I'm still _positive_ that the reason for Shadow's "am I even real?" angst came from, well, coming out of a pod in Heroes. And I know my memory is foggy but I swear there were Shadow replicants seen in at least a cutscene. So I'm convinced even now that the most likely scenario for "Shadow stays dead" is that we get a fake Shadow not no Shadow. IIRC Battle even takes place before StH, and whether he's a replicant or not gets floated there.
Fun fact for the ones not in the know: Shadow being based on the Mural from 3&K is something never confirmed. It’s just a fan theory that perfectly explains to some extent on why Gerald would go from a giant lizard to a 3 foot 3 inch Hedgehog. (I’m clarifying this as I mentioned this in the last video’s comments, probably on another account, that this was cannon, or that it makes Sonic the true Ultimate Lifeform, but that never was actually confirmed)

When Black Doom recognized Sonic from the mural, I was hoping that would foreshadow to the final battle with Sonic and Black Doom realizing that Sonic might be the true Ultimate Lifeform Gerald tried to create. Man this was an incredible trip! Turning Shadow 05 into a comprehensible and satisfying story is a accomplishment in and of itself, but putting it in an interesting AU, throwing in fun character interactions, and capping it off with the most hype Sonic finale I’ve ever seen? Absolute chef’s kiss. As for side stories, I’d be interested to see how Team Sonic reacts to GUN’s scheming. Given the info Rouge and the Chaotix were digging up, I’m willing to bet that GUN’s monster experiments didn’t stop 50 years ago. Assuming you’re not planning for this to come to a head in another game, seeing Team Sonic have a falling out with GUN over this would make for a great original story.

Not sure if this what if we’ll get this far, but I wonder how shadow’s role in sonic generations could be affected by this what if? This could just be a perfect chaos/classic metal sonic situation where he only appears for a boss fight and then he’s never seen again, but what if he played a big role in generations. Perhaps things play out where shadow escapes into white space after the rival fight? From here I think he could either be an antagonist, since he would still be in his “take revenge on humanity“ phase. Or alternatively, if shadow is pulled from a point in time where he is regained his memory (say for example the Biolizard fight from generations 3DS), he could try to help the heroes fix the timeline, even if that means he hast to willingly go back to his time and accept his fate when everything is set and done. Please don’t feel pressured to do this, I’m just proposing a possibility.

This was a fun video, and a very cool story idea. :> I can’t really think of anything off the top of my head that I would outright change, but it would be neat if there was an additional post-credits cutscene where we got to see Black Doom mulling over his encounter with Chaos, and how it all ties back to the stuff presented later in Frontiers. (The implication I got from this video is that the Black Arms and the Ancients were both dealing with The End as a cosmic-apocalyptic threat, and the Ancients allegedly were eradicated.) And in terms of other stories I’d like to see explored…how about a revisiting of the story from “Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood”? It would be nice to see Shade and her Echidna brethren again.
I imagine every level has two characters, one you play as and one that talks to you (and tags along physically), it would be nice to have several finale levels as Metal Sonic (my bias). I'm sure this could work out gameplay and narrative wise. Keep the countdown to doomsday from SA2 for tension

Fantastic video, no really, this was a blast. I know it's more on the story than it would gameplay since once you get to the ark in this narrative, the concept of it being a game without shadow falls apart unless the final stage was that of metal sonic doing a mad marathon dash which would honestly be really sick if done well. Something that popped into my head whilst watching since you brought up the unknown fact about how chaos was keeping the oceans at bay in unleased is that, that game's story is largely unchanged isn't it? Shadow didn't have a roll in that at all so I don't see why or how anything during unleased would change. Unless maybe the black comet being at the bottom of the ocean ends up breaking up into smaller pieces that would be freed back into space when the contents split from Dark Gaia awakening. Sure the black arms would be much weaker since it would just be the odd stragglers but there's been moments with sunken ship survives having lasted weeks in air pockets so to say the black arms can't return in that moment with what you've set up could be really interesting if fleshed out. Also, since the event's of 06 don't canonically happen, we don't know how much time has passed from when this story and unleased's story take place.

