  • this video existe in short version too )
    Tutorial :
After having created some proposition for a bridge, we need to create BIM shop drawing of the bridge.
    1. Create a bridge following this article : Infrastructure-Transportation-Designing a parametric BIM bridge
    2. Adjust the start and the end of the bridge
    3. Adjust each span
    4. Adjust parameter of gemetry with Infraworks
    1. Abutments
    2. Bearings
    3. Decks
    4. Fondations
    5. Griders
    6. Piers
    5. If you need more detail you could create your own parametric component with Inventor.
    1. Open the Style Palette in Infraworks
    2. Choose your parametric Models you have to tune
    3. Copy the Inventor file
    4. Modified the Parametric component in Inventor
    5. Use Infrastructure Part Shape Utilities (IPSU) to Export Template
    6. Save the Inventor file
    7. In the Infraworks Style Palette import the IPSU File
    8. Define:
    1. Assign Domain,
    2. Component type
    3. Part Sizes
    4. UI Appearance
    5. Validate with OK
    6. Assign the parametric component to the Bridge
    7. you need more detail you could create your own parametric component in Decoration with Inventor and assign it to the Bridge .
    8. Then you will send the Bridge to Revit
    9. Note the N/S & E/W value of the Project Base Point
    10. Create a Revit file without template and create a column in this file
    11. Link this file to find the N/S & E/W value of the Center of the Revit file
    12. Note the XYZ value in a TXT file
    13. In AutoCAD MAP (or Civil3D), create a reate a SDF file with the center of the Bridge as center of the SDF.
    14. In Infraworks : Export 3D Model in FBX file using SDF file and using Revit Base Point (Beginning of the Bridge)
    15. In Infraworks : Export in IMX file using SDF file
    16. Open the FBX in Navisworks and save to NWD (or NWC)
    17. Open the IMX in AutoCAD Civil3D, clean what is not needed, Set PROXYGRAPHICS to 1, and save DWG (Civil3D)
    18. Link the NWC & DWG in Revit
    19. Create Groupe Selection for Bridge Categories Selection for Filter
    20. Create Shop Drawing Document

Hi Stéphane! Hope you are doing well. I just saw your presentation at the AU and it was really great, learnt the general workflow pretty easily. I just have a question right know... It happens that I am a Revit user, so I was wondering if it is possible to modify the bridge components with the family editor in Revit rather than Inventor? Basically the process you start from 1:40 to 4:20

Thanks for the video sir...its really very helpful...
It will be much more helpful if you kindly provide the detailed notes for the above work.
I would also like to know.. how the MS Project scheduling for the project can be Imparted to this BIM model of bridge for Project monitoring and Updating...(maybe with Navisworks OR preferably in GIS).

Hello Mr. Balmain, Thanks for your workflow it gives me big picture for bridge design and modelling. I have a question, is it possible to create drawing automatically on civil 3D for bridge complete model that fully created in Revit? Thankyou, have a nice day! :)

Whats the benefit of importing both the NWD surface and the CAD surface? or are you illustrating 2 options?

      Hello Jeremy,
The Navisworks NWD surface is exact with color but you can't edit, and it's not a Revit terrain. You get the Infraworks Building only from Navisworks NWD.
Importing a 3d DWG for terrain, you can crete a reel Revit Terrain but it's not exact since Revit recreate the Triangle & doesn't understand Rupture Line but you can't edit. So depending of what you need maybe you will all and display what you need. You can controle the Revit_terrain from DWG is accurate locally
The BEST now in 2019.1 is to link the Civil3D terrain with BIM360 as it will be a reel Revit Terrain, and it's exactly the Civil3D terrain with same triangle & rupture line :
You can see this video about the BIM360 terrain :
