Best performance I've ever seen. Beethoven's tempo, the right order of seating, period timpani and trumpets evoking the revolutionary feeling around 1800. And a smiling conductor who exactly knows how much freedom to give to the players.
I disagree about Beethoven's tempo. He clearly makes 2 diferent tempos at the very beggining wich is not written... Great performance, but, as we can see on the DW series about this project, there was no intention on making it the usual way.
+brian brunner My thoughts precisely as I listened to this whole series yesterday, and started it over again today. I've heard Beethoven under all of the great conductors, but never have I seen an orchestra so "into" the music. They play with an intensity and enjoyment rarely seen. Paavo Jarvi, himself, is as if he becomes the music. Can I explain it from a technical or even musical sense? Absolutely not. I know nothing of music other than what I hear and love. This takes the love of music up a notch or two for me.
I agree with you. And it does not discredit the initial statement. It explains the passion. Maybe partially. The other part maybe the love of the music they make. Beethovens' symphonies - brilliant!
@@jerrycallison6125 Same here. I have a subscriptions to the digital concert hall by the berlin philharmonic. They play this also under Järvi in one concert, but it's not the same. The energy is not the same. They are not completely "on board" with the conductor as the JKB is here. Your comment is a reminder for me of why I want to do music, why it's important to always give a 100%, and that if it's not with and out of pure love, then what for? Yes, yes, yes, the audience can and will tell the difference.
Heavy metal fans, believe it or not, are so because they look for the kinds of things lacking in vanilla pop music, and find it in Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, et.al....check out Johann Strauss too while you're at it! :)
I have been listening to Daniel Barenboim lead the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra do this symphony for a very long time, at least once a week. Then today POOF it was gone from RUclips, no longer available. I tried listening to the Thielemann version and as usual Thielmann is no joy to watch, he is just so full of himself. Also there are also ads in Thielmann's version, WTF! I loved watching Maestro Barenboim lead his symphony, you could see his caring for its members. Maestro Jarvi seems to be cut from the same cloth as conductor DB, his love of the music, the respect he shows his orchestra. He looks to be having fun leading his musicians. Maestro Jarvi is a true joy to watch and the music is great, after all it is Beethoven! Thanks deepnosepicker for posting.
I'm studying orchestration. When listening to the performance, it not only skillfully expresses the power of music, but also the technique of edited images is excellent, and which instrument is played and how it is played along with the progress of the orchestra. well understood. Thank you very much.
Brilliantly nuanced interpretation. Especially the last movement! Quite a tempo he set there. I remember I watched one of these Jarvi/DKB/Beethoven videos a few months ago and I wasn't too impressed, but this 1st symphony is truly a great performance. Beautiful!
Seeing the close ups of the musicians and conductor's facial expressions together with the music and that roving crain camera turn it into a theatrical rather than just a audio experience !
this beautiful music has put my kitten shocks to sleep, wow, so calming, it worked almost immeadiatly, his amazing smile as he slept, deserved a comment on your video, lots of love best wishes and positive vibes, djprecious x thank you, i do now certainly, kind of miss him, running around already, such powerful music, such powerful vibes, wow, im amazed, and fascinated, absolutly brilliant quality, , take care keep up the fantastic work, Parmjit.
I agree. It's hard to understand why some listeners would prefer to listen to this at .75 full speed! But then I'm an old guy who first heard this back in the mid-60s following a music appreciation class I took. Old-fashioned, ya might say?
I know this is cliche, but his genius has far outreached so much evil the world has seen, And I think whatever you want to call God helped him write the 9th after he became deaf, a tragic irony. thank you for creating the collection,
It's true! Beethoven crammed feathers between his fingers so he could write all parts at once and actually wrote in this tempo! So Karajan plays the music slower than Beethoven took to write it down.
Give me a Furtwängler anytime sooner then later.
18:55 cellos (I think its cellos) play this "pam pam pam pam pam pam" (six notes ascending), I have heard the same 6 notes pattern in some other Beethoven (or maybe not?) piece, but dont remember where exactly, if somebody knows where it appears, please share. Only difference was that the rhytym was "pam pam pam paaa pa pam".
Master Jarvi is by far, better than Barenboim in this symphony. Barenboim loves himself so much and forgets Beethoven. On contrary, Master Jarvi brings and keeps the spirit of Beethoven.
Barenboim had to make his steps to Proms, which is a wonderful `end-point` of something as well, as it happens in music sometimes. Small orchestras in Bremen are the opposite of, what big stages always will offer: Large orchestras :) Whatch Järvi with the Berlin Philharmonics (after his Beethoven-project with Bremen)... The dilemma returns: It`s not the same as with Bremen. It can`t. Because jumping out of a smile ? Conduct Bremen for such a dynamic eruption. Barenboim can`t be blamed or `scaled down` for this. But he really should drive to Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and work with them, when it`s about Beethoven. In case he would: Any comparison not necessary between Masters. Barenboim `first` here, Järvi `first` there. I never would wish to miss them... both.
I would think that these are all personal preferences of the conductor. Some prefer it to be slighter faster to make the music more lively? Others might focus on the intricacies and ornaments present in the music. Most of the time it's also a combination of their interpretation and their understanding of what the composers want.
nice to have a performance that doesn't drag the work out to extravagant lengths, as seems to be the norm in modern performances of Beethoven, Mozart, etc;
Why does the conductor observe the repeat of the first part of the menuet but not the second part, after trio / at 'da capo' repeat? For sake of consistency one would expect him to either observe repeats of both sections (a la Harnoncourt in Haydn and Mozart) or none of them (the old school way). This way it sounds weird. At a recent performance of Berlin Phil. Academy same thing has happened. Is this some new authentic approach?
why is there no symphony #9 here? You have two #1s, but no #9? I refer to the "Beethoven Symphonies All 1 - 9". I do know that deepnosepicker has the 9th on RUclips, just not in this list in quotes above.
He's the only conductor who can give me goosebumps in the last movement. DKB really gives it everything they've got.
I love the Jarvi conducting. He has his uniqe style and his Bethooven interpertation are beatiful.
Best performance I've ever seen. Beethoven's tempo, the right order of seating, period timpani and trumpets evoking the revolutionary feeling around 1800. And a smiling conductor who exactly knows how much freedom to give to the players.
I couldn't agree more!
I disagree about Beethoven's tempo. He clearly makes 2 diferent tempos at the very beggining wich is not written... Great performance, but, as we can see on the DW series about this project, there was no intention on making it the usual way.
You sure know a lot about music :)
@Bruno56
WTF you talkin' about.
Dang this whole orchestra is lively! No dull faces just sawing away at their instruments!

