Woah, I never thought about timing out Yumeko's scary attacks to avoid the berserk parts, always just assumed they were like 2 separate phases. Wish I saw this when I was still getting my 1ccs on this, clever stuff.
It's a really useful strat, but only when you're going for LNB or LNN. For regular 1cc players it'd be probably better to just bombskip those, because even though you won't see berserk parts when you don't shoot, you still need to be good at Phase 1 and it lasts for 35 seconds. It also isn't worth it in scoring because by using this strat, you won't get any point items
Thanks! Over 700 views is pretty alright in my opinion, especially since I'm not a well known player and Mystic Square isn't a popular Touhou game. Shinki's final is usually very tame, but It can be sometimes very dickish, just like in the video, but that's her in general. :-D Her opener can be annoying as heck as well if she decides to stay too low, then these white bullets can almost wall you. The funniest thing is, ZUN is very aware of dickishness of his games. In Mystic Square's Omake, you can read his tips regarding dealing with most patterns in the game, and sometimes he just says "There's no special way to handle it, just bomb, dummy" :-D
How this works is still a mystery for me, but probably you can't get more than 140 if you play as Mima. I could consistently get 160 as Marisa, I wonder how it works with other characters. I might try to find out
Hey, I'm currently going for a Mystic Square LNN with Yuuka. My best run so far is a 1 miss to Shinki's final. It really stung losing a run at the last minute, and I'm even more nerveous because I'm worried about it happening again. Is there anything about the run you remember all these years later? I'd take any advice at all. I wont go into too much specifics, but the major runkillers are Yumeko's red and blue spam, Shinki's 3rd pattern, and DR. Especially with Yuuka's movement speed making Yumeko's fight even harder, I really would like to know anything you might remember. Thanks in advance!
Hey, getting past Yumeko with Yuuka's speed is not an easy task, considering how fast and random her attacks can be. It's easily the hardest part of the run and your best bet during red and blue patterns is to not shoot to skip rage phases at the end, but sadly it's still not 100% guaranteed you'll survive. The red spam is a bit worse than the blue one, due to amount of swords and their randomness. The blue spam is less about RNG and more about timing. If your restreams timing is consistent, then lasers become more predictable, and then you'll only need to watch out to not bump into a stray sword. Bad RNG can still happen of course, but in my experience it's not as critroll heavy as the red one. Practice timing for the blue laser phase and it should become mostly consistent, I don't know what advice I can give for the red one, cause this pattern is just evil and it does whatever it wants. Back then one of my LNN pace attempts died to the Shinki Glitch so If you don't want to die from it just like me, don't shoot when cheeto lasers are on screen during Mai and Yuki boss fight, cause they don't get wiped from memory if you end Phase 3 while lasers are still on screen and they will reappear once you reach Shinki. For the rest of Shinki, Phase 3 can be safespotted at the start above her, and then it's about quick reading, best way is to just practice it until it clicks. DR is streaming, and should be simple enough for Phase 1 and 2. Phase 3 is trickier, but it's at least pretty short, pretty much same advice as for Shinki's 3rd pattern. In general, practice makes perfect, make sure to not strictly focus on runkillers. Being 100% consistent with the easier parts will result in more frequent Stage 5 or even Stage 6 entries. That should boost confidence and also make resets less painful. Keep in mind that savestates also save your RNG seed, so try to do something different at the start, like some random graze to make sure, your seed will be different every time. Saving a little before the part you want to practice helps a lot also. Good luck with your attempts, you're really close if you got this far. That death to the final was 100% nerves, but a bit of more practice, more attempts and you should get it soon enough!
@@Oringiri Thanks for the response. I used this video's run as a baseline for strategies so I'm already doing things like waiting for Yuki and Mai cheeto bullets, and Yumeko timeouts. One thing I do differently is bottomhugging for DR. In general a big issue I'm having is feeling like I've reached a plateau in practice. Stages 1-3 are 99% consistent, the only things that kill me here are my own greed for early game power and bad Alice opener RNG. The rest of the game though, feels like I've done all I can do to make it as consistent as possible. Practice attempts usually go fine and I can reliably capture even the previously listed problem patterns. (yes my savestates are a bit before the pattern starts to avoid the same RNG.) But when I'm on a run the game just seems to invent new ways to give bad RNG to the s4 midboss spam or Yuki+Mai. I wish I could get a fresh perspective on these patterns because I'm out of ideas on how to improve.
Losing runs to stage 4 was a problem for me as well early on, but after a while it just clicked, and I was able to reach Yumeko pretty often if I wasn't memed by Alice's opener vomit. I'm sure if you keep playing you'll eventually succeed considering how strong your pb is
@@Oringirithanks again, i'm going to focus on stage 4. stage 4 is where nearly all of my attempts are currently dying to, and if i could get past it more consistently, i would be getting runs into stage 5 all the time. unfortunately, yuuka really sucks at the patterns at 13:40-13:57, and 14:10-14:35. her low damage takes forever to kill the "pinwheels" as i call them, and her movement speed makes it even harder to kill the enemies when they spawn on opposite sides of the screen. getting past these sections make me really nerveous, so being more consistent at them would not only get more runs into stage 5, but also tone down nerves massively.
@@Oringiriupdate: I got the lnn!!! the video will be up soon, maybe it is already there by the time you're reading this? but you definitely helped out. thanks so much!
It probably depends on which Windows exactly. Try to turn off vsync in your graphic card settings. You'll probably experience screen tearing, but games should be a bit more responsive. For newer games (MoF and onwards) try to play with and without vpatch and see which one controls better. I haven't measured it in any way, but I feel more input lag while playing with vpatch in newer games. You can also turn off every unnecessary software in Task Manager while playing (Discord, Steam etc).
