I don’t use that abacus method but I’ve always practiced doing all my calculations in my head so I was able to do these quickly as well. I’m proud of myself for finally being good at something.
When I was younger I used to used mental abacus in daily math and in tests as well because we were not allowed calculators in class and this was faster...but the teachers said I couldn't do it because, I was distracting other students in class and I looked like I could cheat this way. I mean if you don't understand something its not like its not the right way...hate those teachers. These kids are great but this is the normal speed of any level 8 abacus student(a common level 8 student is usually 8-12 years old) hope their teachers let them use their skill in the class.
I was never.. I mean never was good in math.. Though I grew up to be a casino dealer.. Ironically.. But anyway when I was younger I couldn't really understand the concept of x and y and whatever letters there was in algebra or any mathematical equations for that matter... My teachers in high school used to reprimand me and questioned the way I solved them... Coz sometimes I would get an answer without solving things on paper.. I'll just have a drawing of how I understood the problem... But when I got into college the professors were more open. They understood that a mathematical problem could be solved in different ways and it is up to the student to solve it in ways where it would be easier and convenient to him... The important thing is the student understands the problem... For me, it would be great if their teachers let them be...it is always great to be open to new approaches to solving mathematical equations... The more creative the better...