It's (to me) the difference between people who are excellent musicians and people who have an intense passion with the music itself.
Jarvi's energy and immersion in the music is why I love watching him conduct.
I agree with you. And it does not discredit the initial statement. It explains the passion. Maybe partially. The other part maybe the love of the music they make. Beethovens' symphonies - brilliant!

Excellent conductor!! His facial expressions match the mood of the piece exactly.
Amazing, nothing is more magical than an orchestra
Very clean performance of this youthful masterpiece with fairly fast tempi. Truly awesome conductor!
It's impressive just how clean all the scales in the strings are. They're inhumanly tight, it's amazing.
excelent conductor, superb orquestra, magnificent composition
What a magnificent interpretation! Never enjoyed so much this fantastic symphony. Thank you!
Brilliant performance - full of live and energy and performed with such enthusiasm.
i love heavy metal and this
Heavy metal fans, believe it or not, are so because they look for the kinds of things lacking in vanilla pop music, and find it in Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, et.al....check out Johann Strauss too while you're at it! :)
this is heavy metal of 1700s
Johann Strauss wtf try Schoenberg
its me
Try Shostakovich 8th string quartet... You won't regret
Love to the giant in front as to all those masters acting... around him.
Life is wonderful.

Western Eastern Divan is good for amateur student orchestra but still a bunch of kid amateurs.
Beethovon's music plus a good conductor - good combination!
The music is beyond any criticism; but I must praise the videography. Such a lovely yet elegant presentation.
Amazing perfomance.. 10/10!
Jarvi conducted Beethoven's masterpiece with excellent stability
kon ko,
yes, great stability at 78 rpm.

everything jarvi touches glows...
This is what Beethoven should sound like. A small dose of madness.
Brilliantly nuanced interpretation. Especially the last movement! Quite a tempo he set there. I remember I watched one of these Jarvi/DKB/Beethoven videos a few months ago and I wasn't too impressed, but this 1st symphony is truly a great performance. Beautiful!
Indeed: maestro Jarvi is a breath of fresh air.
THANK YOU! This is pure beauty
Not to disparage Karajan's majestic Beethoven cycles of the 60s-80s...but you hear EVERYTHING in this one! Bravo rhymes with Paavo!
8:13 a very basic comparison, I know, but this is almost identical to the ending of the fifth symphony and I love it.
Deserves a lot more likes than Any Othrr song!!! Brilliant music created, arranged, and played... Hats off geniuses...😊😊😊

