The dog Fox seemed terribly confused by the vixen leading him on and then turning on him. No mating took place during daylight hours, but, after dark, vocalisations probably meant that the deed had taken place...
You will see, in the film, that the vixen is the smaller of the two. And the dog Fox is "packing" (a superb target for snapping vixen jaws!)
