This has basically everything I want in a camera. This probably won't be possible but if this thing got BRAW...I would be very excited. I loved the review and the doc at the end. Beautifully done.
@@AnkurGurungtrendsetter Hi - been busy with a couple projects, one I hope to post to RUclips sometime this summer. Posted a teaser a month or two back.
Thank you, Deborah, for sharing your life and feelings with us. Very brave! I loved the small documentary. Johnny's work is always beautiful, and so are your photographs, Deborah.
the best reviews, docs on youtube. honestly, always moving. we get the tech specs and the real world use but mainly we get the end product from a real artist. more then most reviewers can say. bravo.
Great review. I've been a big fan of Kinefinity for the last 3-4 years having used their Terra 4k and Mavo LF cameras quite a lot. They are wonderful camera and the Edge 8k is another amazing leap forward for them. Your short film of Deborah was just wonderful.
What an absorbing, beautiful, engaging documentary Johnnie, thanks so much for including this. So nice to see slow movement gently drawing the viewer in. Really captivating, plus the camera really delivers on IQ. Been considering Kinefinity since their start, this looks like a fabulous package.
Beautifully shot and edited. Loved that looking up trees wide angle B-roll edit in there as well as the river B-rolls so nicely mixed with her voice. Hope they add some gyroscopic motion detection data in there so you can stabilize in post.
I haven't been that gripped to a documentary in so long. For once in a very long time I could nourish myself to superb cinematography; the breathing room, timing, exposures and gentle movements were extraordinary. I hope more people get the chance to feel what I just felt, and I am so tempted to get an Edge 8K myself, now.
Brilliant work, really. This is the way to show what a camera is capable of. Best picture quality I've seen in a while, especially for the price point.
Best cameras are the one's that don't get in the way of the story. Capturing the images in a way that helps tell this story in indoor, outdoor and low light locations shows the true capability of this camera. Very impressed that this was not shot in RAW which is the latest rage now.
🙏🏾👍🏾 WOWWW, amazing review and amazing documentary ! You're amazing, and so is Deborah! Fantastic work, CineD, I just subscribed! Thank you and Best Wishes
I know you’re talking about the Mavo Edge, but all I can think about is how great the Fuji XT4 footage looks upres’d to 8k! LOL. Thanks for this review! And I really love the footage from this camera! The Mavo is really going after RED. 8k at 75fps!! I haven’t filmed on the Monstro or Weapon, but the RED Epic-W has to scale down in resolution and greater compression for 75fps. I love all the connections on the back and that battery option is just awesome! When the V-mounts run out that’s the end of the shoot day, but everything has a Sony battery. Love the mini doc! Johnnie, you are the king of mini docs! I want a mini doc of you teaching how to mini doc! Thanks so much!!
Some really nice features on this camera. I especially love the dual battery option. I wish they had more service places in the states. If there were, this brand would be a consideration for my next camera.
when are you guys going to finally test DR and RS , im looking to see how it compares to the Komodo , and how close it is to the Alexa sensor in terms of DR
Would have loved to see the doc first and then the explanation of the camera tech. Let’s always put the art first and the technology second. Thank you for the video.
very high image quality, and very smooth results when doing some panning ... I suppose the slight teal and orange look comes from postproduction color grading.
Wow, the part about everything being a reflection is really deep :D beautifully made! Ps. Were the images stylized in post or neutral rec709? I sometimes got the feeling there was a weird color tint and I'd like to know if it's the color science, my eyes or a creative lut ;D
It says luts by https:/fylm.ai right at the end of the video, so I'm guessing it's maybe one of their 15 ready-made ACEScct Print Film Emulations in combination with one of their 15 Cine looks made into a lut.
From what I understand. I guess they were hoping to bypass the RED paten by working with Apple to implement ProRes Raw. But that doesn’t appear the case they still have to pay RED to use Raw In camera and given that Kinefinity would still have to Pay apple for ProRes Raw license, they were getting hit twice in terms of cost. So they scrapped it.
From what I know, the majority of cinema cameras do not allow users to directly delete individual clips other than full format the media, I don't know why is it an issue with Kinefinity. Also, about the pricing part, you pay what you are apealing to, if the camera doesn't fullfil your needs, you don't buy it. Kinefinity being a 12k dollars camera is giving you way much more value relatively nonexists in the market, the ProRes Raw issue is not about how Kinefinity want to price, it's about the RAW patent holding by two parties, and you can't charge the user a slight amount individually to compensate the overall cost that's being paid to both Apple and the other patent holder.
@@Mr_Frequency Even if they fold the camera company (unlikely - the Komodo selling very well) just having that patent will give them economic life for the next 60 years. If Apple couldn't break it, no-one can.
@@Mr_Frequency RED is a revolutionary camera, Jim Jannard was a visionary. A Ninja V weighs only a few ounces, SSDs are much less expensive than internal media and serious productions incl. HDR require an external monitor anyhow. When you invent an industry changing cinema camera, give away all your patents for free! 😂 Only an unstable person would talk about destroying any camera manufacturer.
Waiting for this camera for too long, great specs but how about rolling shutter and color science ? Every pan or travelling that I saw from this camera are so so jittery ...
They may have no other choice now. Given that the two SDI ports are not fast enough for 4K and 8K raw recording (3G only), ProRes Raw even externally is out the window.
But really why don't they have a physical Office here in USA, if possible in Los Angeles, that will be Fantastic, I just want to see it before spending my money, but something tells me I might prefer it more than Red camera.....I think 🤔.
.......It's good....but I'm gonna wait until the next camera manufacture.... to come out with a better one... And then.....I still won't buy ......There will be another better one shortly after that. ......In fact.....I think I'm just gonna keep on waiting.....I may never shoot any content.....but at least I'll never be that guy with the dated camera. 😁
This is great content but man, you need to script your videos. I’m trying to be patient as you fumble through your thoughts and perhaps struggle with English words but at certain points, it’s just too much (when you were talking about ProRes raw fro example)

The documentary seems very emotional 😭 where can I watch the full length of it.
Hi
Ishijah1. Unfortunately there is no "full length" version. This mini doc is part of us testing the camera. Thanks for understanding.

Beautiful mini doc! I don't understand the patent situation. It only applies to US and Kinefinity doesn't sell in the US, so what's the deal?
RED can sue anywhere outside of China.
Red seriously is evil at this point and needs to be destroyed economically for the good of the video industry.

honest question: who is buying these Kine cameras? Is this the default in Asia?

FINALLY!
They should have added BRAW to it. I find it better then Prores RAW. That would have made it worth the price tag.

8K 12 bit 4:4:4 on a full frame sensor. I wished the new Blackmagic full frame sensor Ursa was 8K not 12K. Simply because it is very bad in low light.
