It's no joke that this is my game of the year. Streets of Rage was my favorite Genesis game, and wanted a worthy sequel to part 3 for years. Never expected it after waiting over 20 years. Finally saw the announcement for part 4, and I was very underwhelmed... Then it came out. This game killed every expectation and doubt I had! It FEELS right. It SOUNDS right. It PLAYS right. Streets of Rage 4 is the biggest success of the decade!
Man I always end up dying in the Y Island Hallway, I REALLY appreciate this! I tend to get hot-headed and play too aggressive when I get hit often. I need classes at Shiva's dojo.

You have to fight strategically with Axel since he does not have speed. I switch between Axel and Blaze, my two favs. I like Adam for being well balanced.

I grew up on the SOR1 and 3 (never got to finish #2, but tried it out). And this one has been pissing me off. I miss the vertical role that was in #3. And every time I hit a wall on hard mode, I realize the tricks through videos like this. When you said "and don't forget you can catch the bottles/weapons in mid-air" I was heated lol. Kinda wish they demonstrated that in-game. I tried picking up Estel's grenades and it wasn't working so I just bailed on that theory all-around. Thanks for the tips though.
and today i learn u can grab thrown beakers~ I have more trouble with the Fatman Guantlet than the first hallway of Y island more the rolling bastard than anything.
Thanks for this, those Z guys have caused me no end of headaches. I think you really have to approaching each enemy differently compared to other sor games.
Fun trick I've found while riding the elevator up to the Max fight: break the window walls on either side of the elevator, then launch your foes of the side using strong/charge attacks. This works really well against Big Bens and the karate masters who love to counter. Though for the later of the two, a quick backwards throw works well too and will probably be preferable to to trying to charge attacks. Just be careful, they can and will break out quickly if you don't act quick enough.
Same. He just has no tools, no real advantages over the rest of the cast. Adam has everything. Floyd has damage. Blaze has great combos. Even SoR3 Axel has an invincible offensive super. Axel in this game is slow, weak, and he doesn't have good combos. He needs something to be able to compete.
Best strategy for old pier Murphy's is to throw a weapon towards them before the screen moves to show them. If done correctly it disarms both Murphy's and one Barney.
The weapon in the dojo is not a spear. It is a traditional slashing weapon from ancient China used by a legendary general. The pronunciation is Guan Dao (Dao is a slashing weapon unique to China, and Guan is the last name of that general). Hope this helps, great work!
I went from "fuck this game" to completing the entire thing as a SOR1 character yesterday - my biggest challenge so far. I can say that without special moves, the most difficult parts we Estel (especially 1st encounter), multiple fatties at Y Island castle, Ms Y and the final boss fight. At one point I even thought that I'm not gonna win the final fight, but thankfully star move wrecked the mech

This game is hands down one my favorite games of all time but geez it is tough! Anyway, I’m still struggling with ONE section of the game. The freaking Y tower on mania (the part where the floor is wet). I’ve never passed this section without losing a life! (On mania of course). It’s not only hard to control your character, but also, dealing with the Sagat wannabes is a hellish experience. Once the kickboxing dudes with the red and blue shorts start coming, I get destroyed! Suggestions are highly appreciated and welcomed!
The game needs Y button moves to always override whatever attack you're in the middle of, and to break you out of combos like they used to. No Idea why that was changed for the worse. Now you have to just put your controller down if Sheva hits you, and wait for the combo to finish. Also the standing still y moves wouldn't reduce life if you didn't hit anything, which made it so you could use their invincibility to dodge thrown weapons and whip attacks if you had good timing- bring that back

