@@RCRetro I still have mine from when I was 5 years old or so. Yours is in much better shape. Mine is missing the air intake on top of the super charger and the tip of the smoke stack broke off. If you decide to blow yours up could you donate those two small parts to me? Lol Such a cool video and great content.
Gotta admit, the Big Bubba is so cute driving on the grass. Bouncing around and that noise of the gear box makes it more cuter. Sound so weird saying this, but being very transparent about it!🤣
I remember getting a black one for Christmas many many years ago. Fond memories of playing with it after watching this. So went hunting for it, pulled it out of a box. With a new battery goes like new again! That’s pretty awesome for such an old truck that I used to thrash!
Such a cool little truck. Nikko were one of the few toy grade companies to branch out into hobby grade and this truck is sort of like a hybrid between the twp with some very toy like features but some hobby style aspects too. It even has metal dog bone drive shafts inside! Have you seen the slightly later Hawg/Thor style truck? It's literally an electronics suite away from an entry level Tamiya of Kyosho of the time. Shame it had twin 380 motors. That can be changed, though 😃 Great video! It's quite satisfying to put modern electronics in them, much nicer to drive with proportional controls and a brake! The little front trailing arms do pretty well but the rear end has that same old problem as the Grasshopper etc where it locks up under throttle. Bounce bounce bounce! It has a charm to it, though!
I had the Nikko Magnum as a kid and my friends had Big Bubbas. We played in a garage at night when it was too cold to ride our atv's those guys loved to corner my car and run over it with their trucks. We all grew into hobby grade over time but those early memories are so good. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed that! I’ve got a couple of Nikko f10 thunderbolts to put modern electrics in myself again not much in it between them and a grasshopper hornet etc
I got this for Christmas when I asked for a kangaroo with a 540 in it. At first I was disappointed but it grew on me. I used to set up a course in the living room with pillows for jumps. A few months ago I found what was left of my Big Bubba when I was cleaning out my parents house (my dad passed away) and it brought back all those memories. Cool little truck that I’m glad I got for Christmas that year.
Great video dude 🙌🏻 Had me smiling throughout. Enjoyed your stories about your RC history. I too also started out with a Kyosho Raider kit back in the late 80s. That Corvette looked cool though despite you getting smoked by your buddy’s Big Bubba. Never seen one of those here in the UK but it has all the characters of a toy great RC bouncing along the grass 😂 your editing skills are most excellent as I didn’t realise the steering had gone until the end 🪄 All the best dude and thanks for the great content 🙌🏻👍🏻
Still have mine from the Early 90’s - The Wife Got it for me one Christmas to Run it Around Inside The House - She Still Gets (PO’d) when I Leave Burn Out Marks on the Tile From My Tamiya’s - But It Has Gone Through Both my Sons and Now My Granddaughter - Learning the R/C Hobby Before Moving them into Hobby Grade Kits - a Little Battered but Still Runs Great. Great Video - Thanks
Glad you could add a vehicle that played a part in your childhood to your collection. You’ll probably need to give your camera crew a raise; not sure they’ll be satisfied wih just a KFC lunch for long. 😃
Great video, thanks for braking the normal high end rc car stigma and making this. I've got a story behind one too. Was my first "custom" rc I ever did with just a simple model truck body in about the 7th grade. It was my own version of the clodbuster I couldn't ever have as a kid. It lit a fire for sure !
i had the red one. bought it at toys r us for my birthday. the remote had a "turbo" feature on the accelerator that had an extra click when you squeezed it all the way. great fun
Love this. I still have a Nikko Wild Express, which is the same as this, just in blue (possibly a UK Market thing). I nearly binned it a few years ago as it only turned left constantly when i finally dug it out of the loft. Then in 2019 i bought some cheap 27mhz radio gear, a 2nd hand ESC, cut the Nikko Circuit Board out and put the above elecs in it. Took ages to come up with a solution to get the steering servo to sit in the little cup which operates the steering on this. Still working 4 years later though. :-) I can't even find a pic online of a Nikko Wild Express though 🤔
Man the Big Bubba was my first RC. I actually had to buy one for my collection. That truck got me hooked on RC. The Marui Big Bear was my first hobby grade RC. I still have my Big Bear in mint condition.
Thing's faster than I expected it'd be. I have the Lobo version but, haven't gotten to test it out yet. I love the sturdy, weighty construction of 80's and 90's quality class toy-grade RC's. I used to have a Radio Shack Trespasser too. If you don't have one then. I highly recommend it. They're mean machines!
This was my first rc car as a boy! I broke the blower off and my dad covered the hole with an awesome holographic bunny sticker. I realized years later it was a playboy bunny LOL
I got a Big Bubba for Xmas around 1987-88. I asked for a Grasshopper but my father buy me that instead. I had a lot of run with it until it got wet and stopped running for good.
That's so funny I had some same experience I got beat by the big bubba and after I got the lunch box and put a hornet pinion gear on it in a drag race no in naborhood could beat me lol
I still have mine working with controller and everything. only problem is the little white plastic gear that turns the tire is broken. I tried to put a zip tie but didn't work so the tire won't spin. Got any recommendations for parts?
I had the Red Sears LOBO version. Man I beat the Snot out of that thing. I remember it only ran like 10min and the battery would puke. Could hardly move in High Gear. It finally stopped steering and I never figured out why.
I wanted one so bad. I had a friend that had one. I thought it was so cool. You should Race the Nikko vs the high rider corvette now... I feel there was something wrong with your childhood Vette. it should have been faster.
Wonder how this would run with a 20 turn 540 instead of what I'd guess is a 35t 540. Hobby grade convert with a proper servo in the front maybe ? Bet some parts from a Tamiya TL01 servo mount & reinforcing around screw holes that uses with an aluminium plate or carbon fibre & a few upper control arms used as steering rods would make it work with a servo horn servo saver. Maybe a mini servo mount & 3d printing a mount would work better if a normal servo is too large.
It's got a 360 motor lol A 390 would fit straight on which would give a nice boost or maybe a 380 size brushless, would have to be careful with the driveline though. I've converted a few Nikkos to brushless and the gears are normaly very tough for what they are, bit it helps to avoid flooring it on grippy surfaces etc to avoid shocking the driveline.
I have a Nikko RC 1/14 Mercedes 280CE. Anyone could help how to achieve the max. speed? I have a motor with orange and blue wires and the max voltage applied is the 4x C-type 1.5V batts. I only achieve around 15km/h and in the box it states up to 35km/h but I don't know how.
I should dig out my old Nikko. Forget which name is on it, but its their big dog 4WD truck. Probably a better comparison to your vette. Also what exactly is the difference between what you call a "nim" which I assume you mean NiMH which means Nickel Metal Hydride? Did you maybe mean to say it originally had a NiCd?
Yes… you are correct. Meant to say NiCd that this ran on….back in the day. I used in a NiMh though when I ran it. It has those white Tamiya connectors and was running modern ESC inside.
I had lobo truck, and the buggy. Also tyco bandit truck. 9.7 or 9.8. buddy had hi rider vette. Like raider red arr black was nice. Double dare was nice.
Lol I love it , if it had a driver he would indeed need a kidney belt.ive been wanting to get a lobo ll buggy which was my first semi good RC had a lot of fun with it until the Blackfoot came along 😏
I forgot what scale that is cuz I had a 114th scale or 1/12 scale car that looks similar to it that was a monster truck and did 12 miles an hour. And it was from Nikko I loved my nikkos they were my favorite toy brand.
My 3rd toy rc car was nikko adventure. Its same as big bubba but diffirent body. I drive alot with the car. It was 4wd and fun to drive over big stones and stuff. i still have it.
This was my first R/C as a child. It was the blue Sears Lobo model. Remember driving it through snow in the winter, etc. Never broke down.
Seems pretty indestructible to me. We were thinking about blowing it up after. Might revisit that idea in the Spring lol...

