Man, I have been playing guitar for 23 years now and after watching you play this song, I want to trade in my guitars, and start playing drums. Your amazing Brother..Keep it up!!,
Awesome my brother! :0) from a fellow Christian drummer who grew up with Stryper, Petra, Norman, etc. Playing the skins myself for around 40 years now..... God had blessed ya, becareful to never take the Glory... continue to give Him the praise and you can never go wrong :0) Let us all continue to examine ourselves to see that we are still in the faith.... It is a fight, let us continue to fight on our knees inquiring of the Lords battle plan :0) Christ's Blessings!
When Soldiers Under Command first came out I was Stryper CRAZY!!! I love that album, and still listen to it. It never fails to put me in a good mood. You did a great job playing it. Robert Sweet would approve!!
I remember sitting in a theatre in Pasadena, CA in the mid-eighties watching Stryper rehearse. I was sitting next to Oz Fox listening to Michael Sweet sing & meantioned that I could sing. He called my bluff & offered to let me get up there & show him. I simply said "Not like that." and remained in my seat.
Excellent job!Rock on!!Loved it.That was one of my fav. songs in the mid 80's.Was lucky enough to see them perform @ the Felt Forum at Madison Garden, maybe La'mours, also in NJ where I still have the bible I got that they threw from stage (must have been 30 rows back) and once in Houston.Seeing their 2 videos on U68 'power hour' in NYC, "you know what to do" and "soldiers under command" got me hooked initially. WSOU also played them then.Good stuff.Nice memories. Great job! Really great job!
Awesome job! Our drum kits looks exactly like the same set up. I too grew up with Stryper. I saw them in 1983 out at Magic Mountain in Southern Cali. I love to drum to their songs. I even added the chains to my kit like Robert used back in the day. Keep rocking guy :)
Love all the symbols. Just got my beginner set. lol. 38 years old and started playing over a year ago. took 30 years just to get the hand foot cooridnation down. Love this song. Always. Great job.
Wow dude, I started listening to Stryper when this album came out. I was skeptical when I saw what u were gonna do, but man YOU NAILED IT. God bless. *keep on rockin' for the rock*
Wow.... That's just amazing!!! Stryper...they were either loved or loathed, but they had some catchy tunes, hard beats. I remember when TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL came out...and listening to that album now is like listening to a classic (and nostalgic, too). Thanks for posting, friend! ~Sean aka Spitfire
Isn't it amazing that God gave you your talent to play that song... I listen to all music and whether it's religous or not music is universal...Good work.....
great job!!!,i grew up with stryper, yellow and black attack, etc. they never got enough credit!,great band !, keep on rockin!