The drawing of the aliens operating the crystal device makes me think of genshin when you see a bunch of hillichurls just like... dancing around an object for no apparent reason. I love it. Just looking at the game footage clips; Shadow has the same eye makeup as my OC Ciavera xD I've always kind of liked Knuckles. I think if I had to pick a favorite Sonic character it would be him. He gives me Zero from megaman energy I think? The space colony looks like Mordecai the blue jay's head to me. I don't know why. I've got it! Cream is the "Unbeatable Squirrel Girl" of Sonic. Also if I can make a suggestion; including a link to the first episode in episode 2's description would make it easier to share both of them around. Actually, in Battle, Shadow is in the game and has full memory of Maria, the Ark, Gerald, etc. This means that Battle has to happen after Shadow the Hedgehog.

It demonstrates precisely how bringing back the Ultimate Lifeform (between Sonic Heroes-present) can be misused, and why Shadow the Hedgehog must stay dead (or) sealed away, never to be found, and never to be used in the wrong hands. Plottwist: Princess Elise and Iblis also don't exist in this canon. 10 years ago in Soleana scientists discovered Gerald's research and recreated artifical Chaos. Project Chaos succesed and humanity now is about to step into golden age. But Mephiles wants to bring down the very concept of it: he wants this glorious success to became the greatest bane of humanity. He is trying to fuse with Chaos, corrupt him and destroy the world, remindning everyone that Chaos was called the god of destruction for a reason. Some people just wanna watch world... flood I guess.
Bringing back Shadow the Ultimate Lifeform (between Sonic Heroes - present) has caused an anomaly for some reason. Including: 1.) The rise of the Black Arms (alien invasion) = Shadow the Hedgehog (2005 video game) 2.) Solaris Project explosion and Day of Disaster (Solaris/Iblis/Mephiles the Dark rampaging) = Sonic 2006 3.) Sticks the Badger paranoia of aliens, governments, whatever treating as dangerous threats = Sonic Boom 4.) Death of the Jackal Squad and the rise of Infinite = Sonic Forces 5.) Sonadow (Sonic and Shadow shipping) 6.) Shadow as an edge lord 7.) And much worse...
Retail ShtH had a theme of allowing one's history to shape them without allowing it to define them. What would you say the central theme is with this rewrite? BTW, I like how you maintained some semblance of Black Doom's motif as a colonizer / corrupt religious leader.
With this rewrite I really wanted to stick with the themes of teamwork that were present in heroes. Team Eggman, sonic, and rose being more solidly showcased here, as well as relying on external forces like GUN and Chaos in order to achieve victory.