Tip: you can re use the taser against shielded police. Two hits with that should disable shield, then you drop it and re use it for the next shielded cop.
There are sections that are hard and _feel_ cheap, but that's the beautiful challenge like old games. You will fail, but you try again until you master it.
Number 1 change that needs to happen: GIVE EVERYONE A GODDAMN SPRINT! You can't introduce that shit in the last game of the series and not have it in the sequel to that. What, did Axel and Blaze just FORGET that they knew how to run?? Get outta here, man. Even if they don't get back the dodge rolling from SoR3, they need to give the whole cast of 4 a sprint.
I've already platinumed and play on mania but always like looking at tips and different strategies from other players. One thing I dont use nearly enough is the charged hard attack. And charging during a grab is a brilliant idea, thanks for that. I also have to agree with Axel being the weakest character and honestly its a bit annoying as he was one of my favorite characters in the classic series. All they'd need to do really is give him a run or dash option and it would make him much more versatile. And I've been trying to figure out for the life of me why the updated variants of Axel and Blaze don't have a run or dash option. They are both incredibly slow, to slow tbh, ever try playing as Axel and someone else is cherry? The person will have to wait for you to catch up. Floyd I can completely understand not having a dash option. But the others make no sense, especially considering cherry n adam have a dash and the sor3 variants of blaze n axel have a run. mind boggling. As far as changes to the game attack collision needs to be addressed big time because it is nonsense at times. And what I mean for example, if i'm flying into an enemy with a flaming knee attack from cherry, that should not be cancelled out by a lesser weak attack like a lil jab, headbutt or slap from those jumpkick chicks. My attack should go right through that, it's only fair and right. Especially considering enemies are given every advantage under the sun. I also think the 2 second invincibility some enemies get after you knock them down and get back up needs to be taken out. Enemies have far to many silly advantages like that

I've cleared the game in mania but I'm having serious trouble ranking S in the old pier in hard difficulty. I think the only way is getting the maximum combo from the beginning until the armed Donovan, Galsias and Diamonds attack before the cops show up. I mainly play with SOR1 Blaze since I like her regular combo and strenght but she doesn't have a defense move for the Diamonds jumpkick that could be handy. My question is...do you think it's possible to rank S using SOR1 Blaze? My brother helps me sometimes and he mainly plays as Adam (SOR4 or 1) and we usually finish with two life's and two stars, total score of 20.000-21.000pts. I've reached 23.000 or so just by adding score trying to keep no damage and taking health items with a full life bar, but I genuinely think we have to get all possible combos. Ultimately, does anyone know how much points are needed to rank S for this phase in difficult mode?
9:13 in the hallway my main problem are the Y signal floor kicks. I just punch the Donovans and disarm the Galsias (I play as SoR1 Blaze who can kick at a longer distance and that cam make me somewhat invincible if I stay on control and play wisely, so I use that to grab those Donovan and whoever enemy I can and the use the chandelier to get rid of a herd of enemies. Maybe this is useful to other ones. EDIT: Also, for Koobo and the Z's, you wanna disarm Kooboo and then use that spike ball to Knock defeat him and the Z's. Then grab the newest possible to keep it until the hall where the Big Ben are since this is very useful with them. I'd appreciate more tips to defeat the different kinds of Big Ben in that hallway too
Great video man, but I wish you had covered the part on stage 10 I think it is where you fight the 3 or 4 biker chics with those hippy bitches throwing grenades at you. I'm stuck there on Hard difficulty. Any tips?
You can pick up grenades and throw them at the bikers. Killing the Bikers will get the grenaders to drop down and stop spamming them as much. You can also use your special there as it is the hardest part of the stage..
Regarding stage 11: if you're trying to max your score, you kind of need to fight the Dunphy enemies while keeping the Anne's alive, so you don't lose your combo with nothing to hit. Anne, unlike Veronica, can't throw her electricity bottle in more than a straight line. If she's significantly higher or lower than you, just leave her be. She'll help down the shields of the cops a lot of the time. It's definitely not the SAFEST route, but trying for high score is never gonna be safe.
There is another section that was hard for me and it was when you had to fight that Goro enemy in Chinatown, I don't know any strategies to defeat them
Adam is the overall guy equipped with tons of tools. Axel is Mr.Basic strong powerful simple moveset yet punishable and slow. SOR3 Axel though is a beast!
Ikr? I generally consider SOR1-3 characters to be expert mode, but SOR3 Axel seems better than SOR4 Axel, mainly thanks to the sprint and his OTG dash attack (uppercut)
Changes I wanna see: make all characters able to run/dash, remove armor from enemies, encourage star-move usage (or at last don't discourage it) during end-round score calculation.
Been playing this game since it came out and I don't care what anyone says, those Hard S ranks are just impossible from stage 3 onwards. The best it gives me is A, no matter how well I do.
I played 11 stages in 1 day. It’s been 2 days I’m stuck at stage 12. The super massive D head plus the punk combo is so hard to pass and have enough life for the boss.
Yo man I m not an expert but the only way I know to don't be raped, it's to jump in the same time to them for dodge they jump 3 times, and ulti when super Donovan spawn and prey they fall at the same place and try to make them don't stand up
To anyone who wants to play Axel right now, I recommend the SOR3 version of the character. Vastly superior to the SOR4 version. Otherwise Adam and Blaze are probably the two best SoR4 characters to play as at the moment.
There is food in the motorcycles. Get to right side of the screen quickly in the beginning, corner your back to the lower right, keep all your health, and move when the healing items run out. Jump + Down Air as they pass.
Don't you just hate those Donovans that are sort of invincible...also, I always try to leep no damage and eat immediately the food with the full bar so I can add up score to have more lifes. Ahre there tips to defeat the Big Bens in the castle? Or Ms. Y?