This is a fantastic performance by a great orchestra
Great
Beethoven feeling, Beethoven speed and articulation all over. A fantastic achievement, the whole cycle!
Great conductor, phantastic Performance!
I agree. It's hard to understand why some listeners would prefer to listen to this at .75 full speed! But then I'm an old guy who first heard this back in the mid-60s following a music appreciation class I took. Old-fashioned, ya might say?
great music a great relief for pop music
I know this is cliche, but his genius has far outreached so much evil the world has seen, And I think whatever you want to call God helped him write the 9th after he became deaf, a tragic irony. thank you for creating the collection,
Maybe things would have been more straightforward if God had stopped him going deaf in the first place.
gonna be playing this in orchestra! :)
bravo, very good performance, he got all the sforzando right.
Powerful ... great interpretation
+Kamal Kapur
But the 2nd movement could have been slower
I love it I didn't even realize that this music was in the 80's
love this music my grandma listens to it every day she has alzheimers thank you deepnosepicker for uploading this
IV is at 18:15
best Cinematography!
Hats off to them, I would die if I have to play it this fast!!
Thank you so much
very nice
23:27 - 23:30 perfect timpani :D
With your permission, I will put the video on my phone
Jarvi and the DKB play great Beethoven!
...THIS IS AWESOME...
Magnífico 👏👏👏👏
18:15 for the finale.
Love how this was blocked for some reason. It isn't now. Why 480p. With all the.. well everything. New director.
The radicalism of Beethoven emerges when we simply play what he wrote (especially the accents).
+MikeDrewYT I will quote this.
It's true! Beethoven crammed feathers between his fingers so he could write all parts at once and actually wrote in this tempo! So Karajan plays the music slower than Beethoven took to write it down.
رائعة really pure beauty
Did I just see one of the actors from Immortal Beloved in the orchestra? 21:18
Very nice !
Hard really to be a pessimist listening to this

Jurmagui1,
So! That's what was missing from my observation of Barenhoin. The psychonarcicistic angle of his personality. Thanks for your observation.
Barenboim had to make his steps to Proms, which is a wonderful `end-point` of something as well, as it happens in music sometimes.
Small orchestras in Bremen are the opposite of, what big stages always will offer: Large orchestras :)

Barenboim is one of many famous conductors who usually make the music more about himself than the composer. The list is too long to name.
Bravo !
From 18:48 = the concluding chorus in Handel’s ‘Ariodante’ 🤓
Pavo Jarvi is really one of the best conductors ever! My personal opinion. Most cunduct the 1rst movement much to slow!
Ausgezeichnet!
I randomly felt to checking it out, someone had made the whole playlist of same artists playing till 8th but why not 9th is there?
You must recheck, I got the 9th right here too.
Pure joy

Muito bom
II. Andante cantabile con moto is played faster than any other conductor's which I ve seen.
nice to have a performance that doesn't drag the work out to extravagant lengths, as seems to be the norm in modern performances of Beethoven, Mozart, etc;
bro the playlist contain no 9 and 2 1
Amen 🙏🏻
de very besssst !
It's a perfect
Stunning performance, as is usually the case with Jarvi. However, the camera director should take some downers.
18:20 Finale
Which symphony is back that azz up

I CALL FOR REPENTANCE, SEEK AND BELIEVE IN THE LIVING GOD WHO FORMED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH
I am going to rank all 8 of these ngl.
Beethoven started going deaf in his 30s.he knew what notes he was playing taking a stick and putting it on the piano and heard the vibrations.
il quarto movimento inizia a 18:15
Magnifico.......isso é Beethoven !!!!
why is there no symphony #9 here? You have two #1s, but no #9? I refer to the "Beethoven Symphonies All 1 - 9". I do know that deepnosepicker has the 9th on RUclips, just not in this list in quotes above.

Better this or Zinman with Tonhalle orchestra Zurich?
Alguém sabe me dizer qual a melhor ?
Thanks sharing, they are good pieces but..... it seems that you have mis uploaded Symphony 1 for two time but forget the 9th?
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
now we can see music, not only listen