I do kind of like the idea of still naming this potential game "Shadow the Hedgehog". Even though he isn't present, this plot still deals with the fallout of his death and the origins of his creation. Great video, I can't wait to see where you go from here!
I had some gripes with the last video and this video which are mostly my own personal issues with the story. (The characters feel too weak or insignificant then they should be which by the end makes them look like a afterthought in my mind), but the ending feels really Contrived and convenient that it bothers me. Doom having the ability to teleport people worked in the original story because we saw him use on shadow at the beginning of the story and throughout the game but since that didn’t happen it looks really Convenient that he can just transport everyone to the black comet with zero difficulty and makes it easier for him to complete his plan and makes the heroes look like they wasted their time going through all this effort when he was going to get the emeralds anyway. It makes it hard to root for the good guys to win if they fail like in the original plot only this time they don’t have shadow with them. The story feels like it wants to do something different from the original plot (having omega and metal sonic team up in sonic heroes then be working for eggman in shadow and having them be like a mirror to team sonic was cool) but then wants to end it the same way only a bit differently. The use of future entries in the series (frontiers) and non canon material rubbed me the wrong way as like with doom’s convenient teleport power, it felt contrived and Situational to the current event that it got annoying. Eggman has a gun in his eggwalker why? Because he had one in the IDW comics silly, even though he has one in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Riders. Neo metal sonic has a super form? Of course he does, he has one in the IDW comics which were made after this game and with a different version of neo metal sonic that only needed sonic and shadows data to become master overlord. Chaos is a Descendent of the ancients how? You gotta play Sonic Frontiers to find out which was released during the making of this video which means what was the plan to beat doom had chaos not been a ancient, would he unable to defeat him without that knowledge from later on in the series. You didn’t need to mention the later material because it adds problems that weren’t mentioned before or doesn’t make sense with this version of the character which hasn’t done that or doesn’t know about it yet, the only exception with this is when chaos shows up to fight doom since sonic battle happens after this game and it doesn’t feel out of place since the stakes were high enough for him to appear in this version of the story. In the sonic heroes video omega is able to resist attacks from team sonic, team rose and team chaotix with not much problem because you said shadow couldn’t hurt him in team darks intro (even though shadow doesn’t actually land a attack on him so we don’t know if that’s true or not) but in this video omega is beaten by Amy on her own after he was weakened with his fight with knuckles. It Makes him look really weak after his debut as a powerful force for Sonic & Co to go up against, it’s funnier because in the IDW comics the zombots who were normal people infected with the metal virus were able to tear apart omega with ease and this was a much stronger omega later on in the series so sonic being unable to do any damage feels kinda inconsistent. Doom Recognises sonic by saying he looks like the hedgehog on the mural but it doesn’t come up in the story then what was the point of mentioning it, sonic doesn’t fight doom and then doom realises that he is the hedgehog from the Prophecy and that he might be the true ultimate life form. It feels like a Foreshadowing for something big that could have been cool that doesn’t get followed up on. With that being said, I do kinda like how some of the story pans out with characters teaming up to try and stop the black arms invasion. Sonic & tails working together to protect the city and collect the chaos emeralds, rouge and knuckles having some nice moments of chemistry with each other while investigating the ruins, Amy & rouge meeting cream and having to work together and chaotix working with a new client to try and stop doom. I like chaos showing up to fight doom but he should have shown up the moment the black comet was on earth and not after it started to drain the planet, like what I said earlier I feel like sonic should’ve had some involvement in the final battle seen he didn’t do much in heroes and didn’t do anything in this version of shadow after the start of the story which is strange considering the name of the series. You can find ways to make other characters more important without making the main character feel like he doesn’t need to be here at all. All in all, I liked the story given here but some things Rely on future events to justify it happening now, but that’s my opinion and if that’s how this series works and wants to do it then I’ll respect it and let it do its own thing this is just how I felt about the what if as a fan of the franchise. If I came across as too harsh on some points that is not intentional and I don’t hate the story or the what if at all, I’d like to see how the story continues after this point and how it develops in it own way.
1:14:19 I've had a similar theory. When the End destroyed the Ancients' planet, it shot a laser that vaporized the equator. Extending that logic, while it wouldn't have been safe for long, the poles would likely have been something of a safe haven. I don't think ALL the Ancients evacuated. Most of those left on the planet were killed, and without the Chaos Emeralds the surviving infrastructure would be worthless. WHAT IF, this was a situation similar to Mondas? Those clinging to life seeking an... Alternative means of survival, and losing much of "themselves" in the process? I think the Black Comet is debris from one of the planet's poles, and the Black Arms are the Ancients' equivalent to the Cybermen, Daleks or Toclafane.
Um actually chaos took the negative energy of the Chao's emerald.s so he turned into perfect Chao's but with the positive energy of the emeralds will result in a different outcome 🤓☝️

This feels like the same kind of "ass pull" as Mephiles teleporting all Chaos Emeralds to himself, except _slightly_ less stupid. I get it, it was easier here because they were all in close proximity, but surely he could've just done this several times on a smaller scale. Don't get me wrong, I *love* the overall story (especially what you've done with Team Eggman), but it's not free of some of the issues that the official Sonic stories have. Oh and I'm not sure how to feel about shoehorning some stuff "just because the original game had them" (although that could be just because of your attitude towards those inclusions; had you not given them special mention, I might've brushed them off). *EDIT:* Even after getting spoiled by the comments, that Perfect Chaos vs Devil Doom fight was, if I may use such a strong word, *_fucking awesome._*

