I never married or had kids. I was diagnosed with bad scoliosis as a teenager (I was denied entry into the military). After 35 years of grinding it out at work I am physically beaten. I haven't slept all night in years. I can't do much other than sit and walk around and repeat. Life isn't much fun. I finally got to a point where I might be able to see light at the end of the tunnel and the government watered down my savings about 40 percent so others can have an easier time of it. My advice is to not save too much. Spend some, or someone else will.

I've told their mom that she's 100% responsible for their financial well-being and I intend to tell the kids (when they're 18) that I gave their mother $330,000 and I have no idea where all that money went.

My dad is the reason why I don't want kids. He had to pay child support for a child that was never 100% proven was his. Me and my siblings suffered as a result. Things did eventually get better. But a couple years ago he told me that if he hadn't had us, he would have either disappeared off the map or ended himself. I interpreted that as family and kids are a weakness. They limit your options when times are tough. I don't want to give anyone any power over me. A wife and kids it's just an angle that people in power can exploit.

The issue is that you as a man, have time; whereas your wife doesn't, in terms of biology.
Ideally, you'd want all the kids out before she turns over 32 years old, for the health and wellbeing of both her and the child.
Perhaps, it is a better reason why the age gap makes sense, as the man has the time to establish himself; while the woman is much younger and fertile.

Your children are the only ones who will care for you in your old age. If you raise them well and with good values, supported by YOUR actions and behaviour , they will take care of you as they have unconditional love.
Leave it to the government to take care of you, well, that’s what we call MAiD where I’m from.
I regret not having children, there was never a right time, I never had enough money, I worked too hard, I wanted to travel… my sister never had money, always moved, but she had two kids despite having a disruptive lifestyle. She is now a grandma and both her kids are doing really well, and she’s doing pretty good herself.

Having children is the greatest joy imaginable it's as if the secrets of the universe are suddenly revealed to you. Yes, it comes with sacrifice and challenges but there is nothing more satisfying then becoming a parent.

@michaelhollandsworth6599 What are you scared of? Its my personal experience as a parent and my husband would agree. Afraid of loving something more then yourself? Afraid of receiving the unconditional love of a child? Afraid of the responsibility? Stop being afraid and live courageously.

If your kids aren't teenagers I'd reccomend not celebrating victory in the middle of the race. The second their mother decides that your involvement isn't necessarily she has the power to rip that joy from your life and you won't be able to do shit about it.

Don't allow evil to dictate your life's path.
      The Wolf You Feed
One evening an old Cherokee told his
grandson about a battle that goes on
      inside people
He said, "My son, the battle is between
      two "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy,
      sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity,
      guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false
      pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good. It is joy, peace, love,
      hope, serenity, humility, kindness
      benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth,
      compassion and faith.
The grandson thought about it for a
minute and then asked his grandfather:
      "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one
      you feed."