mannnn.. i played drummer once in acamp of my church!!! and was Stryper!!!! they are the best white rock!!! STRYPER IS THE BEST!!!! KEEP ROCKIN' FOR JESUS
hahahahaha guuaaaauuuu nice bro,now you got a fan from Yucatan Mexico, what a way to play... excellent every beat just right on time, wow, you got the talent,God bless you,i will be looking for more videos of you, congratulations
Dude! Thank you! Just watched some of your vids and you ROCK man. You are a great drummer. I like your feel and groove-ability! Keep it up. The music with your band was very good in my opinion.
Great job man. Nice to see a drummer thats so fluent and relaxed, but not to much so that it takes the dynamics out of their playing. You follow the artists/drummers song and dont go off into your own world overplaying all over the place. Overplay is overkill and overkill is overplay. Time and a place for everything. Thanks for sharing and many Blessings to you and yours ~ Blaise ~
Had to come back and listen to this Glen! I wish I could jam with you brother! Hope all is good with you. Looking forward to anything new, maybe some Kings- x?
Man, that was so sick, I think you did a fill or two that wasn't even on the original version that was amazing! If Robert ever gets sick on tour, you should be his replacement.
I grew up when Stryper was BIG! I am not religious, I am not sure if I believe in God, I have my Issues with him if he is..... But I Remember Stryper and I liked some of there tunes, and this being one of them and dude you rocked!! that Man!! better late comment than never Lol....
Wow. You rock! And so does Styper! And nice set, by the way. I have always dreamed that I could be a drummer but my arm is kind of wrecked so I can't play drums at all.
man all those paistes looks like you have some sound formulas in there...i sure miss mine best crash i ever ever had was a 18inch sound formula reflector thin crash wish they still made them or i could find them i would buy them all up nice playing bro..God Bless Tim
Sweet dude!! (no pun intended) that was alot of fun to watch. All you need is long hair and crazy hats like Robert. He ever think of doing "Shining Star" from "Against the Law"? That would be fun to see you pound out! Keep em coming...& Rock On!
Thank you very much! But I just want everyone to know that I post videos out of respect for the band/drummer I am paying tribute to. It is in no way meant to be a competition. Robert Sweet is one of the best rock drummers in the world and I would never compare myself to him. He is a pioneer and an excellent drummer.
I used to play this, (on bass) in one of my first bands. It was a very fun song to do especially with two good guitarists harmonizing. This was like...84?
Burning Flame is a Japanese telecast from 1988 I believe. It was taped at the Budokan arena. I think all the songs are on RUclips. Do a search a search for stryper burning flame.
Glen, you rock. As a drummer and a huge Stryper fan people don't realize that Robert plays "simple yet complicated" stuff. And who cares if gspot is your name. Married people can have lots o fun. :) Appreciate the Malmsteen and DT stuff too. Now, how about Tom Sawyer or Red Barchetta? You can do it! (BTW, huge paiste fan too, hated zildjian except for ride once in blue moon)
I heard a few very small mistakes, BUT I admit it-not only do you have a great drum set (which I'd just about DIE to have), but you possess an absolutely MASSIVE amount of talent!!! That was a great touch there close to the end, where you really double-timed the beat on your floor basses. The only real difference between us is that you play right-handed, whereas I'm one of those crazy ol' lefties! Have a great one there, bud!!!
I'm just curious-have you ever watched the Stryper video Always there for you? If you have, you noticed that, apparently, Robert Sweet plays right and left handed. He has his drumset set up that way in the video. It's very cool stuff! Just wondered if you saw that video? Now-when I first started playing drums myself, I started out right handed. It's somewhat limiting, though, because as use it throws my equilibrium off somewhat, & I can't do certain things right handed that I can do left handed. Ahhh... the eccentricities of the human body...have a great one!!!
Ron Shank Yeah. In that video, his kit was still in the experimental stage for the In God We Trust tour. When they went on tour, the 2nd kit was set up with a ride on the right side, so he was actually playing it right handed. Now THAT was an awesome kit!
Ahhh.....those were the days! Strangely, though, although their previous album, to hell with the Devil, went multi-platinum, In God We Trust stalled at about 890,000 copies sold. I still don't know if that album ever reached platinum status. Against The Law (1990), had a very hard time even going Gold (500,000) copies sold. Less than 2 years later, Stryper split up. Until 2003. They've released albums since then, but their impact nowadays is far less than 25-30 years ago.
Man,
I have been playing guitar for 23 years now and after watching you play this song, I want to trade in my guitars, and start playing drums.
Your amazing Brother..Keep it up!!,
far out glen that was a most awesome set totally amazeing u blew me away and yes fight the good fight towards the light ....amen
Thank you James!
Awesome my brother! :0) from a fellow Christian drummer who grew up with Stryper, Petra, Norman, etc. Playing the skins myself for around 40 years now..... This never gets old! Great song, and great drumming. Your rig sounds awesome for a web video, and the camera angle is spot on.
i watch this over and over, absolutely love this video, fabulous job!! added to my favorites!!
I saw Stryper in concert - great times. GREAT JOB
Very cool indeed. I've been following Stryper since 1986. You have the fills and breaks down perfectly. Great job!
When Soldiers Under Command first came out I was Stryper CRAZY!!! I love that album, and still listen to it. It never fails to put me in a good mood. You did a great job playing it. Robert Sweet would approve!!

I simply said "Not like that." and remained in my seat.
Wow!! Thanks man! I really wish I could devote all my time to drumming and being in a band. Thank you again!
This video rocks!! Great job on the drum playing. Best I've ever seen, besides their drum player. I LOVE Stryper!
great man.....awesome playing. Watching Robert play the drums was inspiring to me in my youth as well. Great Job.
Because I like having a lot of options and yes, I can hear the difference and so can other drummers. But really, it's what makes me happy.
All these years later, this is still my favorite cover of this song.
Check out my newest stuff. Thank you again!
Wow! After all these years!
I grew up listening to Stryper too! One of the coolest band ever! Great job man!
Awesome job! Our drum kits looks exactly like the same set up. I too grew up with Stryper. I saw them in 1983 out at Magic Mountain in Southern Cali. I love to drum to their songs. I even added the chains to my kit like Robert used back in the day. Keep rocking guy :)

dude from a guitar point of view , i have never seen better!!!!! rock on!~!!!!!
I like the double bass improv at the end! Excellent vid! I wish I had an isolated track of you on drums to jam with.

Very Nice! It's nice to see that some people still have real drum sets instead of the watered down 4 piece sets.
i LOVE the tone of your toms! nice vid

Thanks Ron! I am actually left handed, I just learned to play as a righty. Thanks for your kind words!