Fantastic video, no really, this was a blast. I know it's more on the story than it would gameplay since once you get to the ark in this narrative, the concept of it being a game without shadow falls apart unless the final stage was that of metal sonic doing a mad marathon dash which would honestly be really sick if done well.
Something that popped into my head whilst watching since you brought up the unknown fact about how chaos was keeping the oceans at bay in unleased is that, that game's story is largely unchanged isn't it? Shadow didn't have a roll in that at all so I don't see why or how anything during unleased would change. Unless maybe the black comet being at the bottom of the ocean ends up breaking up into smaller pieces that would be freed back into space when the contents split from Dark Gaia awakening. Sure the black arms would be much weaker since it would just be the odd stragglers but there's been moments with sunken ship survives having lasted weeks in air pockets so to say the black arms can't return in that moment with what you've set up could be really interesting if fleshed out. Also, since the event's of 06 don't canonically happen, we don't know how much time has passed from when this story and unleased's story take place.

The drawing of the aliens operating the crystal device makes me think of genshin when you see a bunch of hillichurls just like... dancing around an object for no apparent reason. I love it. Just looking at the game footage clips; Shadow has the same eye makeup as my OC Ciavera xD
I've always kind of liked Knuckles. I think if I had to pick a favorite Sonic character it would be him. He gives me Zero from megaman energy I think? The space colony looks like Mordecai the blue jay's head to me. I don't know why.

Actually, in Battle, Shadow is in the game and has full memory of Maria, the Ark, Gerald, etc. This means that Battle has to happen after Shadow the Hedgehog.

Princess Elise and Iblis also don't exist in this canon. 10 years ago in Soleana scientists discovered Gerald's research and recreated artifical Chaos. Project Chaos succesed and humanity now is about to step into golden age. But Mephiles wants to bring down the very concept of it: he wants this glorious success to became the greatest bane of humanity. He is trying to fuse with Chaos, corrupt him and destroy the world, remindning everyone that Chaos was called the god of destruction for a reason. Some people just wanna watch world... flood I guess.
Bringing back Shadow the Ultimate Lifeform (between Sonic Heroes - present) has caused an anomaly for some reason. Including:
1.) The rise of the Black Arms (alien invasion) = Shadow the Hedgehog (2005 video game)
2.) Solaris Project explosion and Day of Disaster (Solaris/Iblis/Mephiles the Dark rampaging) = Sonic 2006
3.) Sticks the Badger paranoia of aliens, governments, whatever treating as dangerous threats = Sonic Boom
4.) Death of the Jackal Squad and the rise of Infinite = Sonic Forces
5.) Sonadow (Sonic and Shadow shipping)
6.) Shadow as an edge lord
7.) And much worse...

BTW, I like how you maintained some semblance of Black Doom's motif as a colonizer / corrupt religious leader.
With this rewrite I really wanted to stick with the themes of teamwork that were present in heroes.
Team Eggman, sonic, and rose being more solidly showcased here, as well as relying on external forces like GUN and Chaos in order to achieve victory.

I do kind of like the idea of still naming this potential game "Shadow the Hedgehog". Even though he isn't present, this plot still deals with the fallout of his death and the origins of his creation. Great video, I can't wait to see where you go from here!

