firaun (Arabic: فرون) was the ruler of Egypt during the time of Musa (Moses). According to the Quran, he was a cruel and merciless tyrant who enslaved and persecuted the Children of Israel.
Musa
After Allah instructs Musa's mother to put him in the river, Musa is discovered by Firaun's wife, Asiya. Asiya convinces Firaun to spare him and keep him. Asiya would later become a Muslim and is held as one of the best women in the world, according to the hadith.
When Musa reaches maturity (40 years of age) he accidently murders an Egyptian by punching him during a fight between an Israelite and an Egyptian. When Firaun finds out, he sends soldiers to execute Musa, but Musa is warned of this and flees to Midian. He works for his father in law until he is instructed by Allah to return to Egypt and preach monotheism to Firaun.

As Musa fled from Egypt with the Children of Israel, Firaun's army pursued them. Allah then instructed Musa to strike the Red Sea with his staff, and after he did, the sea was split in two. But after Musa and the Children of Israel passed, the sea crashed upon Firaun and his army, drowning him. Before dying, Firaun testified that he now believed in Allah and that he was now a Muslim. But he was told that it was too late, as he had before been a disobeyer and a corrupter.

Allah promises that Firaun's body will be preserved after his death.
Firaun's Identity
The Quran nor Hadith mention the specific name of Firaun. However, some have tried to used details in the Quran to figure it out. Some have stated that Ramesses II is Firaun for the following reasons.
1) Ramesses II is one of the few Pharaoh's whose body is almost completely intact. His body is now on display at the National Museum of Egyptian History. Which fulfills the prophecy in Quran 10:95. 2) Firaun ruled Egypt before Musa was born. Musa fled to Midian at the age of maturity, which is 40 years, he spend an additional 8-10 years in service of his father in law. Meaning that Firaun had to have ruled over 48 years, which very few Pharaoh's ever reached that point. Ramesses II ruled for 66 years. 3) Ramesses II was clearly very egotistical, this is seen in his several large building projects built to commemorate himself.
