Tamiyo and emry, sure but urza doesn’t really draw cards if you are activating the ability you probably aren’t winning in the moment. Basim also just damaged people as well as drawing.
10:12 spike, I love you brother, but they did try to create a looting replacement, and quite a few. Salvaging, mending, highway robbery, thrilling discovery... They tried over and over to give us a "tuned" looting and nothing cut it
As Spike has said in the past, these cards are weaker than Faithless Salvaging. Faithless Looting is worlds better than Faithless Salvaging, which is the next best option, and they had the option to print a card in between these power levels and chose not to. Suggested card when he talked about it was one mana draw discard, flashback for two.
@dumbledalfthewizard9486 the thing is, we can conclude based on the cards wotc produced as possible replacements that they thought two mana was the appropriate adjustment to tune looting. They even gave us actual looting that gained life at instant speed (mending) in an attempt to push their two mana solution to the desired power level. Could they have tried a one mana solution? Sure, and it likely would have gone through the same iterative cycle as its two mana predecessors. But to say that wotc "didn't even try" when we have years of card design that produced multiple failed attempts is disingenuous. It may not have fit spike's criteria for what he considered a "real attempt," but he should at least give them credit for the effort they very clearly made
@@manythanks2 I just think it's disingenuous to say "they didn't even try" when they very clearly did. And they thought that two mana was an appropriate tweak for the effect. Could they have gone for a one mana option? Sure, but that doesn't mean you get to say they "made no effort" when it takes years to design and produce cards and they made several failed attempts at their desired looting replacement
Not likely more powerful than the artifact-oriented alternatives. Thought Monitor and Cannoneer are so stupidly powerful that cards like Arcbound Ravager are just too mopey by comparison.
I don’t think it’s a conspiracy it’s a pretty clear back up for the one ring losing value .tbh I do not care do what u gotta do but who’s radar was mox opal on ? Absolutely no one . Also they probably will reprint it now if it doesn’t get banned in a masters set or something which will be a good reprint that’s not bad
Naw they don't need to do that, some other card will always be chase and sell packs. They just did a big ban of a $400 playset out of 60% or decks so some big splashy unbans are just the chaser to help everyone forget the -$400 they are now
This is the deck I was most excited for when they announced the unbannings
Tamiyo, Basim, Emry, Urza, only 16 cards that are basically there to just draw more cards. What could go wrong
Tamiyo and emry, sure but urza doesn’t really draw cards if you are activating the ability you probably aren’t winning in the moment. Basim also just damaged people as well as drawing.
Multiple of these cards win the game and multiple help your fast mana function.
???????? Tamiyo bring back cards, Basim is unblockable, Emry is recursion, Urza is enormous mana
Emry doesn't do much else but create card advantage.
The rest are win conditions...
Have you seen the deck?? It has 10 free spells

1 mana with graveyard synergy like flashback or Jumpstart is likely what he means
They could have also tried to reprint careful study (or colorshift it)

Why not try old thopter combo
Do you think traditional affinity (circa 2018) would have legs in the meta?

Can we swap 4 Basim for 4 Opt and 1 or 2 Search for Azcanta?
Than the MAmber won't be on as much
Any vids / stream decks involving simulacrum synthesiser and opal?
Soon :)

Salam brother and sister happy new 2025 modern
he keeps saying they didnt try to design a next best thing to faithless looting but thats exactly what faithful mending was trying to be....
basim itself looked good here tbh i just think it needs more tuning
Does spuke have kids? That 'its fine to have fun' was gotal dad voice
Dealing with the average chatter conditions you to the task of hadling children
How dare you call him spuke
tommy-O
My conspiracy theory is that they'll reprint mox opal in 2025 and that's why they unbanned it!
I'm hopping they do a Modern Masters Set so we can get things reprinted like Splinter Twin, Mox Opal and Green Sun's Zenith.
This isnt some conspiracy lmao. They do this whenever they do an unban. Jace and Bloodbraid Elf both got big reprints immediately after unbans
You mean in Aetherdrift coming out in Feb that is artifact themed??? Like that?

Magic players so abused they don’t even realize that the game is supposed to be entertaining and fun.
