  • In this video I'll update you on the progress of the V4 2 Stroke motor build, I'll cover some considerations and the situation when it comes to casting this.
    This was designed by me in fusion 360 and the patterns were made at home on my CNC mill. I plan to lost foam cast these in aluminium and have them heat treated to T6.

    Dont know if you did any wax work on your VTwin, but very low melt point is you best bet. Do you have fillet tools and scrapers? Best to practice on some scrap. Some people have better luck with the wax seal rings for toilets. It's very soft at room temp. You can also alloy your own wax and make a simple extruder to extrude rope of the desired diameter. A warmed ball tool will melt it into the filleted shape. You may already have crossed this bridge but if not give me a shout on the casting forum. Best, Kelly

    This is very cool, amazing to watch the process on youtube by a home builder! I was thinking there have been quite a few "V4" twostroke builds in recent times that mimic the Yamaha, Suzuki late 500cc models, No one has made a true V4 design to mimic the Honda 500's. I think there is an opportunity there as the NSR replica's with RG, NS motors would be more awesome with the right motor. I think on Facebook there is an Aussi guy currently working on doing just this, could be an opportunity to collaborate! ;)

      Thank you, pass on a link to his page if you can.
      The main reason for using a twin crank is off the shelf parts which will be available for a long while can be modified to work. An nsr style would require custom cranks which would cost a lot to make and mean you’re making a lot of spare parts to keep the bike running.
      Using NSR 250 crank parts might be an option, although those parts aren’t cheap and won’t be around for very long.

    Not sure exactly how your firing order plans go. Will two cylinders be communicating inside the case or will you use crank seals between each rod? I say this because regular seals usually won't be enough because they only work in one direction. Old merc in line 4s used labyrinth seals that are a very slick idea and keep lube flowing also.

    • @OddsandEndsMachining
      @OddsandEndsMachining  5 месяцев назад +1

      The bike up will fire the upper cylinders together, the lower will be the same. It will use 2 crankshafts, none of the crankcase sections will communicate with one another. I’ll do a video explaining the set up better.

    What cylinders are you intending on using? Why twin crank instead of single, also why not counter-rotating twin crank? Firing order? Cylinder reed, case reed, or piston port?

    • @OddsandEndsMachining
      @OddsandEndsMachining  5 месяцев назад

      I should do a recap video once the casting is done, but here you go.
      -Yz85 cylinders for the prototype but YZ112 for the final product. (Really only a 450)
      -This uses standard Yamaha cranks. . . Cheap and fast to maintain/get spares for.
      -Contra rotating on a standard YZ85 crank with a 20mm shaft would create a very weak point, using an intermediate shaft allows each crank to see very reasonable loading.
      -it will fire in pairs like a 90 degree v twin for good balance and drive ability.
      -case reed as per the YZ85

      -timing is undecided but it will probably end up somewhere around 196-198+ on the exhaust and 130ish on the transfers.
      -I’ll design and make the pipes, the beauty of the high rpm is that I can make them quite short and easy to package. Due to the lack of power valve I will probably add an ATAC style chamber to boost the low end power, but obviously the plan is to build off a stock YZ85 and develop it slowly.
