After a few listens, “My heart will never beat the same”, to me at least, that wording evokes the idea that Alastor will never see eye to eye with Charlie’s ideals of redemption, willfully though. It’s to say, “my heart will never be so free or naive, to see any ending where redemption is possible, and I won’t let it think otherwise.” It’s him yelling at her, “you can’t help me, and you can’t save everyone!” In every tale that Charlie could tell him about everything ending in sunshine and rainbows for him, and every story where he puts in the effort to change; they all read the same to him…Alastor’s like the one character in a JRPG that dies. No matter how many different choices you make on your save file, you can’t save him. He’s resigned to his fate. However, one thing that the first season never touched on is what lead most of the sinners TO sin. What would have lead him to be resigned to this? Nihilism always has a catalyst. I know some people are just born bad, but 9/10 times, something happens as the catalyst for their gradual descent. We’ve loosely be told that Alastor was a serial killer in life, and while his story could go either way, I imagine we’ll eventually learn some tragic upbringing that started him on this path to kill. Redemption can’t happen without addressing what went wrong, so the only way Alastor or any of the sinners will even see themselves as being worthy of redemption (for it to even be realistic), they’ll need to confront their inner demons.
I’m glad to see this song get reacted to, I had hoped you guys got to the Dreamworks Villain Cypher but I’m glad you reacted to this song as well, Fabvl knows how to deliver perfectly
