ClubMan Pinaud Shaving Soap

  • Company: Clubman
    Product: Shaving Pinaud Shaving Soap
When I started this hobby I was testing out what I liked I ran across many wet shavers using Clubman products. I was already using the aftershaves but never venture to anything else. Then along came the holidays and Clubman sent out an email blast with an offer I could not refuse. So I picked up a couple of things Shaving Cream, Shaving Soap even pomade all kinds of goodies.
The shaving cream disappointed me so much that I left all the other products I purchased on the den shelf where I promised I would go back to them another day but that was two years ago. I recently looked at that shelf and said I think its time to revisit these products so the first one I will talk about today is the Clubman Pinaud Shaving Soap.
I had forgotten how surprised I was to find out the size of the container. Since it was such a long time ago I can’t recall what I paid for it but I’m glad it was on sale I would have been pissed if I paid full price for it. I’ve seen this go for $10.00 to about $5.00 so look out for the cheapest way to get yours because it’s only 2.oz some report it as 2.4oz. I’d like to know what makes this mass produced shaving soap in a plastic tub so expensive?
The scent is nice a fragrance but I find no trace of any information regarding what they note not even on the Clubman website. I heard they had vanilla listed at one point but now that has been taken down. In fact, some categorized it as a masculine scent but I’m not so sure about that. I have visited this site before and it is full of errors and omissions I think it needs to be looked at because I’ve called them in the past with things I've found. If you do have this let me know what you think it’s scent is.
When it comes to lathering this soap does a nice job. My bowl lather was great and produced an amazing amount of it too. The lather got right into the beard providing great coverage a nice rich creamy lather. The slickness and glide where tops allowing me to go over trouble spots with no irritation at all. Although I did spot a nick after looking into the mirror I can’t really blame the soap because as I talk and shave this is when it happens I’ve been noticing this happening now that are talking during the shave if I keep silent I usually have none. That's hard to do when you need to comment on the process.
So, regardless of the 2oz high price for this mass produced soap, I did have a great shave. I will use this again in my rotation but when it’s gone it’s gone I don’t think I’m going to reorder this again. Not because I didn’t like it because with so many other major and artisan companies providing wet shavers product they need to reevaluate the price structure before I’ll buy again. I do believe they need to up the amount of shaving soap in the tub for $5:00

A great product. I also use the brushless barber cream that comes both in the large tub or the plastic tube. Both produce the smoothest shaves and leave an old -school barbershop scent behind. I use any of the various Pinaud aftershave splashes with this and feel good all day! Thanks for demonstrating this product!

    Peneaud is pronounced Pay-Know.
I just bought this soap and can't wait to try it. I love my creams, but after trying l'occitane shave soap it has giving me faith in shaving soaps being able to deliver a briliant shave. My first shave soap was a disaster and jaded my opinion of soaps for years.
The Penaud shaving cream (brushless cream) produces a briliant slick shaving expierience. I use this as a preshave only becaue I love using my brush.
    Great review.

Hey Don! That's disappointing to hear about the scent. I would've thought that the soap smelled like the Pinaud after shave, which is iconic (in my opinion; I know a lot of people hate it. I always loved it). If I want a "scent-free" soap, I'll go with Soap Commander or one of the Palmolive creams. Have a great weekend, and see you next week!

Thanks for your video. I've searched for a Clubman Pinaud shaving soap review after I bought and tested it.
Im a first year in DE shaving and using three razors at the moment - R89, 34C and Fatip (open comb).
I haven't tried that many shaving soaps so far (Muehle, Proraso, Cella, Arko, Vielong and Wilkinson) and recently purchased Clubman Pinaud. In my opinion its worst soap I ever tried. It lathers very poorly. It smells like regular cheap soap in a public restroom.
On top of this - that tiny little 59 gram package costs almost twice more than 150 grams Proraso for where I live. Package plastic is super cheap. I've expected more for that price but was dissapointed.

Clubman has been around a long time and seems to have changed hands as well I have noticed a decline in product appearance as well as performance that being said they are not an artisan company the products are mass-produced so I don't expect that much - thanks for watching

The only Clubman product I own is the 'Classic Barber Shaving Cream'. You apply it with your fingers. It is the slickest and best post shave feel product I have ever come across. And the performance is amazing. If you are in a hurry and need a quick shave: try it! Only problem is that it doesn't come with a brush/bowl/lather ritual. And it gets messy (which is probably a bonus for you Don 😉)
I will see if I can get you some. Do you have any other products from Europe on your list? Then I can make it a nice package to account for the shipping costs 😉
All the best Don and see you next week! Ronald

Well, bluming is also a way but if you haven't used many pucks in your life I can see why you might be missing something. Scrapping as you say from any soap and then placing it into a bowl is not unusual. - Thanks for watching

@MrDonXX , thanks for the response! I appreciate that there is always more than one way to skin a cat 😉 I enjoy using the blume water and find it a satisfying ritual. The Clubman puck is tiny and yields little blume water, but I find it satisfying nonetheless.

The good news is that Stirling has a Clubman scented soap! Great vid as usual. And hey, if your skin only needs one pass and buffing, then that’s all it needs. I can’t buff much, depending on what I’m using, but I have a totally different face and skin type. Sometimes we act like everyone’s faces are the same and that one technique is good for everyone. None of them are good for everyone! See you next time👍👍

In practice to actually sell it they want the price to appear cheap ; on shelves if it was $ 19.99 for 5 oz. that would seem quite expensive. People wouldn't look at quantity . Some great soaps are very expensive but they are not on shelves, i.e. Martin de Candre at over $50 for 7.05 oz. , but it is excellent and lasts forever. My rating on this is from my experience Slickness, glide and lather I felt all ok the scent was low for me but we have differences when judging things. That's what makes us like one scent while another guy just hates it. if all you wanted to do was say " artisan shave soaps are made more slicker and protective.
