This channel proved a meaningful source for me to understand colonial period under these theoratical frame work. I am ph. D scholar in university of the Punjab Lahore Pakistan. I did my work in m. Phil thesis on working classes in colonial period, so my further interest also is in colonial period. Really helpful and enlightening my mind.
Professor, thank you so much for making videos like this. I'm a first year undergrad student taking "Introduction to Cultural Analysis" and your videos on postcolonialism, Bhabha, academic writing and others are literally a lifesaver. You're amazing, sir! :)
I would like to ask sir if neocolonialism is solely about economic and political influence? or influence of culture (let say pop culture would be a distinct part of it?) Since most Western countries have these cultures (fashion, trend, memes, etc...)left in the internet viewed by lots of people from different nations. Some of them are doing the same thing they saw with Western foreigners regardless their nationality. I wonder if this be included in neocolonialism cause I'm quite confused. Thank you!
Thank you. Colonialism was part cultural part economic and political so if you extrapolate from that you can clearly make your own mind about it. Capital also plays a huge role in the process.
How would Britain's colonisation of Ireland fit into your fantastic explanations as the conquest began in the 1100's and remained into the early 1920's.
Thank you. There are quite a few videos that address it. I do not have any specific books in mind but if you develop a good grasp of the concepts it should not be hard to extrapolate from that. I recommend reading Edward Said’s Orientalism.
I am deciding my research topic for phd. 'Women in the era of Neo - Imperialism' - If you could suggest me some books, articles, research on this, it'd be a great help.
Hey sir. Could you just tell me how the term neo colonialism is defined by Ania Loomba. Also, some neo colonial aspects or policies adopted by Britain after the independence of India. Thanks in advance
Thank you. As I say the post in Postcolonialism does not mean all colonialism is over. Please watch my videos on Postcolonialism. Similarly, varied forms of imperialism still exist. It will all depend on what you decide to agree with as a scholar. There are no single sentence neat definitions or answers.
That's it sir now my concept is clear. You want to say that if one believes that imperialism still there that he or she is supposed to justify it with substantial example..
@@masoodraja oh....thank you sir .. i am actually from Assam, India and doing my masters in english ,and your works are helping me a lot....thank you again..
Thank you very much for the two videos. Mr. Raja, when a colonizing power exploited a country, and hijacked the history of the colonized country and interfered with its religious system by promoting religious liberalism and pluralism, which are incompatible with the systems, thus creating unrest among the people in the long run, does this also involve the work of orientalists too? What does Edward Said say about this. Thank you
I am not sure if Said has anything specific to say about this one thing but if you read his entire work, it would be obvious that Said does not subscribe to any single mode of thinking or religious philosophy. I don’t even think he will agree with any single purist form of knowledge or religion. You might have to go to Bhabha and others to think about hybridity. I also do not believe in any form of purist religious identities and retrievals. So, for me introductions of new ways of thought, without coercion and force, is a good thing.
@@masoodraja Thank you sir. Probably, Edward Said's works should not be approached and viewed with such religious revivalism. I just thought that, to some extents, his methodology has laid a solid foundation for further discourse on how the western scholars studied Islam in particular.
Would you agree with my proposition that colonialism flows from the abolition of slavery. In effect, slavery practised by the collective West [Europe, US, Canada] is still very much alive and flourishing. I use collective West in displacement of Global North [and Global South]. I find this new catch phrase as a decoy to erase whitewash Western horrific historical record of slavery the worst cruelty one human race can inflict on another race due to its imperialistic egoistic mind. I hold the term global north and global south to be political laden. It cannot withstand sound rigorous critical scholarship analysis. Thank you in advance for looking into my submission.
Thank you. To be honest I have not thought much about this so have no refined answer. In my opinion such terms are useful only when used carefully within the given context of our scholarly work.

All respectable postcolonial scholars consider the colonization of Ireland as a significant event and also teach it and learn about it.
Sir, very kindly can please post more videos on neocolonial concept and suggest some good books on it.

Sorry. I have no opinion on that either. I think you can take a look at British history and decide for yourself.

Yes, I agree. I think his method can be useful for many. Also, we need to remember that he was until the end a secular humanist.
