students who thought that London is the capital of the USA. I also met people who thought that the English language originated in the USA, not in England. I think the bigger a country is, and the more self-sufficient it is in providing its own entertainment/movies/songs/TV, the more ignorant it is of the outside world, especially if people don’t live in cosmopolitan cities that don’t get a lot of foreign visitors and workers. The people in Shanghai are much more internationally savvy than the people in Yinchuan. Same thing with the people who live in NYC and this people in this heartland town in the video.
TBH, it's very understandable. Why would a rural Chinese person learn about the details of European or Latin American languages. The vast majority will never go to any of those places and learning about them won't be useful in any practical way to them.
@@PerfectSense77 Came from rural China and I can definitely confirm this. In rural China when I was there, we never really thought about other countries or their culture and language because we were just focused on making ends meet. For the most part, the focus was on the kid(s) exceeding in school, going to university, and getting a job so the entire family could live in the city and not be impoverished anymore.
I am really glad someone pointed this out, and from my experience from living in Europe and the Middle East it's the same situation for many people, it's not an American thing

I remembered I was on a two week training in Texas. I went to a church for Sunday service (back then I was still religious). It was at Deep South, and the all white Baptist church congregation looked at me like I was some strange alien, and I heard them sort of whispering and wondering where I was from. They seemed asking some ushers to find me a Japanese Bible or something, but before long the service started as the organist played the first hymn, and the congregation stood up and started sing. I took the Baptist hymnal and found the hymn and sang along - and I could see them watched me in utter amazement because I could sing their hymns (I attended an Anglican school and sang Christian hyms for years). They talked with me for a while after the service and were curious to know where I came from. People don't become xenophobic or just racists, they were misled into hatred - the whole America must receive a lot more information about other places, instead of just watching Superbowl, NBA or baseball.

Because of the actual cases are low. 1 attack last year versus 2 this year is 100% increase. Other races also were attacked in the streets. The media is trying so hard to make Asians feel like victims.
What annoys me the most is that when people think of Asia, they most likely only refer to East Asia. They forget India, all the "Stan" nations, most of the Middle East, and most of Russia are also in Asia.
My personal experience was the opposite when I was growing up in the UK. There were so many times when I got excited that an Asian was featured in a magazine, only to find out that it was a South Asian and never an East Asian like me (not hating on anyone, we ARE all Asians, it just felt like people who looked like me were never represented). Instead, we were referred to as Orientals, a word I always disliked and a lot of the time, the focus was on our "oriental eyes".
Rick, I believe it is small efforts like yours, offered with kindness and humor, that have the best chance of curing the xenophobia (fear/hatred of foreigners, of the "others") that has caused most human wars, and is still much too prevalent in our world. Thank you.

people think calling out racist activities is going to solve the issue but it won't. Sure I think calling out actions that is wrong should be done but people are more likely to change their opinions and actions when they are exposed to other cultures in a fun and interactive way. More likely that not, some of these people may have gained new found interest in Asian culture which will make them less prone to actions that are seen as racist. Yelling at them would have just made them defensive of their old mindset. You don't want people to double down on bad behavior so negative reinforcement is generally a bad idea. Criticisms need to be much more targeted and considerate to be effective.

I'm a nice guy. Wrik from the video.
They are talking to an Asian guy. If you were a racist, would you express your racism directly at his face? Of course not. All they are doing is abiding by basic manners while talking to a stranger, no matter their actual belief. Just because they don't sound explicitly racist doesn't mean they aren't.

@@MARCBEA1 Did you know in America during the covid pandemic they attacked and killed elderly Asians (Chinese, Filipinos, Thais, Koreans, Japanese) in the streets? Take it easy that racist narrative, you think this all fun but you have no idea what real racism is. Besides, no Africans were killed in China. They were allowed back into their homes the next day after Chinese police intervened and sided with the Africans.
@@tbarry2011 this is another social engineering by the media. How many incidents were there against Asians? They use percentages like 100% increase but not actual raw numbers. Why? Because of the actual cases are low. 1 attack last year versus 2 this year is 100% increase. Other races also were attacked in the streets. The media is trying so hard to make Asians feel like victims.

What annoys me the most is that when people think of Asia, they most likely only refer to East Asia.
They forget India, all the "Stan" nations, most of the Middle East, and most of Russia are also in Asia.
That's what ignorant means;;;
Not Knowing... Teach 1 Reach 1...
@@yaruuka I only noted some examples
they always forget about kyrgyzstan 😢
My personal experience was the opposite when I was growing up in the UK. There were so many times when I got excited that an Asian was featured in a magazine, only to find out that it was a South Asian and never an East Asian like me (not hating on anyone, we ARE all Asians, it just felt like people who looked like me were never represented). Instead, we were referred to as Orientals, a word I always disliked and a lot of the time, the focus was on our "oriental eyes".
@@lvmify sorry 😧😎
Rick, I believe it is small efforts like yours, offered with kindness and humor, that have the best chance of curing the xenophobia (fear/hatred of foreigners, of the "others") that has caused most human wars, and is still much too prevalent in our world. Thank you.
That world will get destroyed one day if racism doesnt stop
@Ragnar Odinsson sorry for you
Actually, i believe that Zinc is actually the most racist town in America which resides a KKK group, they just do their parading in Harrison so their town stays clean in rep.
actually most human wars were caused by rich people wanting more power but ok

This is the kind of stuff that brings people together, and the type of journalism the MSM refuses to do.
wish they would do this
Hate this and agree with this at the same time.
people think calling out racist activities is going to solve the issue but it won't.
@@neurofiedyamato8763 if more people are like you there will be no BLM instead there would be reasonable conversation

I’ve lived in and around San Francisco for most of my life, I lived in Hawaii for five years, I’m pretty good with Asian stuff. But I’m also a 75-year-old woman, so I have no idea K-pop groups. So I missed that one. But I have had Boba and it is outstanding and last I heard there was a Boba shortage! Also I am the Dog and my husband is the Dragon and we’re supposed to be incompatible but we’ve managed to hold it together for 34 years! :)
And I have to say kudos to the guy with the violin and the yellow shirt, the chick immediately to your right, and the sister. They did well! It may be the alleged most racist city in Arkansas, but I upgraded my dim view of Southerners a bit watching that. We all can learn something from each other.…
Some of the questions would definitely be hard to answer unless you know about current trends in Asia. I believe the boba shortage was at the beginning of this year and is all good now, I’m not sure though because I don’t live in America and we had no shortage here.