As far as crowd control goes, Axel is brilliant. His headbutt sends em all flying like skittles.

Tazer cops need a wind-up animation before zipping toward you instantly, and garnet's jump kicks shouldn't home in on you.

i find that annoying as well, the green life stacks too fast too... i guess they dont want you to exploit it.

Careful as sadistically, they made enemy's weapons able to anti-air the player so if you're not close enough, they might immediately retaliate.

Worst ones are Sparrows, Candy, weapon throw Donovans, Ninja Murphys, and army of Bongos.

Thank you to your videos for introducing me to Super Massive Dickhead and Active Frames God, the true names of the hardest enemies in this game.
There is another section that was hard for me and it was when you had to fight that Goro enemy in Chinatown, I don't know any strategies to defeat them
I usually try to just bait him and then grab him over and over and try not puch or kick him at all

if you want a real challenge, just don't play as Adam or Cherry that's all there is :)

They have updated it a couple times already, like adding voices for a few characters, maybe we will see some more changes soon.
Adam is the overall guy equipped with tons of tools. Axel is Mr.Basic strong powerful simple moveset yet punishable and slow. SOR3 Axel though is a beast!

Ikr? I generally consider SOR1-3 characters to be expert mode, but SOR3 Axel seems better than SOR4 Axel, mainly thanks to the sprint and his OTG dash attack (uppercut)

Changes I wanna see:
make all characters able to run/dash, remove armor from enemies, encourage star-move usage (or at last don't discourage it) during end-round score calculation.

1:42 was the key word: PUZZLE! I do see many errors in the game, though. Character macro / programming / AI / algorithm’s misbehave and ruin your day.

Been playing this game since it came out and I don't care what anyone says, those Hard S ranks are just impossible from stage 3 onwards. The best it gives me is A, no matter how well I do.

Yo man I m not an expert but the only way I know to don't be raped, it's to jump in the same time to them for dodge they jump 3 times, and ulti when super Donovan spawn and prey they fall at the same place and try to make them don't stand up

To anyone who wants to play Axel right now, I recommend the SOR3 version of the character. Vastly superior to the SOR4 version. Otherwise Adam and Blaze are probably the two best SoR4 characters to play as at the moment.

There is food in the motorcycles. Get to right side of the screen quickly in the beginning, corner your back to the lower right, keep all your health, and move when the healing items run out. Jump + Down Air as they pass.

Don't you just hate those Donovans that are sort of invincible...also, I always try to leep no damage and eat immediately the food with the full bar so I can add up score to have more lifes. Ahre there tips to defeat the Big Bens in the castle? Or Ms. Y?
