good and warm same temps we get in australia, our temps are similar to barstow CA. the best part is solar panels cool your house using the sun the very thing that makes it hot in the first place.
I see a lot of people that don't realize that these are considered air circulators and when people get disappointed by them it's usually because the output is not like a floor blower which is not the point. Great review by the way.
i love vornados i couple years ago picked up a 293 hd off Ebay with a failed motor as the thermal fuse is blown as i put in a FASCO 3.3 in shaded pole 3 speed motor i had laying around it works but noisy draws more amps i anticipated as im keeping my eyes open for a newer motor a energy efficient PSC permanent split capacitor type. and with automatic reset thermal protection the old box fans had. as i have an older Vornado 283 HD with its original Vornado made motor before they now started importing its motors. some fans i replaced the motors with FASCO 3.3 in motors couple i put in similar US Motors psc with variable speed triac switches one was a full sized 793 DC with a bad Delta Electronics Brushless DC motor i converted to a AC PSC type motor as the US MOTORS came with a run cap and is reversible by the reversing wires.
thats good they move alot of air but in the mid 2000s Vornado started to import the motors from China by different mfgs one SuperElectric, the other Pan Globe as when Vornado air circulation systems was established the fans initially used motors the 3.3 in motors made by FASCO then a much larger motor made by McMillan Electric Co as the early 2000s some 280 circulators and the 283 HD used Vornado's own made PSC motor thats sealed ball bearing before they started to put the imported motors in the USA assembled as the other model fans that Vornado has are imported from China. as the USA assembled models are easy to fix and to replace the motors on. if a new FASCO or similar 3.3 in motor its recommended to cut the short studs off and putting longer screws to mount the motor to the older 280 and 700 series circulators as the motor holds the brackets to the fan base. When you replace a motor match your amps it be around 1.4 for the shaded pole and .7 to .9 amps for the permanent split capacitor motor. as you can use a single speed shaded pole or PSC motor and add a variable speed Triac motor control switch they are readly available at most HVAC supply houses or on Ebay as the FASCO 9721 is a good replacement motor is cut the shaft to your particular fan, move the run capacitor to inside the switch housing as these motors you can reverse the rotation easilly with the wires on the side its like a universal replacement. as some motors you have to wire them according to the diagram to run on either 115 volt or 208-230 volt depends on what motor you get. as its worth fixing these 293 fans when the fuse pops better than a new fan
