My Husband and I are here now and yes the sand is gone. Of Course, But it is still an amazing place. The Big Island is a true treasure. So happy to be spending our 40th Anniversary here for two weeks! From Florida took a whole day to get here. But it's worth it!
Congratulations! My wife will be celebrating our 20th! Coming from Michigan. Going to be a long haul but I believe it'll be worth every minute! Mahalo!
I spoke with a lifeguard at Magics who has lived here a long time and he said the sand will definitely come back. My understanding is that we recently entered the El Nino season, which brings warmer surface water resulting in higher than normal surf and hurricanes, after the last several years of La Nina, which was the opposite. Obviously we’ve been seeing some kick arse surf throughout Hawaii. If you like to surf, it ain’t too bad.
Love your videos i live on great lakes on the worlds longest freshwater beach and this is a normal event here too entire beaches vanish and reappear. Water levels here are bipolar and can pull tricks on you.
Headed to Kona tomorrow. Go every year for the last 18 years. Skipped the Covid year. Always interesting to see the changes year to year. Some good….some not so good. Aloha
Same thing happened on this beach in December of 2022... I come to Big Island every year, since 1996, not even Covid could stop me! Now, if somebody could get their act together and actually repair Hapuna's water main, that would be nice.
so .is this near Puako? I have memory loss...thought I knew Big I, having lived in every part of it .but for N. Kohala..Kamuela yes but never N of Waimea town proper.
Once again awesome video! Thanks guys! One thing we all should realize no matter where you're at on our beloved planet is that Mother Nature rules all.....we're just renting our time here. Ya never know what you're gonna get....and that makes it even more fun!
Been on black beach yrs ago. Love big island. Contrash. Sky water. Volcano rock. Gorgeous flowers. Breathtaking. Lived in Honolulu. Should have. Stayed. / Lived here. Went bk to FL. Think now about. Going there. Or carribean to live in my retired yrs now. Was a small beach. Sand. Sharp/rocky black then.
Thank you foe the update. We're a family w small children and originally thought we would go to Kua bay during our time in big island later this month. It looks like we have to find a different spot then.
From Kailua beach on oahu. Our beach is gone. Born and raised. Tourism fucked it all up since early 2000,s. Sickening what they have done to our precious beaches. And no one seems to notice or care. Fuck tourism!!!!
This happens every year lol and it's not the only place on island this occurs. (Magic sands in Kona is a prime example) usually this happens after big surf and high winds - both of which are common for this time of year along the Kona coast. I miss when you could only get there with an off road vehicle and some guts. RIP Kua Bay. Another one lost to tourism
We love your channel and do own a home on the big island, but now we want to sell our place. Of all the flat fee realty companies offering service on the big island, who would you say has the best program? Thanks.........
Are you sure that sand wasn't man placed????????????? Probably blown over from being man placed at the Four Seasons. The surf has been very high this year...hence the boulders.
Right on, give Kua Bay a rest. Let Mother Nature do her thing. It will return and so will the people. It will be awhile. Thank you
Exactly.

Nothing more powerful than Mother Nature! Thanks for showing us.
A black hole

Super high waves when we were there in January. Hapuna beach had strong rip tides. Thank you for the updates
We have had some incredible surf over the past few months!
Really fun video! I've never seen the sand go that far away 😳 every beach has been hit hard! Definitely a wild and cold winter! 🥶
Love your videos i live on great lakes on the worlds longest freshwater beach and this is a normal event here too entire beaches vanish and reappear. Water levels here are bipolar and can pull tricks on you.
I did not know that lakes have the same experience! Thanks for sharing!
This has a lot to do with El Niño which moves winter storms to the East; hence, big waves from the WNW which hit the Kohala Coast directly.
Thx for sharing. Hope the ocean will return those sand
I hope so too
It will 😎🤙
Omg I've never seen Kua bay like that!!! That's crazy... I've only seen La'Aloa Beach park like that (Magic sands)

Wow. I have clips from 2109 and 2020 with that beach full of sand 😮
Aloha from Ocean View

There was a small cove near south point now its just white coral
Once again awesome video! Thanks guys!

Happens every year. Nothing new. The sand comes back. It's nice to give the beach a break.
I’m going in August this year. Do you think the sand will be back?
Thank you foe the update. We're a family w small children and originally thought we would go to Kua bay during our time in big island later this month. It looks like we have to find a different spot then.
Thanks for covering this. All the islands are just getting a beating. Mauna Kea Beach, not looking great either. Aloha

Didn't have that much sand to start with.. it will come back

Again....all sand placed there
Click bait. Kua has ALWAYS done this!
All sand gone = property values declining
So dump somemore
Who cares it will come back and who needs sand. Go surfing and fishing