I had some gripes with the last video and this video which are mostly my own personal issues with the story. (The characters feel too weak or insignificant then they should be which by the end makes them look like a afterthought in my mind), but the ending feels really Contrived and convenient that it bothers me.
Doom having the ability to teleport people worked in the original story because we saw him use on shadow at the beginning of the story and throughout the game but since that didn’t happen it looks really Convenient that he can just transport everyone to the black comet with zero difficulty and makes it easier for him to complete his plan and makes the heroes look like they wasted their time going through all this effort when he was going to get the emeralds anyway. It makes it hard to root for the good guys to win if they fail like in the original plot only this time they don’t have shadow with them. The story feels like it wants to do something different from the original plot (having omega and metal sonic team up in sonic heroes then be working for eggman in shadow and having them be like a mirror to team sonic was cool) but then wants to end it the same way only a bit differently.
The use of future entries in the series (frontiers) and non canon material rubbed me the wrong way as like with doom’s convenient teleport power, it felt contrived and Situational to the current event that it got annoying. Eggman has a gun in his eggwalker why? Because he had one in the IDW comics silly, even though he has one in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Riders. Neo metal sonic has a super form? Of course he does, he has one in the IDW comics which were made after this game and with a different version of neo metal sonic that only needed sonic and shadows data to become master overlord. Chaos is a Descendent of the ancients how? You gotta play Sonic Frontiers to find out which was released during the making of this video which means what was the plan to beat doom had chaos not been a ancient, would he unable to defeat him without that knowledge from later on in the series. You didn’t need to mention the later material because it adds problems that weren’t mentioned before or doesn’t make sense with this version of the character which hasn’t done that or doesn’t know about it yet, the only exception with this is when chaos shows up to fight doom since sonic battle happens after this game and it doesn’t feel out of place since the stakes were high enough for him to appear in this version of the story.
In the sonic heroes video omega is able to resist attacks from team sonic, team rose and team chaotix with not much problem because you said shadow couldn’t hurt him in team darks intro (even though shadow doesn’t actually land a attack on him so we don’t know if that’s true or not) but in this video omega is beaten by Amy on her own after he was weakened with his fight with knuckles. It Makes him look really weak after his debut as a powerful force for Sonic & Co to go up against, it’s funnier because in the IDW comics the zombots who were normal people infected with the metal virus were able to tear apart omega with ease and this was a much stronger omega later on in the series so sonic being unable to do any damage feels kinda inconsistent. Doom Recognises sonic by saying he looks like the hedgehog on the mural but it doesn’t come up in the story then what was the point of mentioning it, sonic doesn’t fight doom and then doom realises that he is the hedgehog from the Prophecy and that he might be the true ultimate life form. It feels like a Foreshadowing for something big that could have been cool that doesn’t get followed up on.
With that being said, I do kinda like how some of the story pans out with characters teaming up to try and stop the black arms invasion. Sonic & tails working together to protect the city and collect the chaos emeralds, rouge and knuckles having some nice moments of chemistry with each other while investigating the ruins, Amy & rouge meeting cream and having to work together and chaotix working with a new client to try and stop doom. I like chaos showing up to fight doom but he should have shown up the moment the black comet was on earth and not after it started to drain the planet, like what I said earlier I feel like sonic should’ve had some involvement in the final battle seen he didn’t do much in heroes and didn’t do anything in this version of shadow after the start of the story which is strange considering the name of the series. You can find ways to make other characters more important without making the main character feel like he doesn’t need to be here at all. All in all, I liked the story given here but some things Rely on future events to justify it happening now, but that’s my opinion and if that’s how this series works and wants to do it then I’ll respect it and let it do its own thing this is just how I felt about the what if as a fan of the franchise. If I came across as too harsh on some points that is not intentional and I don’t hate the story or the what if at all, I’d like to see how the story continues after this point and how it develops in it own way.

1:14:19 I've had a similar theory. When the End destroyed the Ancients' planet, it shot a laser that vaporized the equator. Extending that logic, while it wouldn't have been safe for long, the poles would likely have been something of a safe haven.
I don't think ALL the Ancients evacuated. Most of those left on the planet were killed, and without the Chaos Emeralds the surviving infrastructure would be worthless.
WHAT IF, this was a situation similar to Mondas? Those clinging to life seeking an... Alternative means of survival, and losing much of "themselves" in the process?
I think the Black Comet is debris from one of the planet's poles, and the Black Arms are the Ancients' equivalent to the Cybermen, Daleks or Toclafane.
An interesting theory for sure.

Um actually chaos took the negative energy of the Chao's emerald.s so he turned into perfect Chao's but with the positive energy of the emeralds will result in a different outcome 🤓☝️

...then why didn't he do that earlier? This feels like the same kind of "ass pull" as Mephiles teleporting all Chaos Emeralds to himself, except _slightly_ less stupid. I get it, it was easier here because they were all in close proximity, but surely he could've just done this several times on a smaller scale.
Don't get me wrong, I *love* the overall story (especially what you've done with Team Eggman), but it's not free of some of the issues that the official Sonic stories have. Oh and I'm not sure how to feel about shoehorning some stuff "just because the original game had them" (although that could be just because of your attitude towards those inclusions; had you not given them special mention, I might've brushed them off).
