She was being real, she grew up. Everyone does sooner or later. The whole tomboy, skater girl, punk, skateboarding, spikes on her wrists (sometimes), tie wearing thing wasn't going to last forever. She matured and became a bit more feminine and girly as a result. Doesn't mean that at either point in her career or life that she was faking it and wasn't happy.
You think she wasn't being herself? For goodness sakes, she had just started out. She needed to find her comfort zone in such a radical shift in her life. That does not mean that she was being fake
She was quite more herself in Let Go and Under My Skin, that excuse of "finding herself" or "growing up" is enough! People do change, but don't become the opposite in a short period of time