Bro same here .. this truck was epic 💯💪🏿
Had the red one back in the day enjoyed it..
Your camera girl was adorable, and her camera work made me chuckle!

LOL... I benefited both ways.. Got someone to film and got to eat KFC... next time maybe Taco Bell....
Fun fact; lobo means "Wolf" in Spanish. Ford actually names thier F150 "LOBO" in Mexico
That is an interesting fact. Thanks for sharing.

I loved this RC. Me and my bro had one of each. It remember it being almost too heavy to pickup. 😂

I had one of these with the black body....drove the living hell out of it until I got a Big Boss in 1989 and never drove the Bubba again
This was my first rc car as a boy! I broke the blower off and my dad covered the hole with an awesome holographic bunny sticker. I realized years later it was a playboy bunny LOL
Thats great! LOL...
Iol how cool is that little truck!
it's laughably bouncy.really like those following around shots from the back
I had a Big Bubba, it was so bad I returned it to the store.
I bought a black phantom as an adult because I had one as a kid.
Hi, thanks so much for this video 🙂 I have this one, but without remote control. Do you have any idea where I can get one or how to replace it?? 🙃
I see a rematch in the future maybe? Those tires held on, they are looking pretty good still. You go get that KFC
I love KFC.. Chicken Littles or the spicy chicken sandwich... Taco Bell next time lol...
I got a Big Bubba for Xmas around 1987-88. I asked for a Grasshopper but my father buy me that instead. I had a lot of run with it until it got wet and stopped running for good.
I had the Lil' Bubba truck! My friend had the Big Bubba!
That's so funny I had some same experience I got beat by the big bubba and after I got the lunch box and put a hornet pinion gear on it in a drag race no in naborhood could beat me lol
I hope you fix it I wanted to see it run on the track.
I had one in 1990...loved it
Great video, nostalgia is where it's at! btw you're a great dad.. now I need kfc.
You should do a race with it.
Its often something wrong with your Mic. Like is will blow up any time😬 Cool car btw😄🏁
IDK... When editing I bring the volume all the way down. What kind of device are you watching the videos on?

I had that truck!! I had the Sears Lobo version.
There appeared to be a few versions of this truck. Pretty cool little thing.
I had a scorpion as a kid...charge it overnight to run it for 20 minutes then wait until the next day to run it for 20 minutes again

Hey I’ve got one but lost the control. How do I find out what frequency it runs on?
Not sure. I opened mine up and put in a tamiya speed control and radio link receiver to use one of my own remotes.
Had one of these about 89-90, bitter sweet, couldn't afford hobby grade, crazy i was also in 7th grade
200 episodes in.... still messes up battery names
Cant wait for you to make a video so that I can nit pick all day long...

I'm pretty sure that's the same one I used to have , it was four wheel drive but I took the driveshaft out of it and it went much faster
So is the big bubba 4 wheel drive truly and thats cool about to be able to upgrade it to hobbie grade

how the hell did that beat the hi rider? 😆
